I'll have to get to a dealer and see what options are and not but prefer the "Top spec"/"Sports Pack" version

I think you struck lucky with the dodgy gauge, John. You must have got at least £30 of free fuel and the gauge will be replaced under warranty! I must say that my working gauge is the most accurate of any car that I have owned. The low fuel warning light came on just below the 1/6 mark and as I said, it took £54 of 98RON (can't remember which make - Shell I think). I've since had the wife top it up but she went to Morrisons and put standard unleaded in - urh !
I was pleased to note the power folding wing mirrors - but why on earth don't they fold automatically when the ignition is switched off - you have to remember to push the button - and again when you start up. I was also peeved to find that the garage demo car had keyless entry but mine has the (undocumented) single button key (same as my Forester) and as there are no audible cues you have to watch the indicators flash to determine whether you are locking - one flash (1sec) or unlocking 1 flash (3secs) - or is it the other way round! Don't even ask me if I manage to open the other doors/tailgate everytime - nightmare. Gavin (salesman) had failed to programme the alarm to sound the warning "beeps" and I'm unsure whether this is possible. If anybody knows the code to activate the beeps please post here! I managed to activate the auto lock when switching on the ignition - tells you how in the alarm "manual". After having my previous Scoobie stolen at knifepoint (wife on her own in the car) - she insists on this being set. Oh - and what about the built in tracker - great for the insurance (but it still went up to over £350 over my Forester's £275 but they didn't know it had been remapped to 250bhp and 285lbft)
Along with most other owners, I'm still waiting for the STI mats and the exhaust trim. After driving during the night with those superb HID headlights, I decided not to bother with the fogs - anybody else expect to see them as standard after all the promo photos?
Don't anybody bother with the £210 bluetooth option - it sucks. Lousy audio quality at the other end. I actually sent a Parrott 3200 LS colour over to the garage to fit prior to picking up the car but was told that the connections on the radio/CD were incompatible (unlike every other Subaru model) - what a pain. I intend to get a TomTom at some point - maybe the bluetooth hands free built into some models wiil be better than Subaru's efforts!

Went to Livingston yesterday and the cruse control was a treat. Roads were admittedly quiet, which helped. The weather was terrible again, very strong crosswinds and driving rain, standing water on Motorway, and the Subaru still stuck like glue. Had the cruse control function on for most of the time and the fuel economy was great (went up by 2.8 MPG over the journey). I have driven many cars with cruse control and on many occasions but only in USA, which are long flat roads. Even so the RPM’s and speed seem to go up and down a lot. The cruse control in the Subaru is fantastic. Set it for 71 (road angel setting) on motorway and 51 on dual carriageway and it never deviated and this particular journey is very uneven.
Didn’t bother with Bluetooth. And I am still waiting on mats and front fogs.

Gavin phoned yesterday to inform me that they now have a new machine for programming the alarm and they now know how to switch on the "beeps". I'm over in Helensburgh so I will wait untl the end of the month when I hope the mats and exhaust trim will be in - and, to go back to the original subject of this thread, get the oil and filter changed. If you are closer let me know how it goes with the reprogramming!

Hi all,
Just a quick note, hate to say this but IIRC, having your alarm chirp when you arm/disarm is illegal under an EU directive. Often quoted on aftermarket alarms capable of chirping is: "If the siren chirps are enabled, the system no longer complies with European Law(95/56/EC)".
Dontcha just love being part of the EU...lol! :/

I'm guessing that you don't have an MY08 STI - if you did you, wouldn't give a hoot about the EU directives. To the best of my knowledge all Thatcham class 1 alarms have the "chirp"/"beep" or whatever you want to call it feature, it's obviously disabled by default in EU countries. I have every intention of getting it enabled so I know that I've locked the car. I could wax lyrical about the many EU failings but this is not the place!
I was merely trying to be helpful by posting the above information for the owners seeking chirpyness. If you actually read it properly, I included the words "hate to say this" and also the closing sarcastic phrase "Dontcha just love being part of the EU" even finished off by a saddened smiley "/". So before you go jumping all over my comments or suggesting I'm trying to discuss EU directives, I respectfully suggest you read them properly first.
For the record, I don't have an MY08 Sti, I have a MY07 Sti spec.D thanks all the same. I've decided (after some consideration) that the MY08 is not for my fleet. I also think you'll find that I don't particularly care for EU directives, but hey, it's nice to be aware of them.
Enjoy your bleeps and chirps, though what I'm saying is, don't be shocked IF the dealer can't or will not activate them.
You could always lock it and try the door handle as opposed to relying on the bleep and clunk (or three). I normally find that a fail safe method...lol!
Oh, and welcome to Scoobynet.

Yes mate , a new change for the MY08 . I had it done at 1K on my MY06 aswell like you say. But its different as of now , I asked the question on 1st March when the missus picked up her new MY08 and the dealer double checked and showed me the new schedule in black and white , so no doubt at all .

Yes the hazards do flash. There is one button on the MY08 Impreza key. When the car is locked one press opens driver’s door and the indicators flash three times. One more press at this stage opens all other doors and tailgate. When the car is not locked, one press closes all doors and the indicator stays constantly lit for about three seconds. The alarm will also be set at this stage. Some users were wondering about an additional audible beep that confirms the alarm is set.

The sound of the central locking i found to be quite noisy on the Impreza'a as well.
I don't think i've ever had a factory fitted alarm that does to an audible beep to be honest - only ever had it on a aftermarket one.

My wife had the STi in today to have the petrol gauge checked. I will have to take it back on Wed/Thur as there was too much petrol in the tank to do a proper check. She asked about reprogramming the alarm to have the audio “beeps”, they said they new nothing about the “new machine”. I will try to get hold of Gavin and ask him myself on Wed/Thur. I will also double check the situation with oil and filter change at 1000 miles.

Well John, I also have the single buttoned key for my MY08 STI and my indicators flash once to lock and once to unlock - the only difference is that the flash lasts 3 seconds when locking and 1 second when unlocking (I think it's that way round). I've already found the car unlocked when I thought I'd locked it hence the reason for getting the "chirps" enabled.
PS. My running in is seems to be taking ages now, with this problem of not knowing how much fuel I have. I have to keep the level as low as possible now so as the tank sensor can be replaced. Still the car is performing like a dream, even with the 4000-RPM limit (although I do stray over now and again).

[QUOTE=John Hughes;7726471] Have you noticed how close to the car you have to be to lock and unlock, about 6 feet.
My '54 Forester (now sold by Gavin) was particularly bad for the poor range of the remote. How glad I am to report that my MY08 STI does not suffer from this problem and I get a range of about 15 - 20 feet . John - try holding the key to your head when zapping and you will increase the range - honest!!

Fuel Sensor
Got the fuel sensor replaced today, hopefully that’s the problem solved (fuel level went from under quarter to over half full). Will top up tonight to make sure the gauge can go all the way up to full mark. Hardly done any mileage in last week due to this problem, so still running in. Fuel consumption figures also don’t compute (due to sensor), stuck at 23.7 for 8 days. STi mats for the MY08 are now in stock, so they are fitted and looking very smart indeed. Still waiting on front fogs.

Silly question for those that has a MY08.
I test drove one and the display in the centre console showed mpg. Can this be changed so you can get trip distance instead.
I tend to use this in my current WRX to work out range. Also, if you have a 300bhp car, mpg is low on the list of things you want to know. How many miles to the next refill matters more.

There are two trip counters (A & B) shown on the dash display along with the odometer and rev-beep setting. Each press of the instrument stalk toggles to the next display
The centre console display is fixed to show temp, fuel consumption and time. The fuel consumption is normally displayed for trip A, but trip B fuel consumption is displayed when trip B is selected on the dash!
Note: This is taken from a Euro car with litres/100km instead of mpg!

The engine management light was on constantly and the car had no power/boost. I was told that they had to go onto the computer to have the proper map activated.
I am 100% confident that no Impreza will have been thrashed in transportas its now impossible. So those of you who want to run in your new pride and joy do it with confidence that its not been cained before.
Pick my STi up on monday.. cant wait.
