Its one of my wisdom teeth I can't afford to lose that.
Had all 4 of mine removed on November the 6th ...... thought it would save another visit to the hospital if I got them all done at the same time

2 of the 4 were impacted so they had to cut bits of both sides of my lower jaw bone away too ....

You haven't lived till you've had that much fun

Will get the pics of the state (and size of my face) posted over the weekend when I have some time

Hello

I am a dentist Amoxyl is a basic broad spectrum antibiotic you need to be taking it for at least 48 hours before it gets into your system...use warm salt water mouthrinses and acold compress for your swellling. What painkillers are u taking?

I had all four wisdom teath out last year as the lower 2 were impacted and kept getting infected.
It took me 20 years to pluck up the courage to get it done and I still insisted on a general anesthetic. I don't think I could have sat there for the best part of an hour as they cut away at my jaw bone and drilled them out

Having said that I was very suprised at how little I suffered afterwards. I went straight home and took pain killers for a week, the bleeding stopped after a few days and I only had slight swelling.

It was certainly a lot less pain than having toothache. Wish I had gone and had it done years ago.

I had all my wisdoms out over a varying time period, & dependant on the current method in favour at the time.

i dont have to worry about them any more.

lets just say....never again

if you get some bonjella, that helps with the tooth pain, along with clove oil, but that tastes foul.

if you start on the ibruprofen, see a pharmacist, i,m pretty sure you can whack the dose up well beyond what the pack says (i had an abscess at the time). And if i recall you can intersperse the doses with paracetamol

Sounds like an absess.

You will have to complete the course of anti's first before the dentist can touch you.

If the infection is still there when they open up the tooth to do the root canal work, it can lead to speticemia (blood poisoning) and worst case, death.

Seriously if by the last day of the anti's the swelling still hasnt improved, go back, some strains are anti resistant.

If you havent yet seen a dentist why are you being treated for an abcess. Or do receptionists diagnose these days.

Seems to depend if the teeth are impacted of not and to what extent they need to cut the bone.....and if they damaged the nerves whilst getting the ******* out

I wasn't allowed to do anything at all that could raise blood pressure, for a week, as everything needed to clot.

Mine seemed to be a bit awkward and still having grief with jaw muscles and the healing of the jawbone 3 months on.....

More uncomfortable than sore, painkillers they gave me were adequate

Si, you look a bit like that King bloke off Emmerdale, but thinner in the face.

Can`t think of his name though.

Nothing worse than toothache though, not mentioning an abcess

You really want to think about a new dentist , the fact that a receptionist can dish out prescriptions without you seeing a dentist is a joke and then telling you to put up with the pain just isn't on Our practice always has one of the four dentists on call at weekends and out of hours who will open the surgery for any emergency calls that arise.

Hope your pain dies down and you get sorted soon.

The receptionist will not be 'dishing out' prescriptions. I would assume that Scooblou is known at her dental practice and her problems with an impacted wisdom tooth are known too. Rather than make her wait the dentist will issue a prescription for a known problem and see her when the swelling goes down. The more worrying thing is that the swelling has not gone down and the prescription nearly finished. As Aaquil said 24-48 hours should see improvement and if it is not happening then the dentist would usually change the prescription or double up with another antibiotic alongside to 'hit it hard'.

The hot/warm salt water mouth rinses are also meant to help - although are totally REVOLTING.

Call them again for advice tomorrow morning SL.
