Prince Harry - Bullet Magnet
#61
I think it is worth underlining that he wanted to join the Army in the first place because it appealed to him and not only that he desperately wanted to go to a war zone so that he could actually act like the soldier he was trained to be.
He most certainly did not go out to Afghanistan purely for personal glory as some here have inferred. Prince Andrew did not get any special treatment from the point of view of safety while he was hovering his helicopter to act as a decoy target for asm missiles aimed at his ship!

I mean, I can understand us using helicopters to drop chaff/flare whatever, but to actually use the whole helicopter as a decoy Talk about drawing the short straw. It going to be a hard sell to get people to go to the "how to be the best decoy helicopter you can" lessons!! Not like you can eject from our choppers either

I'm sure all the people throwing Ginger W@nker aspersions etc towards Prince Harry have no idea nor concept of how the British Military works, he is a junior officer first and foremost and will be treated no differently to another officer of the same rank, our junior officers are expected to lead from the front and that is where he was.
Was his uncle Andrew not hailed as a hero for his part during the falklands War. Though the press did not "leak" anything until after the conflict was over.

The lad can't win !
If he stays he's a coward, if he goes he is a protected publicity stunt.
FFS, he has proved himself more than most of us will ever do, I just spent a week in the States in a comfy hotel and I was bloody glad to get home, has he got to die or be paralysed before he gets any credit ?
He is the consummate British "Chap" as James May described him, daft as a brush, brave, enjoys a pint and likes the ladies, what's not to like ?
A lot of prejudice on here is based on the fact he is privileged, so what, doe he have to be poor and disadvantaged before anyone gives him the time of day, we generally hold our troops in high regard and hope for their safe return, but apparently not for one with a few quid and ginger hair !
I am no royalist but those two lads seem alright, just bear in mind they sh1te they have had to put up with all their lives, their mum being killed etc, they have turned out pretty well compared to the previous batch.

I called him a w@nker, and I was an officer in the military and am 99.9999% sure the whole thing was set up to enhance the royal family's position from reports via friends that are serving in Afghanistan now, and have seen the sham.

I'm not a Sun reader no, but I do belive in Occams Razor: The simplest answer is usually the most accurate. That is, Harry is an officer in the British army, he wanted to serve, that is no secret, he has often expressed a desire to see active duty. The only way he could serve was under secrecy, and when the story got leaked, he had to understandbly come out.

I'm not saying that the Royal family aren't without their faults - Prince Phillip is always good for a laugh - but everyone loves a conspiracy theory none more so than Al Fayed by the looks of some of his rants.
No amount of Royals deploying will divert anything away from the Diana Inquest.

I would feel a certain amount of shame for writing a post like that!

Any one serving or retired SHOULD understand the perils of deploying anywhere in situations like this.
I personally find it disgusting that anyone can be called any form of name for serving HIS country. At the end of the day Prince Harry IS a soldier end of!

As someone who has served themselves, surely you can appreciate that even if he does get extra protection, he is in a real war zone, and that carreis risks which are far greater than most of us have, and certainly more than his priveleged family have (that said, I don't believe I am in any danger from assasination, something which the Royals live with all the time).
You just don't like the Royals, do you?

All the lads in the HC like him (I know that as a fact), even though many were determined they wouldn't. By all accounts, he's a very good officer, and we're not shy of commenting when an officer is nothing more than a waste of rations. While those sitting in London might want to heap special attention on him, those soldiers under his command most certainly won't.
As per usual with these things - most of those criticising him are just a bunch of bloody ignorant civilians. Maybe the fact that he comes from a very privileged background and still wished to serve his country and shows great pride in doing so, has made those who are criticising him look at themselves and this is just a backlash for their own embarrassment at their short-comings as a British subject.

Begs the question, an officer in what exactly? One of these Officers who touched a rifle maybe twice in their career and never deployed as far as Salisbury Plain for fear of not having someone polish their barrack dress shoes for them every morning perhaps? Or just jealous you never got the chance to prove yourself?

I'm not even sorry, it had to be said.

I thought he came across pretty well in all his interviews, considering the last thing he prob wants to do is speak to the press anyway....
