Rottie kills owner in London street
#61
Do we not seem to have the same debate every few weeks at the moment ?
I have said before, sure Rottweilers are by and large lovely dogs, trouble is that when they go wrong they eat your face, rip your arm off or eat the Baby, to avoid having your face eaten, Arm Severed or Baby eaten buy a smaller dog and when it goes postal you only get your face nipped, arm nibbled or baby slightly gnawed.
I do feel sorry for responsible Rottweiler owners with all this going on, must be depressing having people scoop up their kids and glare at you like you have the Hound of hell on the end of a lead.
Perhaps they should breed a toy Rottweiler ?

You postulated that you could never say that rottwielers were safe to own, and could back that up with figures. As it turns out , you can't. I was taking you to task for making that "stats" claim.

Are you even reading the same thread?
I'll try one more time for you, this thread is about whether Rottweilers are more dangerous than other breeds of dog, still with me? Good. This is why posting up how many dog attacks there are and working out the likelihood of being attacked by any breed of dog, is pointless. Still OK?
This is why the stats that I produced, with a breakdown of number of attacks by different breeds are relevant. Even though you seems to think that because the dogs are American they are somehow irrelevant.

This thread was about a 78 year old man who was "mauled" by his dog.
The dog was a Rottwieler and therefore many have jumped on the bandwagon.
The french woman who lost the lower part of her face appears to be a similar story - she was comatose and her dog (most certainly not a Rottweiler) caused the damage over a long period of time trying to revive her.
There are other similar stories involving different breeds of dog from accross the world.
In this case, as has been reported in this thread, the dog was most probably trying to revive him the way dogs do - start by licking which then will sometimes progress into chewing as happened with the french woman, and may well have happened here.
Interesting how the only person injured was the owner - and yet the dog was "dangerously out of control" Ok, yeah, whatever...
Of course, the headline, "Man dies in tragic circumstances after his dog tries unsuccessfully to revive him" doesn't have quite the same punch as "dog kills owner in horror attack"
Does it?

I think there are very few dogs or breeds that are inherently bad - I would bet 99% of problems with dogs are down to their owners.
Unfortunately for Rottweilers, Staffies, Pit Bulls etc... a certain type of person seems to be attracted to these dogs ( without mincing words - skinny **** pikey low lives who probably have the dog as protection against all the people who would give them a well deserved shoeing otherwise ! ) and these owners are the ones who dont train or keep proper control of their dogs.
But just to show that even the most loyal and intelligent dogs can be violent - our border collie has grown to the perfect size where every time she jumps up to play with me she smacks me in the *****. Her aim is so good I'm sure its not just a coincidence though !

Just out of interest, isnt it amazing (for those that watch) how many small and medium dogs are aggressive and problematic on the Dog Whisperer.
2 yorkshire terriers and a lil mutt wanted a piece of Tuvaaq on his walk the other day. The only difference, they dont have the power to follow through in the same way. That in my opinion is the major difference, and why you rarely see "savage poodle" "yorkshire terrier killing spree" "jack russell ate my wife" and all the other ott headlines you get.

Blame the deed, not the breed!

My wife was attacked by an Alsatian when she was younger.
She knew the dog well, it had been friendly on many occasions, it just so happens on the day in question she walked into the house before her friend who owned the dog and the attack ensued.
You can debate for hours regarding this but looking at it from the perspective of the person attacked, there are certain dogs that should not be pets and there are certain owners that shouldn't have pets at all never mind dogs...
Why someone needs a great big dog in suburbia baffles me, but each to their own i suppose.

I'll take my chances if I had a choice between putting him in a car or placing him near a Rottie.
I love dogs, Rotties are nice looking dogs as well (unlike staffs/pit bulls ), but as has been said they must be inherently more angry than other dogs. I had a Lab from 0-14 years old and the most danger I had was from her eating the tea off my plate when I wasn't looking.

I just read about this on a website, so its gone from rottweiller attacks mauls and kills his owner, to finally the truth which is, man has heart attack, people see the man fall to the ground and the dog put its head near the man and nuzzle him, police come in with fire extinguishers automatically assuming the "I read the sun newspaper mentality" and end up shooting the dog without actually checking to see if the dog actually bit the man.... (which from what I can gather he didnt).
nice to see the usual morons jumping in with both feet

Quote from sky news:
"a worker at a nearby cab firm insisted that the dog was not attacking the man but trying to help him.
Lee Hanson said: "The man was face down and the dog was trying to wake him up.
"The dog wasn't attacking him at all... it was his own dog. It was banging his head, trying to wake him up."
Mr Hanson said he would see the man walking past the offices every day and he and the dog appeared to be "best friends"."
Its about time news broadcasters were called to account for the sensationalist rubbish that they publish.
Oh, and it was one, not six, fire extinguishers and the dog ran off. No wonder - was probably terrified.
