Changing the speedo from Km to Miles on JDM
#31
I don't mind paying US$400 for a 260 km/h speedo - where have you seen them? And what's the modification I need to make to the plug?
Here's a YouTube link with my Spec C in it:
YouTube - Zero to Sixty in 3.8 seconds: Subaru STI Spec C
It's hitting 60 at the top of second, at about 8200 RPM (you have to love those JDM 2 litre motors). The downside is that it gives me about 18 mpg around town now. Far less on the track and strip.

Anyway, I find these on Yahoo Japan auctions. Haven't seen one for a while, but by coincidence one appears today. Yahoo!¥ª¡¼¥¯¥·¥ç¥ó - ̤»ÈÍÑ¥¤¥ó¥×¥ì¥Ã¥µWRXSTIGDB£Ç·¿¥Õ¥ë¥¹¥±¡¼¥ë260km/h¥á¡¼¥¿¡¼
Starting bid 50,000 yen, quick sale 60,000 yen. Seems price has gone up, but that is a new article I think.
Actually what year is your car? The cluster plug changed in the 05 STI model, an additional warning light for ABS I think.
I'm assuming you want to keep the red gauges, if not these are available

Cheaper at 35000 yen, but fit GDB-A~B, no DCCD
PM me your mail address, I'll send you results of my research, too difficult to post everything here. I want this cluster for my 04, just can't justify that kind of cash at the moment..

Very old thread but it pops out from Google search. I just bought jdm forester sti from uk and drove to Estonia with it. Loved it. It also has k taped out in dash and all readings are in milles. I want to turn it back to kilometers. Do You know, how to do that? As much as I understand, there is some converter box wired behind dash. Is it safe to just remove it? Anybody done that?

wow , yes old thread , on the fsti i have always wired mine in just after the speedo drive on top of the gearbox , so don’t know if it’s there or behind the dash , if it is that then remove and re solder the wires in theory , the max speed will be limited back to 112 mph (179kph)

it will show in kph , the problem you get is all jap cars are limited to 112 mph which is around 179 kph , so when you have the speed converter on the theoretical max speed is 112mph x1.6 which is 179 mph , as due to the kph to mph conversion , the limit gets raised , as soon as you take the converter off the speed is back to a limited 112mph/179kph , a good mapper will be able to raise the limit plus map it at some cost

I see. Ok, thanks. As minor mapping is essential for this car, I don't care, if speed limit is on 180km/h for a short time. Not reach at this speed anyway near future, as we do not have motorways here in Estonia.

a re map , coilovers , center section delete and sports cat in the down pipe are only really needed mods , if you have 99 octane fuel the current map on the car should be fine but get it checked , you will need to find a good scooby mapper as they won’t necessarily all know how to change the limiter settings
