TMIC?
#61
Quite a few people I'd imagine. Over three gearchanges and say 30-100mph, that's nearly a second lost. A lot of people pay big wonga to get more power for faster acceleration - they might be disappointed to discover that in the process, they might actually end up with less acceleration through the gears

I must admit,
If i've got my foot on the floor, I expect my car to accelarate, not pause and then accelarate.
I have a Hyper Flow TMIC along with one of Andy's finest and with the help of a little looney juice, hoping to see a fair bit past 400hp (what ever that means, does sound good though ) on standard internals. Front mounted intercoolers on the newage cars are a little over kill unless your running 450-500+hp imo and then I'm sure, as Andy F says, with good temperature control, and top mount will still surfice. Classics, well the only reason I would fit a front mount to a classic is if it didn't have the phase 2 manifold and I had to cut and weld the larger TMIC to clear the idle bypass valve etc......, other wise I'd stick to the TMIC for drive-ability.
Front mounted intercooler do look good but why spend £100's of pounds (over a grand for an APS) for something that will hinder the performance, even if it does see higher HP figures.
Each to there own but imo, TMIC's are perfectly fine for 95% of applications.

What car is it you have? UK, Turbo, JDM, STi, WRX?
I'm guessing on a my00 the STi8 TMIC will fit your car with relatively little work required so I'd go for one of them and it will see 400hp with the correct supporting mods mate

I think there are valid arguments for both TMICs and FMICs.
Mine is one of the 11 sec cars that AndyF mentioned and the STi8 TMIC does seem to work well. I am however always fighting heatsoak on the dragstrip and I am always conscious of this on the road too (everyday stop/start traffic).
IIRC '911 (Graham)' went from a STi8 TMIC to a FMIC and much preferred it.
If I was to do it all again and was shooting for 400bhp+ I would seriously consider fitting a decent FMIC and be done with it.
I don't get any time to work on my car so its staying as it is for now.
If anyone is interested in buying a decent quality FMIC, we have Hybrid ones in stock from £299

My Hybrid arrived today. Had a quick peek and it appears to be very good quality! Bling! lol
I'll let you all know how I get on once fitted and mapped. Bare in mind my car is VERY much for road use, not frag strip or track. I will tell it like it is, don't worry!

If you have a road car and looking at anything up to 400-440bhp than a STi8 TMIC should suffice...... as long as everything else is equal (i.e. using a nice efficient turbo etc), but this is the power area (and some) that you would see certain benefits of using a good FMIC.
If you are running circa 400+bhp and you intend in using your car as a track vehicle, I would move over to a good, efficient FMIC.
For most road going conversions (at nominal power levels) I would certainly suggest the STi8 TMIC.
Obviously things are never always equal and clean cut like this, but it gives you a good idea.
