My 2p worth....
I have had two 360's and got board with both. Not that I am saying the PS3 is better as I have yet to buy one.
As I understand it the rave reviews the PS3 got were because that is is techinically a better machine. Most of the comments I read relate to the straight comparison between the two consoles as they are now.
While watching Sky one saturday morning about 2 weeks ago i came across a review on gamer tv comparing the 360 to the PS3. I only stopped to watch it because i thought 'how old is this program?? they are comparing the two consoles that came out ages ago!'.
In fact the program was new and they were saying that in the next 6 months you are going to see the 360 fall way behind the PS3 in terms of graphics. Yes they are the same at the moment but that is only because the game creators did not go to town on using the power of the PS3. Top bods across the games industry seemed to agree that we are going to see some pretty impressive things coming out for the PS3 in the months ahead.
So which one do you choose.???
I reckon that both do appear to be the same in terms of graphics at the moment but with Blue Ray appearing to win the war. I think it will be a PS3 for me now.... (i bet i dont get time to play it though!)

I've got both and imho both are the same, live is better than PSN, ps3 is quieter than the 360. That's about it.
As above though the ps3 is technically superior and this will be demonstrated in the next year, the technology is over a year newer than the 360's.

lol no it isnt, the technology was designed at the same time they just had delays releasing it in europe. Do you think they were making tweaks to the hardware at that stage in the game

yeah, I'd go along with Bob there. Both developed roughly at the same time, but Sony held off releasing PS3 at the same time as Xbox360 so they could get the quality issues right and manufacturing yields on the Cell chip.

they do say the PS3 has a little bit up it's sleeve in terms of milking more performance out of it but that reamins to be seen. It had a much steeper learning curve for developers, and they're only now getting confident with the thing.
Saying that, I'm more of a fan of the Xbox360 design - something developers could get to grips wtth pretty quickly, with a more familiar development environment. It appears developers have to go that extra yard just to get the PS3 version of the game running the same as the Xbox360 version. If I were a developer, I'd prefer a system that I can get my code up and running quickly and with the least hassle.
It remains to be seen whether that extra complexity of PS3 development will be worth it.

So this means all 360 release dates will be put back 6months

Seems the PS3 is the one to go for going by this article..
although without reading it all I'd like to know a bit more about how COD4 is better online.

360 vs PS3: 4 Recent Multi-platform Examined
>> From gamepro.com:
GamePro examines four recent multi-platform titles (Assassin's Creed, Burnout Paradise, Call of Duty4, Devil May Cry 4) to determine which console has the better games--PS3 or Xbox 360. What we discovered challenges the common wisdom that "Xbox 360 is better."
While we can't definitively name one console as having better multi-platform releases across the board, there's a clear winner among these four games: PlayStation 3 beats the Xbox 360 handily. Call of Duty 4 plays nearly the same on both systems, differing only in superior online integration on PlayStation 3. With Devil May Cry 4, the game is all-around better on PlayStation 3 (despite the horrendous installation process). Burnout Paradise emerges as decidedly better on Sony's system thanks to EA Criterion's decision to make it the leading version of the game. The exact opposite is true for Assassin's Creed where Xbox 360 beats out its PlayStation 3 counterpart visually.
Judging by what we've seen with these recent games, you may be better off picking up PlayStation 3 versions of high-profile multi-platform games for the time being. The notion that PlayStation 3 ports are inherently inferior to Xbox 360 simply doesn't hold water these days. Some games do perform worse on Sony's console--Blacksite: Area 51 has been plagued with performance issues, for instance, and The Orange Box suffers from groan-inducing load times and chugging framerates.
These issues are slowly being addressed, though, as many publishers are starting to churn out multi-platform releases with an eye for the PlayStation 3. LucasArts recently announced an initiative to make the PS3 their leading platform for development, joining a growing wave of developers seeking to improve multi-platform games heading to Sony's console. With any luck, this movement will result in better performance for all gamers, Xbox 360 and PS3 alike. For now though, just enjoy fragging terrorists, crashing cars, and slicing demons in half on your PlayStation 3.

You could probably find an article for the exact opposite.
And why say for high profile games choose ps3 then in the next paragraph state how crap ps3 orange box* is?
I've not played ps3 burnout but personally can't fault the game engine/gfx on 360 both online/offline, same goes for COD, online 360 is faultless, as for DMC MS have been insistent on developers not using the HD so this could be it's hinderance
But like the review said it will all depend on which platform they choose to spend more development time optimizing/improving
Edited to Say, *Orange box was No.2 GOTY 2007

Liek I said lost of developers are finding that leading on PS3 is the way to go - Purely due to the ease of porting to 360.
However, this does not mean that PS3 is automatically the platform to go for, it just means that the multiplatform titles will be up to scratch.
It is the exclusives and the functionalility you want that should drive your decision, choosing with multi platform titles is splitting hairs.

Not trying to defend the article but there maybe a smidgeon of truth about Call Of Duty 4 being slightly better on PS3 - the boss of Infinity Ward (the developers) was quoted recently saying they put their top programming team onto the PS3 version, and he reckons it showed, compared to other versions. I've never played the XBox360 version so I couldn't say.

Orange box is cool, what ever platform it is on. end of.
Just traded my "launch Day" Xbox360 for an Elite, with some older games and boxed console (boxed = remote in bag unopened, all cables, manuals all sealed etc.) and it only cost me £107 from gamestation
Really interesting guys to talk to, gaming fans not just employees, even lent me a cable to transfer all data from old HD to new 120GB HD.
What really suprised me was when I went to Game first to see what deal they would offer, the chap behind the counter basically told me I was wasting my time and money on wanting an Elite as the only difference was the black casing. These so called experts who advise members of the public on what to buy, seem to have no idea on one console, let alone compairing differences.
Raised this with GameStation staff, who confirmed everything I have read on the Elite being uprated and confirmed that this was one of the newest. Asked about PS3 vs Xbox360 and his reply was the PS3 is the better console even thou he would not buy one at the moment due to lack of games, poor online experience. But would in a years time as they are the future of gaming.
So as I said earlier, it is down to personal preference. Try both and see what YOU like.
Personally im going to buy a PS3 when it offers what I want to see.
