Diamond Head

Great band, and still going, and although they heavily influenced bands such as Metallica and got critical acclaim, they never reached the level of general popularity that most British metal bands of their period did.

I heard this on a compilation CD I have - they sounded really familiar but had no idea who they were when I heard it - sort of Oasis, Bon Jovi, Velvet Revolver, Guns N Rose's 'ish - called the Black Velvets

YouTube - THE BLACK VELVETS - 3345

Googled it to find they gave up after one album - bought the album of ebay for 99p and think they're pretty good.

Probably well known around N England I'd guess.

How about Elbow - never heard of them till Jonathon Ross last week - now waiting for their new album later this month - they've been around for quite some time though and have at least 3 albums

YouTube - Elbow - Grounds For Divorce on Jonathan Ross

It depends on what you think of as big, really.

For me, The Stone Roses had it all and wasted it due to **** management and could have been huge worldwide.

Their 1st album is the one I'd take to the desert island if I were sent.

The Cadbury's Gorilla should've been big. Shame he vanished after covering the Phil Collins song Although rumour has it that he'll be appearing on Never Mind The Buzzcocks in the line-up

Cool

The Popguns - Brighton based band I saw supporting Neds at the Event in March 1991. Saw them a few more times in Brighton and London and still listen to their cds frequently.

It Bites were reasonably big in their (original) day

Francis Dunnery is still going strong, and brilliant live both solo and with his band, It Bits are still touring I believe but without frank

Electribe 101 for me.

I saw them when they were the support act for Depeche Mode's violator tour in the early 90's. Totally blew me away, went out the next day and bought their album (only album) and played it till it nearly wore away .

Band split due to management disagreements. Lead singer Billie Ray Martin (not Billie Ray Cyrus ) went her own way and had a little success.

I still play the album today .

Wolfie.

Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes. Still going but never quite made it out of the massive shadow of Bruce Springsteen, who came out of Asbury Park at the same time (and has written lots of stuff for them).

Thoroughly recommend thier stuff to anyone.

This lot are reasonably big in Holland, but sing in English mostly, so you never know. Lead singer is hot too, in a girl next door sort of way
