Hello Anne

Bottom line (pun wasn't intended) is that I suppose unless you have the feelings and can understand the attraction it will never make sense.

Point of the thread though is a good one.Why the need to shout it when we are probably living in the most liberal times ever?

You're right, only a genuinely gay person can assure you that it's not just some trendy lifestyle choice or any other of the various "explanations" we've all heard before. They just are. But obviously very very few on here have ever had any meaningful conversations with gay people to confirm this fact. As for Stonewall, they need to re-think their approach, marketing like this is almost always counter-productive.

As the advert carries the tag line about school bullying i would imagine its aimed at that market. Hence the young terminology, "get over it".

I would imagine the liberal times dont help kids at 15/16 who (20 years ago) wouldn't dare "Come out" but now have to contend with gay people being all over TV and well liked by the public.....but still feel they would be exposed to homophobia at school.

Considering "adults" behave the way of this thread....i'm not surprised people worry about how the kids would act!

I think, on balance if I were a kid I would take my chances with a gay couple rather than someone who would make me go to church every week, I can get my head around same sex relationships but the whole religion thing ?

I don't think that many people on this thread have a real issue with gay people, some might not get it, or like it pushed in their face (so to speak) but I think most on this thread accept that its an individuals choice (I know some will argue its not a choice, but I'm sure some of the less open minded people here arn't quite as convinced of that!).

Stonewall are just fools though - all that sort of thing does is demand the reply of "and what do I care if they are?". In one hand it is claimed sexuality of a private concern of the individual and none of anyone elses business, on the other you get dumb billboards like this and gay pride marches?

If they insist on acting like they're special, then they're going to attract some mocking; if they don't want the mocking - stop running around like a bunch of limp wristed queens. Basically.

As it is, I'm quite proud of the fact that my sexuality, and those of the majority of the human population, is going to prevent the extinction of the species

Well said. Rubbing people up the wrong way and campaigning on non issues will rebound on these special interest groups.

Not sure what spirit the post was meant - but it was highly offensive.

To who? As far as I can tell, no one has ever proved if it comes about by how kids are raised, if its a medical condition or is something that's just 'ingrained' in a person's DNA structure.

I obviously believe it comes about from a different reason to you, that's just my opinion. Your entitled to yours. The irony of it is that telling me I'm highly offensive for not agreeing with what you believe, is actually highly offensive.

World would be a bit boring if we all agreed wouldn't it?

Yes - we can agree on that......and I HATE to be bored.

How we express our opinions is what can possibly lead to offense though - not whether the sentiment is agreed or not.

I dont think they are small minded mate - they just havent worked it out. Maybe they work on a building site all day and dont meet different enough people to see that actually, it is a pretty small and rather irrelevant issue.

Gut instinct is to dislike/distance/hate the different or 'out of your gang'. I say this fully knowing I was a bit homophobic as a teenager. So glad I grew a bit and got rid of that - but it did mean I had to meet quite a few poofs, and I found that they didnt actually have horns or ate children fo breakfast

Yes Les - many where I grew up had an inkling that individuals who were over 40, unmarried, and drove for a drink to other towns might be 'different'. You may call that being discreet, but to me it is the opposite extreme of a camp screaming queen. It is repression and we should not repress people that really wont harm you.

It HAD to move on and it has moved on. Dont think anyone is much worse off, and its a more honest world. Havent had an annoying screaming camp queen in my face in the past decade - doubt that you have either (unless you too drink in other towns)

A lot more people are straight, but they don't go about the streets for a week "celebrating" the fact. Yeah, get over it!

there's no need - look at the *** thread on here to see how you can shout about your heterosexuality anywhere you like.

I agree with you Diesel. No reason at all why people should not know about others being homosexual and nothing to make a fuss about. These days it is regarded in a very different light of course. I meant that by the same token it is not necessary to be shouting it up all over the place, no more than a heterosexual relationship.

I don't care what others' sexuality is, it is of no consquence as far as I am cincerned, and I just don't need to know either. I take a person as they are without worrying about that sort of thing. Same way as I feel about foreigners as a matter of fact.

I suppose homosexuality is only "wrong" if you are trying to conceive a child, as, correct me if I am wrong that those combinations have never worked, otherwise as with Hetero non procreative sex its just recreational.

It's a reaction to repression - not saying I'm mad for it either really, as some of it can be a bit hard to, err, swallow - but I think I know where it comes from.

Here in Sydney, the celebrations started in 1978. Isn't it time to give it a rest? What is happening now is white, hetrosexual, working males are being "repressed".

I believe there is reaserch being conducted which will, if successful, result in an egg which can be "fertilised" without a male.

There was a doco on tele recently where a lesbian couple were "deperate" for a baby. They approached one of their male friends who agreed to be a donor privided he was able to be in volved in the life of the resulting baby. A "contract" was drawn up, he made his "donation", the "woman" of the lesbian couple impregnated herself, and she fell pregnant. All was "happy happy joy joy" until the baby was born. The lesbian couple decided upon themselves to ignore the contract with the father, basically they changed their mind and didn't want him involved.

This sort of thing annoys me!! Talk about being selfish!

IIRC there was something similar that involved a Fireman. He was chased by the CSA.
