Just had this on e mail.Sounds simple enough and easier than a blockade Suppose I have just passed it to 20,000 drivers now (let me know if there is a flaw in this blokes plan)
*****See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it
We are hitting 106.9 p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced
with paying £1.10 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain
day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil
companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't
continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of
an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT,whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can
really work.
Please read it and join in!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take
a ggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place
not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we
consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the
price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not
purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting
ourselves. Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest
oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.
If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.
If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP
petrol buyers.
It's really simple to do!!
Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain
how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to
at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at
least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the
message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached
over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and
pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have
been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..
THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and
not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us
sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt,
all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the
next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference If this makes
sense to you, please pass this message on.
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE
RANGE
It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your
petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e.
boycott BP and Esso***

The problem with us British is that we moan like mad about it, but won't go out of our way to do anything about it.
The "Don't fuel up at X & Y" is a good idea, but sadly we (the British population) would rather pay whatever the cost was than go out of our way to drive to another petrol station. We then go home and moan about how much it's just cost to tank the car up.
Shame we weren't more like the French. They'd be blocking ports and burning sheep. We as Britains would never do this of course, as we'd all like to catch a Ferry on that day.

Road blocks would be as effective to cheaper fuel as urinating face on into a force 10 gale would be to not being sprinkled with wee.
If the protestors can successfully protest in a legal way that doesnt inconvenience me in any way - which the idiots in 2000 couldnt manage - then I would be willing to listen...

I see this email posted up on car forums very regularly and each time I say - this guy can count but he's forgetting there's only 55million ppl in the UK - so why would we want the email to reach 300million ppl?? lol So that would all of us in the UK (potentially) and then 245 million others who don't care as their tax on fuel is nowhere near ours....

If these taxes were used to help ease congestion, or were being directly invested into 'green' initiatives I'd be more than happy to keep coughing up, but we ALL know they are not.

Anyway,I don't really care about fuel costs while I don't have to pay for my fuel
The only annoying thing about fuel prices is ...put it in gallons not litres so us oldies can understand how expensive it is

The legal way ? What's that exactly? Get a load of signitures on a list and present it to Gordon Brown? All that would happen is that 10 Downing Street have a load of scrap paper to use for doodling on in Cabinet meetings.

As the pump price is dictated a lot by the world price, better look at the producers or rather the exporters.
Top oil exporting countries are apparently
Saudi Arabia
Russia
Norway
Iran
United Arab Emirates
If you fancy operating roadblocks over there... then don't bother buying a return ticket.

You only need to look into the tiny, tiny, tiny, percentage of these 'car' taxes that actually get used for financing anything else other than the welfare state.

well to all those who are moanng about this idea i say:
70% in support of or would take part in a blockade.
30% dont support it thus far.
Get it round you!
You moaners are the bunch that just want to sit there and take all the crap rules and egs that the government want to dish for the rest of your lives.
Im fairly sure that if u got around 1000+ cars, lorries, etc and blocked the major routes into and out of say 5 major cities like London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, and oil producing Aberdeen, for say 3 days (or more) i think they might listen.
Hell, lets look. A bunch of animal activists get on their high horse in london and then fox hunting gets band and now the country side suffers. Just shows that protesting works. No matter how stupid it is.

I havent read the whole of this topic but judging by the first 3/4 page, it seems people are happy to be charged whatever the government deems fit.
Its a british trait, we just accept the kick in the bollocks whenever the government feels like it.
Maybe one day, we might all fight back.

In theory, boycotting a particular petrol company could have an impact.
Imagine, you had your own chain of businesses around the UK and the great british people decided to boycott your business because of the high tax the government places on your product.
What would you do?
But, like i said, in theory... it will never happen, cos we brits are lazy and tbh, cant be arsed. So, we'll just keep accepting the increases.
I dont believe BUYERS control the market.
DEMAND controls the market and we NEED petrol. So while the demand is there, the prices can be whatever the government wants them to be.
We suck!

You seem to be the one moaning and doing **** all about it
Haven't seen the Fraser87UK fuel protest convoy as yet.
ps Fox hunting was banned because it's a cruel sport - all the idiots in London didn't want the ban - their "Protest" was as successful as your has been so far .
pps I didn't support the ban on fox hunting - I couldn't give a flying **** what people get up to in their own time - so long as it doesn't affect me - which is why I didn't like the last blockades

Your maths is a bit out Fraser,
1000 cars and lorries blockade all routes into the major cities? The M25 is over 125 miles long or about 200km. That's 200,000 metres. With the average car being under 5 metres long you would need over 40,000 cars just to blockade the M25. Your average artic is about 60 feet long or getting on for 16 metres so you'll need over 10,000 of them. Of course this doesn't include any of the routes under or over the M25 and neither does it include any of the other cities that you mention.
Best of luck with re-planning the logistics for your blockades.
