Anyone who cant see there is a car in front or behind them in normal visibility in daylight really should not be on the road!

I drove down to Gatwick last week in misty conditions, cars with their rear fog lights on had a horrid red haze around them which meant you couldn't see past them, cars without their fog lights just looked normal and were far easier on the eye.

I would only ever use the rear fog light if broken down, or if visibility was a few yards, otherwise it just makes it worse for people following.

As for front fog lights, don't get me started!

i just dont understand... people use fogs when its not foggy....... y?

my old m8 turned them on all the time when he had his subaru, i asked him same question and he just fobbed me off believing he was right....

i think i have only ever used foglights twice in my life.... once afew years ago xmas day up the m6 where it was so foggy u could not even see anything; in fact it was so foggy that the foglights made it worse to drive cos the light was been reflected back cos of the fog so i turned them off

second time i crashed gf's saxo goin across snakepass (blackice on corner) and took 6 inches off the whole front end..... i only had a batman beam of light upwards with the fogs on.... driving home.... (luckily i drove all the way back from the resevior sheffield to manchester city centre without anyone stopping me at 1am )

As far as I can tell, the front fogs on my previous Focus and the ST I have now make no noticeable difference to the lighting as seen from the driving seat. My headlights are very bright and easily seen from the front of the car. This leads me to believe that the front fogs serve no purpose whatsoever! That said, as above, to get the rear fogs on you have to have the fronts on which really annoys me!

I don't mind using the rear as (rear) sidelights aren't that bright, the extra brightness helps the car to be seen from a distance. Rears should deffo be turned off as soon as you can see the following car to avoid dazzling them...which is just as bad as not seeing them in the first place!

Also, leaving your rear fogs on makes it harder for the following car to see your brake lights.
