Thumbs up

You lot can't ever know how happy I am that someone has posted how BORING cooking is for one.

I've been saying it to my Mrs for ages, but she just accuses me of being lazy. She hardly ever eats with me as she's on a semi-permanent diet

And I didn't want to START the thread or she'd just accuse me of drumming up support

actually i will add a tip

as part of the weeks "cooking" on one day get a kebab from the takeaway, get some extra garlic sauce, and keep it in the fridge

add this to a tin of tuna and you can have garlic tuna on toast = proper posh nosh

Honestly though, you boys should start eating proper food. All that saturated fat in take-aways is clogging up your arteries!

And Delia is the mutt's nuts when it comes to normal, everyday cooking.

Cooking for one definitely isn't worth the hassle. Unless you're talking about a simple pasta sauce or something.

You should look upon it as a way to wind down with a glass of wine/beer whatever, when you get in.......not as a chore.

It's the washing up that puts me off.........but then I have a man who 'does'

Although ive not regressed into the take aways and fast food diet since splitting with my girlfriend i do struggle to get the motivation or inspiration that i had for cooking, i do enjoy it but i cant see the point in doing something special that no-one else will appreciate, also i find buying for one is hard enough these days, everything seems to be for 2 people at least, and im getting sick of pasta or jacket pots which seems to be all im eating

Stir-fries are quick and easy, you can buy the veg already prepped in bags, and the noodles and sauce. Just slice up a chicken breast/steak (they come ready prepped as well now) or prawns.........and Bob's yer aunty's husband!

when I was on my own and a sad git , I used to make an effort to cook at least 2-3 times a week something decent or else it was too easy to have microwave meals. Takeaways were too sad to contemplate, especially when ordering the set meal for one (you could almost hear the pity coming down the telephone line ) So I would make a huge pan of my infamous cilli con carne (it makes grown men cry ) and that would last for ages. Remove the beans out of a portion, thrown in a little bit of basil and you have a nice pasta bolognese. Chicken rice and peas is simple as well, especially if like me you have a rice cooker. After that, omeletes are pretty easy as well, especially if you want to use up any old stuff in the cupboards and fridge.
Best one is a spanish omelete. You can use up a shed load of stuff

Though now my girlfriend is a vege and hates onions, garlic, anything spicy, it feels like I cook for one anyway

When Mr OS went to Daytona back in November, he was shocked when he rang one night (Sunday, natch!) and I had cooked a roast chicken for one! It meant I could have the whole crispy chicken skin to myself, and I had plenty left to have with bubble and squeak and a curry for the next couple of days.

Fray Bentos pies. The single mans dinner.

Accompanied with (chilli) beans or a few frozen veggies if you want to pretend to be eating healthy.

I just fill the dish-washer up over the period of the week.

I'm thinking of going Morrisons as they are advertising legsof pork half price, that should last me about a week!

Bit of pasta, chicken breast on the george forman, cut up chicken and mix with pasta and sauce, two pieces of garlic ciabatta in the oven for 5 mins, put on plate, eat, sorted!

Followed by a cornetto or viennetta! mmmmmmmm.

Do this at least two nights a week, its cheap and easy to prepare!

Throw all the food out, drink the JD, chuck the Gin a cupboard and buy some tonic water next time you're shopping

I think that the off licence sells tonic. I'll take a look when I fetch some tinnies. Seem to recall seeing some frozen lime wedges in the freezer
