What a load of tosh....

That one line doesn't say anything without reading the entire letter... you can bet your bottom dollar it's been completely taken out of context...

The OP seems the one 'adding' flavour to Prodrives response.....

its copyright theft at the end of the day, and theft is pikey x100 so can you blame prodrive?

they dont hate all subaru drivers, just the pikey ones with knocked off graphics kits, which is reasonable enough??!!??

the OP who posted the "scum message" is just a numpty, probably with a 2k loan to buy his aged classic, with knocked off graphics, and runs on 95ron fuel he has spat his dummy out and is trying to cause problems for prodrive by turning people against them

you know what? it wont work, it makes you look exactly like the kind of person that prodrive dont want to associate with to be honest

job well done on his part then LOL

There was a similar thread on the 555 rally reps a while ago.

colin mcrae replicas - Type-RA.co.uk - Forum for Subaru Impreza WRX Type RA, WRX STi, Spec-C, S202, Type RA-R

A very similar reply from SWRT.

prodrive were quite within their rights to take people to court for copyright theft, but it sounds like they haven't, because if it was about the money they would produce their own sticker kits.
The reason they give for not wanting replica graphics (on the swrt website) seems fair enough imo. Some cars look good some look naf. But at the end of the day i've probably driven faster than i should have and i have prodrive written on my mudflaps and rear windows

The O.P. on midland scoobies who started it all has posted the "letter" he recived from prodrive on the thread. It's word for word the same as the faq on SWRT.com just with Jackie Irwin's name attached to the bottom (I think she's in p.r. at prodrive).

Ha....Ha....Ha.....bull****!

Prodrive are just protecting copyright, and more power to 'em.

Although I would'nt mind a SWRT dot com for the top of my rear screen.

I've never seen a scooby being driven eratically or without due concern anyway, it must be the feeling of being in a thorougbred.

every make of car gets driven badly by some of it's owners, it's just that people remember them better if they have big stickers all over them.

stickers = something to associate bad driving with, research and write a complaint to.

If a driver in a Parcelforce van cut you up, you would complain to them... Joe Public probably thinks a car covered in rally team stickers probably IS a rally car\is being driven by someone involved in the rally company...so who do they complain to?

I don't blame them for not wanting people using their logo's on their cars...if i drove around like a **** in a car covered in Marks & Spencers logo's i'm sure they would object after receiving a couple of complaints!

Just a thought, but maybe the Prodrive association with stickered up rally reps could be seen as damaging (by PDs marketing guys) for current PD collaborations with Aston Martin etc.

Look at it this way, if you could afford a Prodrive Aston, would you want your golf buddies associating you with the 'baseball cap brigade'?

I'm sure its just a basic argument over copyright infringement.
At the end of the day it's a companies logo that should not be reproduced to make profit without consent...and damn right too.
Also the letter in question shouldn't have been posted in snippet form, it should be posted in its entirety.

Dear Brian

No, we are afraid not. The livery is trademarked not just to prevent it being copied and used commercially, but to maintain the integrity of the Subaru World Rally Team's World Rally Cars in order that they stand out wherever they go as the pinnacle of the sport.

We have had a number of instances where members of the public have complained directly to the team. Road cars that had SWRT decals on them are being driven erratically or without due consideration to other members of the road going public. The rest of the community believes that these cars with the SWRT livery are in some way affiliated with the team and could then reproach the team directly regarding this bad driving. We would seek to eliminate all such confusion by maintaining the integrity of the livery for just the Subaru World Rally Team and ask members of the public to not apply stickers copying the team livery onto their own cars.

Regards
Jackie Irwin

Seriously though.

Why don't Prodrive just sue the companies that are copying the the SWRT livery.

The companies are on every flea market up and down the country, it would be impossible.

I don't think prodrive are bothered about the whole legal stance and copyright issue. They are more pi55ed because a scooby with swrt looks exactly like one of their cars and as they have said this can cause problems. The livery is not just their trademark but its their actual brand so to speak, really it wouldn't be much different to setting up a breakdown company and putting AA livery on your van, bit far fetched but the same basic thing. You have to remember unlike any other profesional motor sport, WRC cars drive on the road at some points.

Calm Down, Calm Down!!

Actually I own £13k worth of JDM Bugeye and run a nice little graphics/sign company with some nice contracts with the local council and NHS.

The 'Scum' thing was just adding a little colour to the post. Don't stress!!!

I've got nothing personal against Prodrive, I think they are a company to be admired for what they have done for British motorsport.

As it turns out it probably wasn't Prodrive that had me kicked off Ebay, it was a hacked off competitor, posing as Prodrive, getting his own back for me selling better quality and cheaper graphics than them. My rally kits are detailed replicas, not cheap knock offs.

At the end of the day, I will carry on selling rally kits as long as people want to buy them.

Later dogs.

.
