Newcastle is not that far from York.

I am going to report it officially tomorrow. Too late now. Someone has to do it for the sake of all of us, especially my neighbours who are on their own.
If you don't see me around, can I have white Lillies please

4 houses is great. There are so few of you that he will be having a major effect. That means people have to act, they cannot just duck down and hope he goes away. 4 v 1 is all the police need, 2 v 1 is pretty good.

Default Neighbours.

the police will only act if an offence is going to or has been committed. install CCTV and erect a sign saying CCTV is in use, this will cover any legal arguments. as for his dog if you complain about it running around and acting aggressively, i'm sure he will be warned. i have three staffs which are of similar type( not the same though ) and they never growl when wanting to play. they only growl when playing tug of war or when they hear a noise out of the ordinary. if that dog feels that your child is encroaching on its territory or position of power it may act aggressively, you must NEVER let the opportunity arise where that dog could be in a position to be aggressive toward your child. they are extremely powerful and very quick and agile. i quite believe one of them dogs could kill a large man. be on your guard all the time. Good luck Chris.

I feel for you... its really difficult to deal with people like this.. espeically as he has shown violence towards your neighbours.. I would probably ask him next time you saw him, what the threat was all about and test his reaction.. he might have had a royally **** day and (no excuse at all) but he might say sorry.. were as with Police he might do more that you cant prove was him !

CCTV is extreme considering only one problem...

I love dogs . . . but this is a corker ... literally from the sound of things.

Is this the same a dipping your chip in bicarb of soda and throwing it to a seagull? The bicarb is supposed to expand and blows up their crop in mid-air.

Or putting a pice of pork fat on a strong fishing line and feeding it to a duck. It is supposed to pass straight through and the next duck picks it so the same happens againand again until you reel in a dozen ducks for supper.

I did speak to the Police for advice and they wanted to log it and go and see him. They took it very seriously indeed.

I said I would think on it and let them know tomorrow. They did admit to having other incidents on him, obviously they would not let me know which ones, but I can hazzard a guess
You can do two thing here - one will cost you some money, the other could cost you an awful lot more and several years of grief.

I had a very tricky neighbour who moved in next door after we'd been lving in the house for about 7 years. He ended up in the funny farm after abusing his wife's kids by another marriage, but that's another story.

He started throwing his weight around making claims about property, trees and a well, all ours and very well [pun!] defined and so on. Each time I was very tactful and won him around - I hated myself for doing it but I could see he was getting worse so we sold the house before it got to the point where we would have had to tell buyers we had a problem neighbour.

I took professional advice and it cost us £30K to move with all the fees, removals, etc, but had we stayed we could have lost 30% of the value - £100K at the time - even if we had been able to sell.

No one likes bacing away from a problem - least of all a lot of ScoobyNetters who come up with some pretty aggessive solutions which make great reading, but there comes a time where discretion really is the better part of valour and I would seriously consider putting my house on the market ASAP - even in these challenging market conditions - and moving on to leave the problem behind.

Good luck!

Buy a sheep and a Shot gun.

You will then be a farmer.

If his dog worries your sheep - shoot the ******.

and you could always claim you hit the builder but missed his dog because your aim isn't all that good.

One thing's for sure - doing nothing is not an option.

In my experience there's only one way to deal with bullies - that's to smack them

But them I'm 6'2" and don't really scare that easily - especially when faced with a **** like you are (faced with)

Good luck whatever you decide - but the police is probably a good place to start - if they don't do anything - Get the Sheep

I think, as this guy is a heavyweight bully thinking he's the big fish in the small pond - and considering he's threatened to beat up a woman - he'll only understand one language, and I don't think it would be the one dished out by the police (note previous complainant to police got a chimney through his window according to OP). I do think a SN meet at Lesley's house is in order. How about an SAS themed party?

Ooh yes, I'm definitely up for that

Seriously though Lee old girl I think you should log it with the police and talk to your neighbours about him. Keep records of his antisocial behaviour and any futher incidents and pass them on to the police. Not just for your sake but for your neighbours' too, you'll all feel better about it if you know you're all together on this.

He's a bully and is trying to intimidate you all for his own benefit whatever that may be. He needs to be stopped as he's obviously making life uncomfortable for you all, stand up to him, he sounds like a complete ****
