Lovely, I really love them in black but i had a black blob eye and i think it hides the curves of the car to much.

Hawkeye Twin scroll STI or Uk 2.5 STI

I really am getting confused with this.

Which is better.

When you have 2 banks of cylinders, ideally you need two seperate turbochargers.

If you have only one turbo, then the exhausts pipes leading to it are quite crucial.

Unequal lengths requires a single entry turbo, this gives a 'pulsed' gas flow and is the preferred method for performance.

When the exhaust pipes are of equal length giving a constant gas flow,a twin entry turbo is needed, more for reliability than out right performance.

Thats how it works on ship engines anyway

..I digress

why get hung up about the tax? How long you going to have the car, at a guess cause its you about 18 months tops, so the difference between the brackets will be about £300 over the term eg very little when compared with depreciation, imho

Those 19s look huge!

I'm guessing they have had a significant affect on handling/comfort/performance?

Lol, it has to add up for the wife to agree.... which i must say is not going well. however she will get sick of me soon and just say please your bloody self what you buy!

I plan on keeping the STI for a good few years. In all honesty i shouldn't have sold the last one for an Evo it was something i think i needed to get out of my system.. Never again shall i default.!!

So i have been looking at the Blobeye JDM..

ahh what to do??

Scott, your wrx is putting out what?? 270bhp?

I know you have the porche to play with but how do you find the wrx compaired to your old STI?

I found a very nice looking wrx which has a powerstation upgrade putting out 340bhp its very tempting as its under 14k.

Now a question for other to answer as well....
I have to admit i loved the 6 speed box in the STI but all these new versions have the DCCD. I have never driven or for that matter been in a car with DCCD so i cant miss it... will i be missing something good

DCCD can be very useful in my opinion especially on the track.

Sadly i'm never going to be on a track. The nearest one (knockhill) would be a 250mile trip each way.

Any real use on the road.?? The highlands can be very twisty.!

DCCD sorted out the poor handling of the Scoob when it first came out. Think you'll find that a non DCCD one tends to wash out at the front when cornering ... the dreaded under steer!

my new wrx is a better allround car than my old sti imho. With the roads we have i just felt the sti was a bit too hard and "busy" when making progress
Theres a fairly big difference in the way they deliver there power/torque, which is best depends on how you drive your car, if you like to drive to the red line to be quick go for the sti, if you like to be quick without ragging it then the wrx wins for me. If you want me too take you out a run gies an email, its no probs.

You'll not get a T25 for £17k ish fella. Apologies as can't remember what your budget is albeit you did say a 55/06 plate "normal" STi ...

That one does look good though

Yeah that one is just a wrx which has been modified by powerstation. It has bigger turbo, intercooler etc etc runing 340bhp. It had a reasonable price tag some 3k cheaper than most of the sti's i looked at.

First.. i dont want to be getting one with the £400 tax bracket as that will be the battle lost with the wife... Which ones are under the usual £205ish

Second i have seen some 2.0 versions as well as the 2.5.. whats the story here? which is best?

Lastly i am really undecided by the colour... stunning white or that lovely grey? Please vote above.

After seeing your posts, I was sorta in the same position. I found an Urban Grey STI Limited (one of only 25), but it was sold the day before I could get to it! Fortunately the garage had a black one which I bought straight away!

It's a fantastic car - and what's better is that the wife loves it! It's similar to a Spec D, but has a tiny boot lip spoiler, no change in stereo, no sat-nav and a dark grey console to fit in better!

If you can find one.....they're great. You certainly don't get the attention, which will always be an advantage!

Or you could just buy a spec D and fit the a-line spoiler for £200 + painting and fitting. The only difference then is that the UK one has gold brembos and IMHO a better colour (Crystal Grey).

Even better, get the JDM a-line version... wish I had now I know better (if they did a 2.5ltr). The seats are nicer (I didn't get around to taking photos of mine this weekend mate). Do a google for "Sti a-line" and you will find the photos of this model. Then you basically get the spec D with the JDM engine that you seem to like.

Personally I think the 2.5ltr is better now I have driven both as there is more power throughout the engine and less lag and not just power in peaks like the 2.0ltr... but that is horses for courses.

Sadly I am no longer in a position to be spending 17k on a car.

I just found out today that the work pattern I accepted 4 months ago is becoming permanent. At the moment my wife is on maternity leave but she returns to work late March. My shift pattern means she is unable to return to her job and so the extra cash I have for the car is going to be spent on mortgage payments and bills. (should last 1 year).

On the up side to this she is looking at joining a course next week on becoming a child minder. Once registered we will have more money coming into the home than we do now.!!

So I might even get one of those odd looking ones without a boot.!! lol.

Staying positive!

I'll just need to buy a bugeye version for the time being..!

Look for a decent classic mate. It's always been either a classic or a hawkeye for me.

I reserve judgment on the hatch, so no comment there.
