Cheers .... her name is Lazer BTW ;-)

Was supposed to be Blaze .... then Blazer, but, by the time we got the puppy home Lazer had stuck as a more unusual name - cos I don't do anything the same as anyone else - and because I have a speech impediment and B's are hard to say whereas L's are easy!

pete im sure everyone wants the dog to recover fully, and with no further complications, and i can understand that some peoples comments may well be insensitive, but surely even you can see that your post was certain to bring about these comments, especially since you would not listen.
if you did not want any advice or comments rergarding your insensitivity to an animal suffering, then dont post.
it seems now you are looking for a sympathetic ear even though you did the wrong thing, wether the vet could or could not operate untill the morning is neither here nor there.
vets like doctors are there for a reason, they are the experts, not you or most others on this forum.
i have every sympathy for your dogs condition but none for the owner im afraid.

She is now laid in her bed in the lounge - she has scoffed 2 dinners down, had a long drink, had her pills and is sleeping .......... her breathing is steady and she looks much better.

Whether you agree with the action PSLewis took or not, lets leave the negative comments, shall we?

At the end of the day, the dog received the medical treatment needed, and is back home recuperating.

Pete has hopefully learnt the lesson not to throw sticks, and is a few £'s poorer for it (although he can afford it with all those lottery wins ).

Is this going in for joke of the month?

It's overflowing with irony considering it's Pete's thread!! Nobody honestly wants to see any harm to somebodys loved pet (Even though the picture isn't an 8 year old GSD, so might not even exist ), but come on, it's Lewis FFS!!

He's playing most of you for kippers!!

He'll be back soon with a post for the very same people to complain about.

Who said anything about anyone wanting to see harm to anyones loved pet? Thats just sick.

I prefer to give someone the benefit of the doubt when it comes to something like this, and not automatically assume that it is a warped attempt at a wind up..
I don't care if you think he is playing us for kippers - if it is a joke , then we are gullable, so what?

Thank God for that! It makes at least two of us who can maybe see the wood for the trees (or maybe I should say twigs ) .

It is worded as a wind up, IMHO, and hence my un-empathetic reaction. Just look at the language and obvious triggers for responses employed...

Have the clocks gone back, is it April the first again? Kippers anyone?

I apologise in that case ..... the pet rats ate the choccy drops

The dog normally eats the Tortoise food .... they had a shock that it was still there last night!

pete, glad you saw sense and took the poor pooch to the vet, and I hope a full recovery is made

I still stand by what I said though in the second post on this thread (nearly lost a dog myself a few weeks back so feelings were a bit high, luckily mine is but alright now)

Píssy, PM me the dogs bloodline and a recent picture then as you promised to do before and failed.

It has nothing to do with you not taking action quicker either, before the kippers start. It's Pissy Lewis we are talking about here, you know the Hans Christian Anderson of SN!!

Diesel, more kippers?

Hope she makes a full recovery, although I find it difficult to beleive this thread.

If you truly were a dog lover I don't beleive you would have left it so long to go to the vets.

The Mrs has had our dog to the vets twice already this year, once 'cos he had a sticky ***** (bacterial infection) and the second time as she found scabby lumps down his spine (exzema)<SP? both cleared within a couple days after following vets instructions and medication

On both occasions she got appointments the same day she noticed the problem, and wouldn't have dreamt of waiting in case conditions got worse.

The fact that you seem to think waiting was acceptable is beyond the pale, especially as your dog was obviously in pain/distress, enough for you to consider giving her pain medication.

As said earlier if true, hope a full recovery is made and you don't wait so long next time

Unbelievable...
Great care you took with the health of your pet there Pete. Giving it Paracetamol and thinking it'd be ok..
Get a grip man..
If I was actually speaking to you face to face, I'd say the same thing and if you refused to take the dog to the vet in the first instance I'd probably have taken it myself and reported you to the RSPCA or something.
No keyboard heroics required here. You have been a bit of a **** over the situation TBH.
Whether this post is seen as a "told you so" post some have mentioned above, I don't know, however it has sweet FA to do with "seeing one over on Pete" and being glad the dog is ill.. !! What a stupid ******* comment that was.
I hope there is NO ONE on here glad to see the dog is ill....
It's Pete I'm dam well seething at, for not engaging his brain enough to realise a vet needed calling the minute the dog was injured.
WHY Oh WHY did it take a page and a half of "being rude" as some have called it (I call it plain old common sense ) for you to get the grey matter working, even then though, it was too lack lustre.. calling them.. You should have taken the dam dog...... Oh I'm just ranting now.
I fear what I'm saying will go in one ear and out the other anyway..

Hope your dog gets better, you don't deserve it.

Do you think I care enough about what you think for me to scan in her bloodline?

If you do you are sadly suffering from a huge case of self importance .... I simply do not care what you believe - those that matter know different.

Her grandfather was the UK Champion one year, the year escapes me but he had a black spot on his tongue exactly the same as my old girl has.

Pete, a couple of questions for you. I only ask as depending upon your answers, it may put an end to some of the unkind comments being thrown about on this thread.

As this happened on a Sunday, was your vets, or a one nearby actually open for you to be able to take her to?

When you contacted your vet, if you had opted for the vet to come and see her/open the surgery to take her there, would it have been possible for them to actually sort her out on a Sunday night, or would it have just been a matter of her being checked over, and then you would have still had to bring her back on the Monday (which is when you did), to have the actual treatment?

Animals don't stop being ill just because the vets are closed.
If the dog was examined in the first instance, it *may* have shown it needed immediate treatment. They would have done what was necessary, end of.

Your questions are pointless, he didn't take her in, so he wouldn't know and could only guess as to whether they would have asked him to "come back Monday" or not.
Pete can only answer with yet more uneducated assumptions

Lisa

1. My vet was not open on Sunday - I rang the Emergency number (actually the wife did as I was lying with my dog watching her closely and listening to any sign of laboured breathing) .... the vet said that if the breathing was normal it is probably not an emergency. The vet said that they would open the surgery for an assessment, but they may say "come back Monday".

2. They would not operate on a Sunday if not an emergency, and the vet said that the signs were not life threatening. Please bring her in on Monday if we are still concerned.

3. First available appointment 5:20pm Monday at the local surgery - they sent us to their bigger branch which has x-ray machines and endoscopy equipment and kennelling .... not an emergency, but they did the job Monday evening.

I doubt that treatment would have been available any earlier had I acted Sunday night ....... but, I am not about to be judged by the ScoobyNet idiots - I did what I saw right for my dog.

It's easy to shout and be negative .... it's the same people who moan about everything else from petrol prices to education to policing to emission limits - but they do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about it except moan on here and put people down ........... I'm happy to ignore them if you are

I know full well animals don't stop being unwell due to a vets being closed.

I put questions to Pete to have some clarity.

You say if the dog had been examined in the first instance, immediate treatment may have been necessary. Fair enough, this is the reason I asked whether there was a vets actually open. If there wasn't one open, he couldn't have taken her to be examined in the 'first instance'.

He spoke to the vet, I was merely trying to find out, whether they would have been able to treat her on a Sunday night or not. As he had the conversation, he would be best able to know the answer to that.

No and I don't care either way except when somebody is known for being full of **** the smell doesn't fade easily.

You wouldn't need to scan anything in anyway, if the dog was anything it'd be in the pedigree database and only a name is required for me to see.

Oh and thousands of GSD's have black spots on their tongues.
