I love this really cold weather, blue skies and no wind, I'd be happy for it to be like this every day of the year

My car loves it too

I didn't look at the temp gauge, but it took ages to de-ice the car this morning. Poured hot water over the windows only to return seconds later and it was solid ice!

Going to New York at the weekend, thinking thermals perhaps aren't a bad idea now!

Well, it wasn't boiling water, just hot out of the tap. I really need to get some de-icer, would make my life a bit easier....

Snazy. Ive been pouring hot water over the windowscreen for the last 10 years and never seen it crack. Remember to use hot water, not boiling water then use the window wipers straight away too

lol wives tale then eh.
Never done it though, would rather use either de icer, or let the car warm up. Or of course use the Mundano with quick clear screen lol.

Still shocks me the number of people that just dont bother at all, and try and drive blind.

It will feel nowhere near as cold in NY if its -3 vs -3 in the uk... as mentioned previously, different humidity level.
Just dont forget a hat (one that covers the ears) and gloves, as its the wind that will get you.

Don't bother - my de-icer ICED up this morning... I was spraying the screen and all that happened was that the frosted screen became clear ice!

Took me frapping ages to get the car ready this morning - I saw -7.5 at 11:30 last night and it was reading -6 in the car this morning.

God I miss my Calibra on days like this - the whacking big intercooler was amazing fun getting the charged air temp down.... <sigh>

Does anyone else remember the early 80's when they recorded temps below -20????

I was in Poland last year and it was -25c and that was COLD. I don't really get cold (I'm still wearinig a T-shirt and it is around freezing at the moment), but I understood where the phrase 'chilled to the bone' came from after being outside for a while when it is so cold and damp.

Brrrr... still cold thinking about it!

Yes I remember it well. January was the month and 1982 the year when the UKs lowest ever temperature was recorded: -27 in Braemar, Scotland. The same night saw Englands lowest temperature, -26 in Shropshire.

We had -21 or -23 (can't remember exactly which) in Burton where I lived at the time - the one thing I remember about it was how it hurt to breathe!

Pretty nasty floods in Lisbon overnight. 2 died when a car went into a swollen river, various low-level houses had sewage washing through them, a number of major underpasses closed due to 3ft of water, etc. Oh, and a sodding great hole in the pavement.

I remember doing my Sunday paper round in Cambridge back then - it was -18 deg C!

It was nothing compared with skiing at Aviemore a couple of years ago. The wind chill and very cold wet air was just deadly.
