They did. Sony were credited as being very environmentally aware and active. MS were really poor in this area, Nintendo worse.

sorry but its not really a far fight. The 360 was out way before the ps3, yet the ps3 offers little improvement in all reality, and it is difficult to develop for. The ps3 may have more scope for content with games etc, but if you follow past trends then this will just be wasted on poor cut scenes.

If both consoles were realised together or at least relatively closely then the ps3 would win hands down because its sony

does anyone find it amusing that the subject of "which console is greener" is being debated by people who've removed catalytic converts from their cars?

Yes, the PS3 is more difficult to code for, but from what I've seen so far it does offer better graphics, GT5P is way in front of Forza 2 or PGR4, and dare I say it - the gameplay demo of MGS4 on the PS Store blows COD4 out of the water.

The 60Gb does, obviously now unavailable here apart from E-Bay, I know the US version of the 80Gb doesn't support PS2, whether we ever get the 80Gb over here, rumoured to be Mar/Apr time, is another matter, also no guarantee it will be BC.

For me Sony have always been notoriously slow at getting the best out of their consols until a couple of years in, Gran Turismo on the PS1 for example, looks like that will be the game that does it again for them graphically on the PS3, i'm still not convinced the graphics on the 360 and the PS3 have jumped forward as much as PS1 to PS2 did, but time will tell, Uncharted is already showing what is possible and they only used half of what it is capable of, what has impressed me are the smallest details and the actual gameplay itself which seems to have improved immensely.

Good to see Bob269 and Iain still banging the drum for the 360, you can always guarantee they'll turn up in a PS3 thread, rent a mob

Its all about choice, we all have the same options just different opinions and whilst it''s easy to list all the fantastic things it can do there are still a lot of us who just want to have the odd couple of hours here and there to play games offline as well as online and couldn't care less if we can stream etc, if I wasn't married with a family no doubt i'd be hammering it day in and day out and I would be well into all it could do, horses for courses.

Not me. I've just recently sold the scoob

Very possible, (although I hated the last MGS game - too many cut scenes for my liking), but MGS4 and COD4 are completely different games so difficult to compare. A fairer comparison would be to compare 360 COD4 with PS3 COD4 (which graphically look identical apart from a few bugs which I saw on the PS3 version but haven't yet seen on the 360 version).

I've also still got my PS2 - never use it now though, never touched a PS2 game since getting the PS3, maybe a 60gigger is wasted on me....

still, quite tempted by doing the HDD upgrade sooner rather than later, and luckily it doesnt invalidate the warranty.

Well not really - a fiar comparison - it's a multiplatform game so of course it is going to look identical (and very nice it looks/plays too)

If you are going to compare you need to compare exclusives written specifically for that system. In this respect there is nothing on 360 that can touch uncharted.

But of course there are diminishing returns at this level - Do I care that Mass Effect does look as quite as good as Uncharted? Nope , not one bit.

It's all about the games, and as it stands 360 has the edge - But I feel that PS3 will have a strong 2008.

However by doing that you are not comparing the hardware, but instead comparing the quality of the development teams

I feel it will as well. I'm very tempted to get one soon, (may trade in my old 360 premium when it gets back from MS).

Lol, don't get me wrong, I may one day get a PS3, depending on some decent games and decent online. And yes, I pay for XBL but that isnt really an issue for me

Do you want to know the 2 biggest problems Sony has with the PS3?

1) Gamerpoints.
2) the Sixaxis.

I don't think MS realised how big gamerpoints were going to become, personally, if a game is dual format such as COD4, I'll be getting the 360 version these 2 reasons, gamerpoints are way too addictive when you have a half decent score and the Sixaxis an awful piece of design. I ways thought the DualShock 2 was THE gaming controller, but the 360's controller is just in another league. Playing with a Sixaxis is just painful - when GT5 comes out I'll definately be spending another £300 on a gaming seat and wheel.

Get one now if you can find a 60gigger. I can appreciate that many 360 owners will think they won't get the use from one, but its a fantastic piece of kit and will make you realise what a shoddy job MS did with the 360.

In no way am I suggesting the 360 is bad, Live! is the benchmark for online functionality, but if you compare the 2's build quality, operational volume & reliability, it makes you wonder why one electronics giant managed to do a good job and the other one couldn't be bothered. The noise of the 360 never used to bother me, but after being on a PS3 then going back to it its so noticable its embarrasing.

I think you've answered that yourself, Sony have many more years experience in electronics, also MS didnt help by sticking a cheapo pc dvdrom in their console, they should let us play games via the hddvd drive, this would solve the noise issue

Thinking about it, the PS3 can do the same can't it?

I still haven't worked out why I can see only certain files on my PC thru the PS3 . So find it easier to stick them on a CF card .

And yes Ive no doubt you can do the same on the 360 but for how long till the RROD shows

EA dropped me in a copy of burnout paradise today on PS3....what a bloody brilliant game!!!

But.....

I admit I've asked for a 360 version too because I want the gamerpoints.

And I'm not even a gamerpoints *****!

Just you wait til Home launches, complete with full 3D halls of fame and trophies etc.

In my experience i have found the complete opposite

Hammered the hell out of FIFA on the 360 for a good few months. Loved the game to bits but a couple of annoying wee points like the delay between passing the through ball button and the animation starting on screen was sometimes infuriating and random episodes of me pushing the direction stick in the 3 O'Clock position and the player passes the ball in the 5 O'Clock position straight to an opposing player. Thought this was down to EA and thier wonderful programming but after the 360 died on its **** last week i now have been hammering the PS3 version of FIFA. With the Sixaxxis i find i pass the ball in the direction intended 100% of the time and have experienced no random control delays and have found the Sixaxxis an absolute joy to use.

Loving the feature in Resistance where you have to shake the controller to get rid of the face huggers and the part in Uncharted where you have to balance the controller to get over logs and stuff.

When GT5 gets released the old Driving Force Pro wheel will get dusted off and plugged straight in the PS3. Might even invest in a new G25, seeing as the PS3 is compatible straight out of the box with the best wheel on the market.

Looking forward to Killzone2 and MGS which are defo PS3 exclusive and then GTA and then GT5

The future is bright, the futures is Black

This is a Subaru forum, I don't think many people that run a scoob can be too worried about "global warming" otherwise they would all sell-up and buy a Toyota Prius!

How many people do you honestly think think go round their house and switch off every electrical item completely....not many I would bet.

Aside from anything else you are shortening the life of your electrical items by a considerable amount if you constanly turn them on and off (and I mean hit the "off" switch, not put in standby)

Dear god, that's the worse case of "clutching at straws" I have ever ever seen!!

From someone who professes to owning every single gadget, console and DVD film known to man you can't really start using the non existant "global warming" argument to talk about a PS3 in standby mode!!

You love to argue for aguings sake Iain, and I really don't understand why you defend the 360 to the ends of the earth.

I have both now, but if I had to choose 1 it would be the PS3.

If you can't see the benefit of being able to stream 60gb+ of content to a personal media player, then you're in the wrong hobby

Not at all. You'd be surprised how much money that you'd save by not having your PS3, router, and modem turned on all the time over a year. When you've got as many electrical gizmos as I have, you tend to notice that sort of thing

As for the 360, I like the "idea" a lot. It has great games, and great online, and the whole experience is very slick.

However the build quality is complete rubbish. The only reasons I haven't swapped over to the PS3 are that all my friends have the 360, and all my games (a lot of them) are on the 360.

Having just had my 9th console go wrong (this time one of the new "reliable" Elites that's only a few weeks old), I'm beginning to wish I'd never set eyes on the thing.

If you can't see the benefit of being able to stream 60gb+ of content to a personal media player, then you're in the wrong hobby
I've got a 160gb ipod (and maybe an archos soon), so why do I need to search for a wireless access point and stream media over a dodgy internet connection when I can do it with no dropouts anywhere in the world just by turning on my device (and not having to have hardware running at home 24/7 wasting electricity)?

It's something we in the development world call "feature creep". i.e. something the developers put in because they could do it and thought it was cool without considering whether it's actually useful for anything
