Good point (sic) well made - with the amount of rain weve had of late its surprising a large stick would be able to penetrate the ground so readily, isnt it

Went to Vets, I have now taken her to their large premises about 20 miles away and left her there ..... in her 8 years she has never been away from us.

They are going to sedate her, put her on a drip and have a look down her throat/windpipe.

They will ring me tonight with the verdict

Dont be silly Ruddy, only PSL is allowed to be sarcastic, arrogant, self rightious or just plain pig headed when replying, not the other people on SN lol

Hope she is ok and home soon Pete, and they indeed find no need to treat her throat.

Hope it goes ok

Can't help but feel there are people here, who would relish Peter's dog been poorly, so they could then tell him "told you so". Very sad!

That would be just plain wrong if people were thinking that way.
I know what Pete means about losing his appettite

Just had a call from the Vets.

They have operated and removed some wood splinters from her windpipe .... some punctured the windpipe and there are some air bubbles in her chest cavity ....

She is on a drip and anti-biotics - hopefully an infection does not set in her chest or it gets really serious, thats what they say.

But, they are hopeful of a full recovery ....... thanks for all the well wishes above and as for those who just want to snipe - shame on you, it's a disgraceful way to act - even to pslewis!

Aw poor doggy That's not unlike what happened to my friend's dog. The main part of the stick came out but left some small pieces behind which couldn't be seen. Once they were removed and he'd been on a course of antibiotics he made a full recovery, let's hope your girl does the same

PSL dog saving account - I have dog nigerian german lovely; need account number for saving life. Please post help kindly below - bad neck no joke.

Acc 03679002
Sort 07 01 12
Bank OES International Nationwide Dog Bank

Half of you are soft enough to do so I think!!! So therefore I have substituted my own acc details instead. All proceeds will go to much nicer dog charities -' OES' (who need much less BS attention seeking and much more grooming )

Now grow up

She did drink a lot of lake water yesterday chasing my R/C SpeedBoat .. this was after the event!

I am taking her to the Vets at 5:20pm this evening ..... I want her to get some fluids in her - I don't think there is any piece of stick still in her windpipe as the stick was large in diameter and not one which splinters.

We have a dog toy with rope that we throw - but, for swimming in the lake we throw a stick in - she loves swimming.

She seems so sad for herself ...... and a man and his dog is a powerful bond. I'll keep you posted, it's a real shame that some posters had to be so rude ......
Glad you are going to the vet with here Pete, she does not sound right to me and it is worth having a proper check. Hopefully it is just a bit sore after the accident with no complications.

Might stop some of the childish trolling too!

Give her a pat for me

Les

Id only be concerned the dog might get an infection, best to get it checked for peace of mind other than that I cant see what else could be wrong.

edit, didnt read alot of the thread because of some of the idiotic posts but just scrolled up to see Petes last post.

Least poochy is in good hands now. Good luck

See....A sunday vet wouldn't have done anything. So at the very earliest the dog could have been sedated for a "proper" look would have been monday (depending on whats already on their list).

So all this dragging into the vets on a Sunday would have been in vain, as they wouldn't do anything until Monday anyway - when teh rest of the staff are there to help handle the sedation, inspection and operation.

Seem A&E at a human NHS hospital works on the same tact (unless your on the verg of croaking it)...just much longer waiting lists, a semi-stable human with throat splinters would probably have to wait 'til Tuesday or Wednesday!

Thanks for the best wishes (from most) ....... I have contacted the Vet, she is up and has eaten something this morning which is good.

There is still a big concern over the air in her chest - which is very serious apparently.

4 weeks of Anti-Biotics, few days of painkillers, go back in 48 hours time for check up ......... after watching her at home closely.

Pick her up tonight!

Good news and fingers crossed Pete

It is most certainly not your dog's fault you can be a twonk wth alarming regularity

BTW - to Shark Man,

Many vets will conduct operations at whatever time of night or day it is, especially if its critical. I, for one, would not use a vet unless I knew they had such facilities in house. At the very least I would no one who did, and make sure I was registered there.

Its only common sense to know what your vet can, and cannot do at any given time.

We had a 7 year old newfoundland who would have died of blood poisoning had the vet not undertaken an emergency hysterectomy(sp?) at 10.00 pm on a Sunday night. I know of a number of similar stories, including taking the inlaws dog to the vet for numerous stitches to a severe laceration to her front leg on Christmas day.

No one can accurately make a diagnosis by 'phone. Being there in person is the only way to know whether something can wait till the next working day or not.

Anyway, what matters is that she's (what's her name Pete?) ok. Lets hope she continues to make a strong recovery.
