Hi frazy I have as many other on here have followed your car progress and development over the two years I have owned a Subaru and it has really inspired me to modify my car in the same way (on a much small scale at the min) keeping it taste full and only using quality parts etc … so it would be very sad to see you move on

and to be honest I have never got the whole fast ford thing they have never done it for me and I don’t like the image they seem to have (I own a Scooby I no there image is probably the same) but it sounds to me like you have made your mind up and if your not getting that kick out of starting your car up at the start of the day or that smile on your face when you walk over to it in a car park then I sadly think its time for you to move on …

If your still unsure then maybe you should finish off your project and then you will be able to move on without ever questioning “did I do the right thing” ….

I know what you mean, my uncle has had a few sapphire cossies and the last one was running 330bhp and was seriously, seriously quick. lol. faster than impreza's ive been in with similar power. Think the cossies definetly use the power better. Dont get me wrong though I love my sub.

go for it bud, go and get the cossie... i'm a huge fan of fords, alsoways had em, esp the fieta xr2i.... awesome motor... i'm fed up with my scoob... only had it 6 months, and when i first bought it, it made me smile, but now the novelty has worn off, the whole i have a scoob sensation has gone, and mor eand more i see them on the roads... i have never been one to follow the crowd, and over the next few months can see the scoob going... the one thing i will miss, will be the exhaust burble... for that you cant match it... but i like my small cars, i find i am a lot more confident in driving a car that is the size of a clio or fezzy, as regards to the scoob...

go for the cossie mate, and have fun! u only live once!

Funny you saying that it made you smile when you first had it. Mine was the complete opposite. I sold the cossie and bought this. I had it a week and could of cried. It ws boreing and slow as hell. I hated it.

I decided that i would try upping the power to try and fill the cosworth sized shoes that i had stepped out of. Im now running approx 350 ish bhp and it goes okay. But its nothing like the rush of the Cossie.

Its gotta be said, its a boring uninvolving drive that really just doesnt get my heart racing.

Great car, just as soleless as a brick wall.

i'm an EVO fan... (sorry but its true) i test drove an evo 6, 300 bhp, in white, and it was stunning... took it out, the exhaust sounded like a 1.2 corsa, until the turbo wound up! blimey, what a thrill!!! my jaw was hurting cos of the pull the car had... inside the car was brill... really good build quality, and recaros as standard.. the body work was ok, and the mileage low... he wanted 5k for it (trade), only thing is, it needed a service, 2 tyres, tracking and a clutch was looming. that car did make me grin, and as a result i would have bought it, except the guy wouldnt do the repairs... i bought the scoob instead.. 270 bhp, my99. love the looks of it, and the decals, but it didnt have the buzz of the evo. it has as much pull, but its lame.. the evo's turbo kicked in like a sledge hammer, right in the middle of your back, mine...... its more refined... its gonna have to be an evo for me, if not, an rs turbo!!

what was your old cossie running frayz? just sounds alot like the classic v newage comparison.
prime example was when i came from my classic to my sti, the classic was (apparently) 277/260 ish and my sti never 'felt' as quick, 265 bhp v 277 bhp. but in reality i would have killed my old classic on anything other than a straight line.

i don't think you'll ever get the cossie feel out of your (or any) scooby, but is this what you're after or just a more 'raw' feel?

ultimately you know what you're looking for, but personally i think once the shine has worn off the rose tinted cossie specs you'll miss the scooby! i know where you're coming from though, i still miss bits of my old classic, but would i go back? nope.

if you fancy something with soul how about a caterham of something nutty like that?

i do think you've made up your mind already though

I understand what you're saying. Whenever I drive my sister's Scoob I find it very boring & it was the same for V5 MAN's old Evo 6 but whenever I drive my Cosworth it's so interesting to drive and involving like you say, the only thing I've found that compares is V5 MAN's Skyline

Get a rear wheel drive one and you'll love it. The other plus point on a Cosworth is that they don't depreciate

Do it, you know it makes sense.

although it would seem a waste of money, sell the impreza and buy the cossie, if you don't like it just sell it and start again!!!

to me it sounds like you want to be talked out of selling your scoob, not unreasonable due to it being top notch and oweing you a pretty penny!!!! i still miss me little civic cos of the revs, but then i'd miss the turbo and the noise if i sold up now!!!!

grass is always greener!!! (cliche and probably fed up of hearing it, but true!!!)

Frayz dont know ya however i reckon ya should go bk to a rwd cossie,i got 2 mates at the mo with saphs 1 x rwd, 1 x 4wd and another mates owned a 3door cossie and an escort cossie followed by a porsche 993 turbo 4 and currently an audi RS4-called in to see him the other week an still maintain`s the most fun he ever had were in the 3door cossie (likes the rs4 but can tell he aint too bothered about it)

Only had his escort about 6mths tops, said the sierra spoilt him reckoned the edgyness and because you really had to drive it against the easiness of the 4x4`s just made it loads more of a drivers car-scary on occasions if ya like but in a good way

I reckon he`d agree even with the cars he`s had since biggest mistake were sellin his 3door cossie.

Jays 4x4 scoobymad/jays 4x4 saph cos - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Mates Rwd saph(were selling this but changed his mind lol)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...otors/cos2.jpg

Johns sierra cosworth scoobymad/johns sierra cosworth - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

escort that followed it scoobymad/johns escort cosworth - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Another mates gone bk to a escort series1 RS turbo from a 99 classic scooby an loves it to bits, aint as quick but its a lovely car-he`s no regrets. scoobymad/puzs s1 rs turbo - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

just follow ur heart mate an quick before ya scooby loses too much value lol-u know the score with scoobys at least rs`s are going up in value if ya buy the right ones-mate payed £4100 for that series 1-must be worth £5500 now

Like i said if you want a drive in one of the 3 doors just pop down this way and i'll sort something out.

Found a piccy of the Escort i was talking about, it's a bit tasty!!!

And just to tempt you even more, this is lovely aswell.... (currently midway through a 600bhp conversion)

Well chaps, i have to be honest.

I took the scoob for a longer drive tonight, about 100miles round trip.

I will admit i had forgotten its sheer pace amongst other normal cars. Its ability to break traction in 2nd and overtake at will was quite pleasant.

It still feels like it needs more power though, 350 is nowhere near enough for a newage.
I want it to break traction in at least 3rd if provoked and scare me every time the loud pedal is burried.

I genuinely think this is the only way i will find out if its what i really want. I think i'll build the 2.5 and see how i feel then.

Maybe it will become as interesting as the Cos was... But unfortunately still looks like the ugly kid. It will never match a cos for looks but then no scooby ever will IMO.

Deffo cossie after the scoob though, or even a cossie mk1/mk2 escort.

Im a die hard fordy and thats that i guess. Who knows what might happen.

Thankyou for taking the time to give me your thoughts.

Keep em coming

I too have the same thoughts about moving back to a escort cossie. However with kids I dont think the missus would accept that sort of rebelious behaviour.

I have owned two escort cossies one a on n plate (small turbo) and the other on a k (big turbo 400bhp). The small turbo was great as an every day in town car as the power came in much low down the rev range but in the open the big turbo was much more fun!

I change cars like there is no tommorow, currently on my 32nd car. Ive owned a few scoobies and they are far more reliable & easier to live with as an everyday car. However my heart always lies with the escort cossie. The looks, the feel, the pedigree and the residuals are immense. A timeless classic. If you can afford the running costs & big bhp conversions then its a worthwhile investment. They are becoming a bit dated in the tech side of things but as I can see from the money you spent on your bug you will be fine!

Good luck

I went from a newage to my classis STi RA for that reason, I wanted something a bit more raw and well.. less flabby.

The newage STi had PPP, had a fair bit of pace but didn't feel like it was eager to get there (like you said, not enough power for the newage). Test drove my mates STi v6 and it was a different ball game.

His car was stock power but just felt more raw. Being a fan of rear wheel drive car's I decided the RA ws my best bet - once you workout the DCCD the car is a lot of fun especially when the back is sliding out on boost!

I have had 3 impreza's, after owning 3 you can tell I do like them, they are just too good. The impreza will do almost everything you ask of it, but they just are not overly involving for a driver whe needs fun, and by fun I mean rear out sideways fun at will.

I recently went and chased my dream, am I happy, oh yes, more than happy with no regrets. When it first went on the dyno it did 204bhp, so stage 2 later and not very much cost compared to the same bhp increase in the subaru world and AETTurbos got her to 286BHP,

I did quite a bit of work on her all in all, full run down lot of pics here in the WYIOC section

Quick Reply: Bored of the impreza.... pining for another Cossie
