Always make sure our dog goes in the back garden before we take him out - but also carry poop bags in case of any little accidents..
but your right - the amount of people who just leave it.. I trod in some only last week on the green outside our house.. was not impressed

I hate people who do that Snazy. At work recently (in a shop, no dogs allowed), someone brought his pooch in, it proceeded to pee all over, and when he was asked to take his dog out, he denied it even did it, even though it was seen. The mentality of some people leaves alot to be desired.

lol Tuvaaq has too. Difference is, he is uniformed, where others are undercover.
Tuvaaq's badge is on show ALL the time.
Lisa, seriously gets my goat. I dont like pickin the stuff up, but I like treading in it even less, so oblige.
Ginge, same ere mate, mine goes for pee on command in the garden, and usually has a clear out but long walks can equal more movements lol. Trusty bags in pockets at all times

Hey leave boxers out of this or I'll have to send my white retard round to have a word

This is one of a series of shots of her barking at a stick I think......... yes she really is that stupid. In fairness not a bad bone in her body - her brindle sister on the other hand is physcotic thanks to being attacked by a huge male boxer when she was younger, strangely enough she was on-lead and it was off it's lead
(Not having a pop at you, just people that know their dogs are physcos but let them off-lead and couldn't care less).
Heres the both of them in their usual vantage point surveying all that they own

Thanks for your views. Spoon, I know yours from before, and I think you're right and I'm wrong. At the same time I feel in the same position as someone who does 80mph down a straight deserted A-road at 1am keeping an eye out. Legally wrong but morally "it's not that bad surely". I don't let my dog wander round corners, don't let him more than 20-30m ahead of me (especially if there's a corner nearby), call him to heel or even put him on a lead if I see another dog. I call him away from other passers-by before he gets to them. And I bloody do carry a bag with me and pick up if he does it on the pavement (or chuck it under a hedge). That's more than can be said for 90% of the other dog-walkers around here.
I was thinking more last night, and as I said it's the third time this woman has lectured me. Then I remembered. Third time - dog off the lead, "should be on it". First time - dog off the lead, "should be on it". But the second time, I was walking up to her house and saw her about to open the gate so I called the dog back to me and put it on the lead. You know what? She then instructs me to stay there, 50m down the road away from her house, while she puts the car in, otherwise her dog is likely to run out towards mine.
BTW I had another occasion when I was standing outside another house with my dog, looking at something, and the guard dog (GS) opposite was going bananas at 9pm. The owner came out and complained that because I was standing there, their guard dog was going bananas, so please could I move. Logical, no?
I might pop down the police station tonight and have a word. I think it is the law that a dog should be on the lead in a public place, but I want to work out what's the definition of a public place. I normally let him run around the 4 empty acres of scrubland over the back of the hill - yet that's public too?

I can understand the frustrations with that one Brendan.
The more open and area, the easier it should be to exercise a dog, but sadly some people are irresponsible about it. Sounds like you try and make the best of a bad situation.
As you say at the end of the day the law is "lead in a public place" which is sad for the dog but neccesary for most.
With regards to a public place...
Its generally defined as a place with no physical means of enforcing access/egress. A place where a member of the general public can frequent without prior invite, or special means of access.

I walk my 4 cocker spaniels (2 male adults and 2 female pups) who are not what you would call big dogs. I take them up on the moors which are a 5 min drive from me, on the moors there are horses and sheep all "running" free. I dont put leads on the dogs here although i suppose it is a public area.
They dont bother the horses or sheep and will return to my whistle or by name. Most people that bring their dogs here are fairly well behaved - dogs included
- which is great as it means my dogs can get a proper run for a good hour daily.
The only problem here are the ******* that dump their household rubbish including GLASS there or, as i found this morning, a dirty smoker who had left a pile of at least 30 *** ends in a wee heap

I would suggest that she should tie her dog up before she opens the gates if she can't trust it to behave itself. It is her responsiblity to prevent her dog from chasing or attacking others.

These threads always go the same way ... mainly with Spoon telling everyone how great his dogs are and how they are never allowed off the lead.. then someone will argue and he'll claim they are irresponsible.
![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
I walk my dog without her lead when she's away from traffic... i.e the park.. and I put her back on when I see another dog.. as owners tend to be a bit intimidated by her. I also pick up her poo and put it in the bin.
I don't see how a big dog can get enough exercise on a lead ?
Thats not a question I'm looking to get answered by the way..
"edit: Not a dig at Spoon by the way.. just what happens"

I have electric gates on my driveway and despite the drive to the road being a fair distance I still pick my moment to drive out and not expect it to be the other way around. Again though, I can get mine to hit the deck on command and not move IF I'm watching them, otherwise they could be 200 yards away in no time!
However out my grounds, they go on a lead for reasons previously stated.
Tug, doesn't Reading have a pet shop?

lol lets not pick on Spoon now. After all a lot of wisdom is posted by Spoon. Sometimes we all disagree with each others methods, but its good to have people to ask questions from time to time.
There are plenty of ways of exercising a big dog on a lead. 50ft leads work a treat, as does running with your dog, like I do![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Sorry for answering that one, just felt compelled to![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
One thing that does annoy me a bit is the lack of secure dog exercise areas. Plenty of areas in the park, but none with fencing and a gate. That would help.
Speaking of parks, just been to my local park and watched 2 owners struggle to get their dogs back and on leads as they seemed suprised to see another dog there lol.

Definitely in Brendans case, Les. The woman sounds like a right bossy bítch in general.

I expect so - i dont need one. My garden backs onto fields and a river so i just let them run straight out. Its public but i chose dogs that dont care for other dogs or humans so they never bother anyone. I also dont have dogs with a natural instinct or ability to fight. People are in greater danger from the swans than my dogs.

If a dog came bounding up to a young child and scared it, let along attacked it then the parent has the legal right to knock out all the teeth of the dogs owner... It is so, and if it isnt so, it should be so.

If anybody else speaks the truth on a thread they know about, I respect that as it's their field. It's not difficult to see who types for types sake, even on threads wanting proper answers.
My view on dogs being off the lead in a public place doesn't have to be right, it's my view.

Don't give your dog the chance to run up to a child. I would never forgive myself if my dog knocked a child over. So my dog doesn't go need children, obviously unless I'm holding her and the childs parents are there.
A few people saying its no possible to control the dog completely and I agree, but if your careful both the dog, you and people around can enjoy the park !!

Pimmo, I've once mentioned the standard of my eldest dog on this thread purely for factual purposes. I could say a hell of a lot more but choose to remain private because that's me.

Pimmo, does no one else use the same park as you. Not saying you cant control your dog, but you certainly cant control the action of others.
Same story as speeding, you might be a great driver but you cant stop the idiot pulling out in front of you.
As a dog is not a human, nor respect people and humans the same way other humans do, personally I choose not to allow the odds to stack against me.
"Don't give your dog the chance to run up to a child."
How do you do this if and when your dog chooses to disobey you? Which even the best trained dogs do from time to time.
