No, they don't burble - they scream

Of course, the one you saw could have been a fake, there are a few around.

I think that's more what the JDM market likes, but I'd prefer the torque and the burble of the larger engine any day of the week.

Few people I know with big bhp have gone the equal length header and twin scroll route.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the twin scroll set up is not effective; it certainly improves the 2.0ltr boost threshold and lag, but I reckon for the UK market this is better acheived by upping the capacity of the engine.

Of course, the difference between the UK and JDm models probably has more to do with emission legislation than customer pref!

That said, I did speak to one source in Subaru customer relations who said there were no plans to go twin scroll with UK models and they know that we like the car's distinctive sound more than the japs, who prize efficency over character.

Ns04
I thought most, if not all, modern Turbo charged cars sport Twin Scrolls - EVO's, Renault Megane's, Astra VXR's, Mini Cooper S et al. Has to be a better option than upping the capicity of the engine in the eye's of most manufacturers, re cost, weight etc.

I wouldn't know mate, but I'm guessing if it were the UK cars would get twin scroll whether we liked it or not!

I think only the Vectra has twin scroll btw.

I think, on the road, a bigger displacement is preferable.

I know what you mean re the displacement preference on road, but my 360/360 twin scroll has no problems pulling from more or less nothing in any gear, so I'm a bad example.

My boss is picking up his brand new Vectra VXR(280) tonight hope to get a blast in it tomorrow, bet that's a monster up and going!

LOL I know what you mean: my humble classic with 320bhp will pull from very little without complaint, so the twin scroll must be good!

Subaru introduced the 2.5 first for the US market due to the problems over there with super unleaded not being readily available, so by upping the capacity it guaranteed they achieved the quoted power output even on poor grade fuel. It was then introduced into the European market due to the Euro 4 emissions regulations, as it actually a cleaner engine than the EJ20, which would have needed expensive modifications in order to meet the new regs.

In relation to your post though, I do agree as regards the twin scroll setup. Far more efficient in terms of building boost. Wasn't aware that the Megane and VXR used a twin scroll though. Learn something new everyday.

I don't know what to say about the car. Its no classic, but was it meant to replace it, no. It looks too normal like a everyday car, just with boy racer add-ons. Very Focus ST look about it. No real pedigree that shouts out from the car, like the previous models did (some better that others though). Its just not what an Impreza should look like. I know, I know time for a change al all, but I just don't see customers that would usually buy a Audi A3, BMW 1 series, Ford Focus and the likes, change their mind and go for a Subaru. Most of those people would just turn there nose up as that car (the Impreza) is below them.

Maybe if SUBARU brought over the saloon Impreza and STi tune that, then maybe, but I don't think the people that would usually buy and impreza will but this new one. Sorry.

Keep an eye on the Litchfield / PowerStation camp..... you could be seeing some rather special new shape STI's coming from them in the future.

The future is bright!!!

Things will always change, that's life or everyone would be Driving around in a 2008 Model T ford, I willing to embrace change if it suits my life style

I could guess Subarus Rational behind the UK hatch but ........ Oh well flame suit on

1) To be competitive in the WRC etc New car had to be hatch shaped

2) They aren't going to b4lls up biggest market and biggest clout, the USA (about 50% of total sales) if no saloon and it would have crippled sales

3) "The rest of the world" where hatchbacks are a big market share of car sale, it makes sense to produce the 50% in Hatchbacks and sell them there.

4) up to 2000/01 UK had plenty of clout due to the high Percentage of total subaru sales, since then have pummited (bar from a upsurge in late 2004 to late 05 sales) but sales were catostrophic in last 18months

5) so if "UK poeple" airen't even buying enough Saloons, They may aswell try selling the hatch first and just aim it at a different target audeince, they cant do any worse

IMHO

Tony

I wasn't that keen, I'd have prefered them Colour coded to match Car

IIRC Iain said the Trims are an optional extra and only fitted on to "Dress" the Car for the Autosports show

I did hear a rumour that a few UK Demo's may be out in the next 3 weeks or so

I see that the MY08 STI accessories are now listed on the Subaru website. The BBS 18" wheels are £750 each and it looks like that does not include tyres .
Official Accessories, Merchandise & Parts - Accessories | Subaru (UK) Ltd.
I also noticed on NASIOC there seems to be a big problem with stone chips on the rear doors, sills etc.

Slightly harsh IMHO it seems like a combination of the STi bulge arch, narrower side skirts than WRX, no mudflaps and the road surfaces they use

To cure the stone chip issue Subaru UK will probably fit armourfend to the offending area. I have seen it done before on other marques with the same problem.
