A couple of WRC cars competing in Ireland use a front number plate on a hinge, to let more air into the front mount. So the faster your going the more the plate tucks up flat.

Years ago in my motorbiking days, eh, rumour had it spraying the back number plate with spray grease worked well.
Within a few minutes the plate was covered in dust and couldn't be read.
So I was told anyway
