Where does all this carp about rolex bands originate? I've worn a stainless steel dateadjust for the last 15 years alternating with a seadweller for the last 2 and definitely no bracelet failures.
#66
It's a fact they feel flimsy and cheap compared to some other premium brands. The 'carp' comes from the fact I've had 2 failures although that was on the same watch. I have 5 Rolex watches at the moment, only the SD has had any problems although all feel cheap and nasty as previously mentioned.

Well I'm certainly not a watch collector or fetishist but I did go to watches of Switzerland and tried everything comparable and above. My take on "cheap and nasty" was "light and strong" IMHO.

That's a much more positive way to look at it. However when a 3 grand watch has cheaper construction than a 1.5K Omega you have to wonder if Rolex are taking the proverbial. I don't buy Rolex for the quality or the brand name 'prestige' I just think that some of them are classic pieces of design.

Many think it's a gorgeous watch, but I'd just like to point out what I think is a limitation if you plan to wear it daily.
I haven't clicked on the link, they may have fixed that problem by now.

GenericUser: if you are who I presume you to be, then your opinion aabout watches interests me, but Im not going to get into an arguement about 'quality fakes'. You can buy quality pure cocaine too, but I'll show my **** in Binns window if you actually did. This applies to the 'top quality' ETA-equipped fake Rolex watches too.
Davey: I know which ones are fakes, as you posted the same nonsense on a thread about proper watches a couple of months ago.

Regarding the 'quality fakes' issue there is no argument, they do exist, I've seen them and handled them. Some are so good that even a watchsmith wouldn't be able to tell without removing the caseback. Doesn't make them as good as the real thing, neither does it make them desireable to me personally. I've got a Tag Chrono sat in my watchbox that is almost impossible to tell from the real one that's right next to it. If I was to be hyper critical of it I'd say it's possible to tell because the anti-reflective coating is better than the genuine piece. It was given to me by a friend in the far east who exports these for a living. He's also an avid collector of genuine watches which when you consider he has the pick of some of the finest fakes available tells you which ones are really worth having.
Regarding the cocaine issue get a different dealer, if you were here I could make a phone call and you'd be displaying your rear in a retail environment.

Some people can't bear to be seen wearing something they perceive as uncool for whatever reason. Personally I just wear a G-Shock.

Not everyone who owns Fakes/Replicas is a pikey/cheapskate, they just admire watches for their style/design and dont mind buying an immitation and alot of people actually own replicas of their originals because the originals are locked away in a safe.. I know it sounds bizare but its true.
I'll tell you know the sort of replicas I own and many others own (and avidly collect) you'ed not be able to tell if you had it in one hand and a genuine in the other..

The best fake in the world is still a fake. You have no idea what 'end of the spectrum' he is referring to. It is real, or it is not: if its not then it is a fake and no amount of kidding me that it is an exquisite piece of watchmaking will alter that.
Ive only ever seen one fake that looked anything like the real thing and that used a genuine case, bracelet, dial and crystal with a ringed ETA movement (out of a Rolex Tudor). Little else comes close.

Do you have a similar stance on say a GT40 replica or are you willing to admit there are some fine quality fakes out there that would fool all but the highly trained eye?
The reason I ask is that you seem to be ignoring my assurance that it's possible to purchase fakes that would most likely fool you, me and others at a cursory examination. Believe me when I tell you I am not making this up.
I wouldn't say any mass produced major brand watch is an 'exquisite piece of watchmaking' either. Certainly there are some fantastic designs but mostly they are mass produced with generic movements in them. A bit like the best fakes.

I think at the end of the day you are just being a tad bit of a snob; If you can have a Replica which is an EXACT replica then the only reason to buy the original is to make yourself feel better. To go round grouping them all as FAKES and worthless is very nieve..
Just look at the serious collectors of FAKES/REPLICAS many of the 'vintage' versions which very rare have started to be worth some serious money and are very sought after. Hence why I have a collection of very very fine replicas because one day they will be worth 10 times what I paid for them; much better appreciation than a budget GENUINE Rolex

If for whatever reason I decide to leave my SD off, I alternate between an old G shock and an old swatch (depending on the circumstances) Never seen the point of buying a fake for those days.
However, exceptionally good fakes do exist, and I suggest that on this occasion you accept that you are not the "font of all knowledge" and bow to others who clearly know more about the subject than you do
