FAIL!! --> Energy Saving Day : E-Day : Leave It Off : 27-28 Feb 2008 ![Lol1](images/smilies/lol1.gif)
So what he's trying to say, despite them trying to fudge the figures during the day, they still failed ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

I actually blew a breaker last night

E-Day did not succeed in cutting the UK's electricity demand. The drop in temperature between Wed 27 Feb and Thurs 28 Feb days probably caused this, as a result of more lights and heating being left on than were originally predicted. The National Grid refined their assessments, based on actual weather data, during Thursday afternoon but I am afraid that E-Day did not achieve the scale of public awareness or participation needed to have a measurable effect. I will do my best to learn the relevant lessons for next time. Thank you to everyone who helped me or left something off specially as their contribution to E-Day, and this Leave It Off experiment. Please enjoy E-Day's solution, video and science sections which all worked well. Warmest regards, Matt

Corrected..
E-Day did not succeed in cutting the UK's electricity demand. The drop in seriousness between Wed 27 Feb and Thurs 28 Feb on Scoobynet probably caused this, as a result of more lights and heating being left on than were originally predicted beasuse some people thought it would be fun. The National Grid refined their assessments, based on actual weather data, during Thursday afternoon but I am afraid that E-Day did not achieve the scale of public awareness or participation needed to have a measurable effect. Acctually, it did have an effect, just in the wrong direction. I will do my best to learn the relevant lessons for next time and fugde the figures as much as possible. Thank you to everyone who helped me or left something on specially (perticularly high consumption items) as their contribution to this E-Day farce, and this Leave It On experiment. Please enjoy E-Day's solution, video and puseo-science sections which all worked well. Sweltering regards (need to turn the thermostat down now), Matt

Hmm, well, clothes need washing so thats the washing machine going on
Dishes need doing, so thats the dishwasher. Tea needs cooking, so thats the oven. Its a little cold so the heating will be on.
Good TV program, so that will be the AV amp and sub as well. Need to backup some files so that will be the network, computers, NAS drive and a few other odds and sods.
The garage light is out
There, I did think of some way to help out our dear tree huggers ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

The last few days have been positively mild - both at night and during the day, when compared with recent weeks.
You only have to read some of the comments, hidden so deeply in the BBC News website that you would think that they didn't want to spread the "bad" news (indeed the debate is now "closed") to realise that it is not just Scoobynet members that don't support feeble and pointless "green" gestures!
By the way, i wonder if "Matt Prescott, a scientist and long-time campaigner for low-energy lightbulbs" has any ulterior motives?

We've had one of the coldest, wettest "summers" in 40 odd years (Sydney, Australia). Don't see much hype in the media about it though, guess it doesn't fit in with "policy".
I recall seeing an article on stuff.co.nz a couple of years ago where a "weatherman" stated the weather was no more or less worse since 1941. It was removed from the site within hours.

There's no way that last night was colder and even if it was, then it would be the gas supply that took the brunt of it.
Expect some new taxes to change our usage. Because this whole thing is absolutely, without doubt, not a load of bollocks.
