Spotted a few Audi's driving with just side lights and fog lights on.
Its almost like the manufactures are designing these front lights to look good rather than work well now. Started with Angel/halo lights on the BMWs, to These funny bright LED strips on the Audis.

On the French M8 home last night. One car with rear fogs on (Jag) and one pug estate with sidelights and front fogs.
Plenty of other cars but i didn't know if they were fogs or driving lamps.

Actually, the opposite is true. The more power you're drawing from the electrics (esp rear heated screen/heater/wipers etc) the more work the engine has to do= less power to drive the wheels= less performance..!![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Same is true of AC compressor, which most are already aware of.
Try this little experiment:
With the bonnet up and engine idling, turn on heated screen or main beam and slightly blip accelerator. Listen to the whine from the alternator. Now turn all elecs off and repeat...

I got pulled back in the early 90s in my Astra GTE. At the time is was cool to drive with side lights and front fogs on - my front fogs were painted yellow too ![Lol1](images/smilies/lol1.gif)
Copper explained it was illegal unless foggy and sent me on my way.
The fashion must be back!

My understanding is that 'foglights' should only be used when visability is SERIOUSLY reduced, now obviously that applies when its foggy, but I have occasionally used my front fogs when there is heavy rain and spray on the motorway, purely because using the headlights just illuminates the spray and wash infront of the car.
Visability is often less in this case than the usual foggy morning. In this case I've used just fogs, rather than headlights AND fogs, just to ensure that vehicles infront can see I'm there, but aren't dazzelled by the combination of HIDs and spray.

I think the sidelights on my blob are a bit..... puney? If I'm on a motorway / dual carridgeway I'll use sides with fogs IF it's not dark enough to warant headlights. When I turn the headlights on the fogs go off.
BTW I aint a chav, I own books, even a bookcase!

Yeh, you ever been in a traffic queue and had a HGV behind you with a loose light fitting or bumper causing the light to flicker on tickover. I hate those dazzling besteds!

the best thing is when it is foggy they dont have the 'kin lights on!!
some fogs are really bright and do dazzle, some cars the fogs are the same as the normal lights.
Ive got a feeling some people put them on because its probably the best feature on their **** excuse for a car.

I really don’t see the issue with front fogs, all the comments about needing eye tests then I think you need to look at your own issues as I have never been effected by fog lights . Maybe you drive like a granddad and therefore visibility is not such an issue but as I drive at the top end of the speed limits and really enjoy using my car potential I like the added visibility that they give….. Being that so many of you say that you notice fogs then you must admit that it makes your car more visible….
And the issue of power ????? Come on if your worried about losing 5bhp then you really need to look into tuning your car I can provide useful links if needed …..
Just my point that’s all
