Azimuthal velocity profiles were measured in steady flow using laser Doppler velocimetry. The addition of polymer significantly decreases the size of a counter-rotating eddy that forms adjacent to the stationary wall in the large gap region. Film thickness in a dynamically loaded journal bearing was also measured using eddy current probes. Viscoelasticity associated with polymer additives did not influence minimum film thickness or attitude angle under loading conditions characteristic of an engine cycle. Results in both steady and unsteady flows are at least quanlitatively consistent with predictions of the upper convected Maxwell model.

Just as well really

Christ, all I want to know is what oil is recommended for my 2001 WRX.

And now for something completely different.....

FFS! LOL, i aint seen one of these threads for ages
I love it. Stick some 15w 50 in it and be done with it. If RCM say so, then thats good enough for me! Hahaha.
Of course that is my car and i drive like the almost 40 years old i am!
Although, i do seem to have developed a heavy right foot this past fortnight

Why would you put 15w-50 in it if it's a standard road car? The handbook says 5w-30 or 5w-40, 10w-40 I believe? Heavily modded sure 10w-50 or 15w-50 but otherwise.....

Not heavily modded, but if you check 'My Garage' it is modified to some extent.
That lists all my mods oilman. I have never had anyone service my car that has used anything less than 10w 50. BUT, it has always been modded from an early age.
And another BUT, when it was a standard car it did just get the Shell Helix oil in it
(Oh, and thanks for the Easter price offer! I got some more in the garage now)

Ah bollocks. Im going to stick with what I have used the last 5 years, Halfords semi synthetic 10W 40 for 19.99. Never had any issues with my previous car 306gti-6 which never missed a beat.

Your car is pretty tweaked, and it's on the verge of wanting a 10w-50, but that's then down to what you do with the car. If it's tracked, go for a 10w-50, for normal use a good fully synthetic oil will be fine

Mine's been filled with Miller's 10w-60 CFS.....

50% increase in bhp, and some track use, after Mobil 1 the hot idle pressure is nearly double, never seen over 98 degrees oil temp.

Maybe 10w-40 next time ?

A 60 is a bit thick at 100degC, in fact around 24cst when the required is 14cst so about 70% too thick.

A 40 would be better

Car Bibles : The Engine Oil Bible

I was going to get 0w-30 ( no good in my 96 sti import ) until i read the above , it gets quite technical , but i realised 10w-40 would be the way to go.

.....longest post ive seen so far on here.........

Si2000, you have a pm, but the oils you've mentioned are fine, perhaps Pro S 10w-50 or Millers CFS 10w-50 would give better cold start protection, but no need to worry about it too much

It's ok, but not great. A 5w-40 synthetic would be better, just give it time to warm up and change the oil fairly regularly

A 5w-40 would be better, but try the 0w-40. You may get a bit of piston slap, but it's not the end of the world. Alternatively, sell the Castrol on Ebay and get a better oil

A 5w-40 or 5w-30 is more suitable, a 10w-50 if modified and tracked.
