Not boring, it's just they tend to forget what they're talking about halfway through a sentence. The definition of boring is listening to some coke-addled halfwit chuntering on and on about f*ck all.

Just having the odd one is the ultimate sucker trap as has been been countless times with all the drugs including alcohol and tobacco.
The experts say that it takes very little cannabis, especially the modern versions such as skunk which is so strong, to serously and permanently damage the brain!
Is that really worth it when you think of the problems you are saving up for later life? Brief moments of what you might think of as joy etc. can never make a shortened and rotten life overall worthwhile.

I used to dabble in it - but nothing major - i beleived in trying anything twice!!
Now I'm older and live with someone who suffers from panic attacks and anxiety which i feel was brought about possibly by the effects of drugs!
On an every day scale - it WILL do some kind of lasting damage, be in paranoia and forgetfulness or something more serious.
As for the lagalities - I don't think there is anyone out there who thinks "I'm not gonna try to smoke a spliff - its illegal", I'm sure my kids will try it - as I beleive most people do - Its the other stuff out there that scares the heebbie jeebies outta me

I see little problem in having the odd bit of weed, but I think the issue is that some peeps seem to think that it is totally harmless. It isn't. Just like alcohol, use it to excess and you'll run into difficulties !

Each to their own I say, I'm not here to argue the point for or against, I enjoy one every now and then, not much of a drinker these days, and would rather have a J than a skinful and spend most of the next day recovering from a hangover. Just dont have a skinfull and then have a J otherwise you'll have a big ol whitey.
I have never seen anyone violent on a J, but have seen plenty of normal mild mannered people turn into total ***** on beer, mouthy violent etc.
To be fair the "skunk" on the street is just like cheap plonk, it's crap.
I work with 20 guys, 4 of which I know are alchoholics, all of whoms live's are f*cked, lost houses, wives, kids, one is very aggressive and the red mist comes down very quickly, another has had mental and health issues from doing a litre of scotch a day etc etc of all the people I know who smoke none are "F*cked" and all lead normal lives.
I'm not making a case for puff over booze I'm not naive enough to think it's not harmless and yes it will harm a certain percentage of users, just as solvents, booze, **** will, I am also aware it's illegal and the reasons why it became illegal in the 1st place, to placate the opium dealers who had just seen their drug being banned europe wide at the start of the last century, so wanted to see weed and hemop dealers face the same sanctions.
lol aint that the truth, a bit of Tiger Woods and a fat one, we always felt we had our "eye in" when stoned, bloody crap at the game sober.
With regards to the Dutch, I have always wondered where do they get theirs from ?? as it's legal I imagine it is government controlled surely they have bought the seeds from "abroad" and then grow their own under strict guidelines at a very secure facility no doubt.
I reckon there are a lot more people who smoke weed on SN but choose not to advertise the fact for fear of being ostracized by fellow members and having their cred flushed down the toilet.
Anyone ever seen Weeds

I saw it as an alternative to having a beer whilst relaxing, and playing golf on the Ps2

Something, that offers you less controllable false state of mind, can't be good IMO. Scientifically too, long term use of marijuana is damaging to brain. It may be better than smoking tobacco, but it doesn't justify the use of marijuana, IMO.
I have seen people wrecking their lives due to marijuana addiction, just like alcoholics do for alcohol. Medicinal use of marijuana is justified, but recreational indulgance can lead one to unfair addiction.

I doubt its better than tobacco Turbohot, its the **** they put in cigarettes to make them burn better that makes em a bit more damaging.
I know a few people who have been smoking handrolled cigs everyday over the course of 40 years, and have no problems whatsoever with their health.
Now you try and smoke a couple of joints every day for 20 years. I dont even think that those two things are comparable, as weed completely changes your perception while cigs dont affect the psyche that much.
The only thing that it should be compared to imho is the alchohol, and i agree with Funkii Munkii, that if you abuse alchohol can have just as bad or even worse effect than abusing weed. But with alchohol you at least know that you have had too much, and start barfing up and feel like **** the next morning, which does prevent some people from drinking for at least a few days.
With weed, you can pretty much smoke as much as you like without feeling sick which creates this illusion of it being harmless and it does not give a guidance of how much is actually too much? So it sucks people in and before you know it, you are dumb as **** and have major psychological problems.
The idea is to enjoy everything in moderation, as even if you eat a harmless substance like chocolate everyday in huge ammounts you can become obese or die of diabetes.

My cannabis using patients that are having mental health, relationship or work problems seem to be in denial about the role of cannabis in their problems. Just like alcoholics seem to almost universally lie about their consumption (a recognised characteristic), it strikes me (anecdotally) that cannabis users have a similar problem with denial re its effects on them. Many seem to be intellectually dulled from their potential, dysfunctional in their relationships and completely lacking drive or ambition. It is a thrilling part of my job to challenge my young, fit, male patients back towards employment instead of being on benefits to then be confronted with them telling me it is OK for me because I'm privileged (when I grew up in an impoverished single parent family, was state educated, took on debt to study, never smoked, never took drugs, never got drunk and worked my *** off to pull myself out of an otherwise potentially **** life) or that they "don't believe in the concept of work".
Perhaps I attribute too much of this to cannabis, perhaps it is effect rather than cause, but ambitionless loser and cannabis are joined in my mind from experience of dealing with these people and their problems, not from prejudice. Of course I don't see the considerable number who are taking cannabis and not presenting with problems, so again I may be biased.

I think you are right john banks, i have 2 friends who have become absolutely useless after smoking weed for 3 months, you cannot ask them to do anything as they will certainly not do it.
But its definatelly a good thing, as with most drugs - the more useless people there are in life, the more goes to hardworking people. Of course then those hardworking people will have to pay more taxes to support those useless bums, but its better than having to face competition from every single person on the planet. You might think that its cruel, but we are not exactly living in the fairy land are we.

Used to smoke it all the time, but started flying to Japan on a regular basis about once every three months and go really paranoid. especially when I got pulled at Kansai airport as I smelt really funny after a stop over in Amsterdam.
When I moved to Japan in 97 I stopped dead as its pretty difficult to get it in Japan, the law is tougher than here and if caught i'd have been deported. Since coming back to the Uk i've not bothered apart from the odd weekend in Amsterdam.
Would I condone its use, No! I'd rather everyone was smoking weed than drinking alcohol.

Just thought I would add this to the mix - e.Peak (31/10/2005) news: science: Study shows marijuana increases brain cell growth
"Supporters of marijuana may finally have an excuse to smoke weed every day. A recent study in the Journal of Clinical Investigation suggests that smoking pot can make the brain grow."

When you have grown up, and you are suffering all those incurable problems, then you can tell me if I am still stupid. Thats if your brain is still lucid enough of course!

If I did not believe it, not only from expert advice, but what I have seen happen to other people during my life, I would not bother to say it.

Don't do it!
I smoked regularly and quite heavily for about 10 years. I had some funny times, but overall it just makes you a boring person. It significantly reduces your motivation and drive and I dread to think of all the opportunites I miised out on because all I wanted to do was sit in and play on my playstation giggling with a friend.
It's a stupid drug that should be avoided.

That's a far cry from "If you smoke cannibis/skunj etc you will damage your brain"
The realitiy is that for 99% of people (i.e. those not disposed to schizophrenia) people can smoke canninbis with no ill effects at all.
I find it absolutely staggering that cannibis can be demonised when we freely seel alcohol and tobacco - Both of which are scientifically proven to be far, far more dangerous and far bigger killers.
Then sensible thing to do would be to legalise cannibis, thus improving the supply, able to regulate against inferior/dangerous product, and giving tax revenue to the government. But stuffy Middle England would never vote for it.

To be fair Les, what the experts actually say is that if you predisposed to schizophrenia, then the use of Cannibis, may increase your chances of having a psychotic episode by up to 50%.
