I exchanged a few text messages with the lad that started my Beadle nickname last night, he reckons I will make a few quid on the look-alike circuit, despite the fact I look nothing like him, its cos my hair goes a bit curly when its long.

Anyway, I think he was the man for a while on British telly, there are a long line of people who get the same treatment, i.e. their show is massively rated and watched by millions, then we tire of them, then they become annoying to us and finnaly they become a figure of fun, Les Dennis, Noel Edmonds, Paul Daniels, Keith Harris but especially Jeremey Beadle.

JB ended up as a bit of a joke to a lot of people, like the list above have to differing extents, I suspect this is because he looked a bit odd and the disability thing, a lot of these old entertainers either re-appear like Noel Edmonds doing something else after their time in limbo or turn up as ironic amusement like Les Dennis (who is obviously a real sport) in Extra's or on some crappy reality show.

I do think its a shame how the public were about Beadle, maybe he deserved a bit of it in some small way as he could grate at times but he made a lot of people laugh and his charity work was tireless. Still he made a few quid and enjoed more than his 15 minutes of fame, it just seems a bit cruel how he was treated in his latter years.

It is strange how people generally frown on discriminating on grounds of disability but seeing as it was Beadle it was ok ? I am not completely innocent in this I hasten to add I did laugh at the "On the other hand" joke as it is actually quite amusing in isolation, but I am squirming a bit now after RRH's posts and feel a bit of a ****.

That's for the Chinese audience........

His charity work was a fantastic achievement so well done JB.

I found that they were the sort of programmes that I wouldn't turn on to watch deliberately but if it was on I was hooked on the pranks.

One that has stuck in my mind for years was when he arranged for some removal men to take a load of boxes into a room in an upstairs flat. They just fitted through the door upstairs. During the removal men's teabreak they switched the boxes so that they were just too big to go through the door and then told the team that they had the wrong address and had better get the boxes out pdq. Very funny!! dl

I remember the 'Go Lightly' family. They went testing beds in a bed shop and were huge and everytime they jumped on a bed...you can guess what happened. Very funny and making me chuckle even now...

I have no time for public sympathy on forums, if there's a gag to be had...make it.

But isnt this like one of those conversations where someone says something funny and then someone else twists it for a second gag...and on and on...until your left with the group moron struggling for his go long after the thing peaked.

If this was a scum bag then fair enough.....but considering the guy was a charity machine and had viewing figures in the 80,s that would make Simon Cowell come in his pants - shouldn't the humour be of a higher standard if its going to get a laugh?

I dont see why having high viewing figures in the 80's when there were 3 and a half tv channels and raising money for charity should make someone exempt from gutter level jokes?

It doesn't, clearly - i'm just puzzled as to whether those posting another variation of "he had a little hand" realise they are the group retard?

I prefered Jeremy over Dennis Norden, because Dennis talks too much and Jeremy made the show entertaining. Great guy RIP.

Never liked the bloke personally. Thought he was a big dick, although on the other hand he wasn't so big.

...as the solicitor was reading through his will, Jeremy Beadle had requested that his remains be recycled into compost and scattered on his garden. ITV bosses say he could be back in the early autumn with "Watch out, Beadle's a Sprout"

Try looking at the post above mine...then back at page 1. Obviously the humour on this thread needs to be pitched at a pretty low level to avoid confusing folk.

For the funeral, Mrs Beadle doesn't know what to arrange.

She would like a lavish do, but on the other hand she thinks a small finger buffet is more appropriate.......

Funny thing is, when I was a kid (okay younger ), I loved every show he did, didnt matter what format it was, when he presented it, it just seemed to work. Even nowadays, if I saw a re-run on some uk gold type channel of the old stuff, you cant help but laugh and he certainly has provided some memorable situations over the years. Fair play to the guy for his charity work as well.

But he certainly has provided a lot of humorous material in the event of his death. whilst it may seem cruel and heartless now, just imagine when us lot snuff it. I think we would be well chuffed if there was half the material posted about us

Aye well said Chris. Beadle was a funny bloke and one episode of his sticks in my mind. It was in an allegedly haunted office where this Kiwi lass was working. This ghost would come out singing Gin Gan Guly Guly and performing the Morecambe and Wise dance across the office. Beadle turned up in his convincing disguise and started to question this girl who being a Kiwi was completely alien to the whole Beadle thing. As Beadle is talking the ghost does an impromptu dance and Gin Gan Guly routine. This sets Beadle off who laughs so much that tears are streaming down his face. The girl is quite bemused even more so when Beadle removes his disguise, that was a funny episode.
