Fried grasshoppers in Oaxaca Mexico. Very crunchy and dry starter with the added bonus that their legs get stuck between your teeth. Had a huge bowl of them staring at me all the way through dinner as the waiter didn't want to take them away.

I'm in Japan at the minute, and i generally love the food. Sushi and Sashimi are both lovely. Shabu-Shabu, Teppan-Yake etc all great. Offal done Teppan-Yake stye is not so good though.
There are a few funnys though i have come across this time.
Fish eyes, picked from a fish head with chopsticks i could not bring myself to eat, and how they eat Tofu i will never know.
In a seafood restaurant on the west side of the island last week, and decided to try one of the local delicacies which is crab.
The body is about 6" in diameter, and with the legs it's probably about 2 foot wide. They take a live crab, chuck it in the pot for 20 mins and then put it on your plate whole. You break the legs off and then in half and you can pull the meat out, which is lovely.
Once finished with the legs, you turn the body upside down and pull it from the shell. This leaves a 'soup' in the shell which is a bit of a delicacy, and you drink it directly from the shell.
I could tell there were a few bits and bobs, innards and guts in the soup, but still decided to try it. Had to spit it straight out. It's just pure seawater, slghtly fishy flavoured, but with a load of pure **** diluted into it.

Hmmm. Let's see now.
Fried silk worms (OK until you get one that isn't cooked properly - a bit squishy).
Dog (quite gristly - it was the dogs bollox though).
Live squid.
Curried fish head.

I remember as kid going into the kitchen to get a glass of squash. Being a lazy sod I didnt turn the light on. Picked up what I thought was the cordial and poured a decent measure into a glass and topped up with water. Turned around to walk out and took a large gulp only to realise Id actually poured in vegetable oil. Nice.

Worst one I ever saw was in a pub in Scotland frequented by local shipyard workers and matlows. It turned out to be a dare, but the guy did it and won about £100. It entailed his friend dropping his pants and curling one down into a half full pint glass. The beer was then consumed around said turd.

Several people were actually sick.
I've seen many people drink a pint of their own vomit on a night out. I think I should get some new friends.

Liver - it looks unsuspecting and like a nice bit of steak when it has a sauce on it but tastes revolting! The weird thing is that I like chicken liver pate
but not foie gras pate!
