Though oddly I don't think we will see him do a thing.
I'd quite like to show these little lefty fools just how "aggressive" the British Military can be.. but I guess that would be playing into their hands.

The government most certainly SHOULD do something about it though.

The snub was delivered at a students' union meeting which condemned the "British military" for waging "an aggressive war overseas".

why resist your opinion is just as worthwhile as anybodies.

Students proving how pathetic they can be it's not like they armed forces force people to join them.

Why would anyone want to wear whatever uniform they wear at work out of work?

I've worn both RAF and police uniforms and wouldn't want or dare wear them out of work due to looking a tw@t! Particularly in police guise. It's was bad enough getting asked where XXXXXXXXXXXXXX was every two mins as it was, and the RAF uniform was like wearing 1970s catalogue crap.

Work stays in work and always has/should.

Ok you asked for it, i'd get your missus to wake you up after 5 mins as this may be a little boring.

We have for a long time lived in a country that delights in the news of our armed forces doing well, (remember the post Falklands celebrations) however doesn't want to concern itself with the everyday sight of seeing the military. This isn't a new thing as can be seen in the poem written by Rudyard Kipling called "Tommy".

The public (granted not all) view of the military is of people who do a job for the country that they wouldn't really want to see or be concerned with.
The actions of the NIMBYs around Headley Court after the local residents protested against the purchase of a house (by SSAFA) for the use of the families of wounded service men, to visit their loved ones under going rehab there bears testament to this.

The scum you see abusing servicemen in Pete-bog-horror will probably be the same as those that throw rocks at the fire service, turn over ambulances for the drugs on board etc etc. They can't identify with us, as they haven't ever been in a situation to rely on us (as many of the older generations have), or been part of a group that fosters ideas and ideals that the Military hold dear.

We are alien to them and as such a threat because we are different.

and after such a soft post, i'd still like to get a four tonner at each end of the street and go door to door ala in the province, but that wont win hearts and minds.

Pretty shocking, but sadly no real surpise

I expect it probably was local scum as well, and not immigrants - as most of them are probably over in Iraq or Afghanistan fighting UK/US forces, and the remainder probably don't know any other English phrases other than "incapacity benefit" and "free legal aid"

Indeed.

Awful, cheap uniform. Do they still use those trousers that rub the front of the thigh that stops the hair growth?

I left 5 years ago (thankfully ) but bet the crap they kit you out in is still the same.

I'd be interested to know who is doing the abusing.

Is it the New Labour underclass, the Muslims, or other Eastern European immigrants, or a combination of all three?

It would be useful to know....

I'm guessing a mixture of chav and muslim.

Eastern Europeans are too busy working to be bothered by it, and it has no effect on them.

The uniform is worse, seems to be getting thinner every year, probably costs less to buy but get through twice as much. I have the best philosphy with military clothing wear it till it's dirty then exchange it for new stuff theres nothing better tan wasting military resources (they should pay me more ).

The reason I don't wear my uniform (C95 - which looks a good deal better than the RAF uniform even if I do say so myself) is because of potential hassle from wannabe jihadis or looney lefty liberals who don't know ****.

The fact is that if I want/need to pop into town in my lunch break/directly after work, I should be able to do so without any aggression/hassle from the idiot section of society - but I don't think any of us can. Which is why you don't see many of us in uniform unless we're hard pressed.

Anyhow, the Army has always been far more cautious of us heading out in our uniform than the RAF due to the fact that many more of us have served in NI. Gordon and his buddies can say what the hell they like - we're still not that keen on making ourselves targets.

The threat against us is really no longer Irish republicans, but British muslims who wish to support the "stuggle" abroad. As someone who has recently had two muslim colleagues, one of whom's family doesn't even know he is in the British Army, to the other who went to massive lengths to cover his military connections - I know the threat against British servicemen by supposedly "British" muslims is out there.

And this is now the major reason I don't, and will not, wear my uniform in public. Old brownie boy can thank his stupid multi-cultural Britain for that now.
I heardon the radio from one of the soilders invoved it was mainly from the "muslim community" god bless multi cultiral Britain hey

In some areas of this country I wouldn't blame our servicemen for wanting to wear full military body armour and carry a sa80 rifle.

I thought the RAF uniform to be perfectly comfortable to wear and also smart. It also represents a great tradition since 1918 and I was proud to wear it. I would have deliberately worn it in Peterborough when I was stationed near there to show solidarity against these misguided fools.

I wonder how you can get to work if you live off the station without wearing it anyway.

Maybe it would be better to march like this...... on siting offensive muslims or chavs give the order to "FIX BAYONETS" and if receiving abuse.... then another order should be given...

"CHARGE...."

A quick boost for morale, and the added bonus of scumbag removal from our streets

In the first place it is very inconvenient to have to do that when you have to get to work at sometimes very unsociable hours, and secondly it is quite difficult at times to get on to the station in civvies even with an ID card without a longish delay. Thirdly, why the hell shouldn't I wear it in the face of these loonies? Who do they think they are anyway!

Flight suits don't count Les

I saw the thing on the cover of one of the newspapers about the female pilot who was awarded the DFC and how she was proud to walk around London in her flight suit.

Now I know, and you know, that bloody aircrew never take their flight suits off

What station did you work at where it was hard to get on wearing civvies ? How do the civvies who work there get in ? I work unsociable shifts at my station but i'd still rather where my own clothes than my RAF uniform i've never had a problem getting onto a station with civives you must work at Buckingham Palace or something

I don't think anyone is questioning your personal choice BooSH, but should we have to consciously remove our uniform before going out in public because it might end up in us getting verbally abused?

If I was so inclined I think I should be able to wear my uniform where-ever and when-ever I wanted really, even though thats not something I would personally choose to do.

It would be nice if I wore it out and people simply didn't take any notice of it at all really.

It was noticeable that for some reason, when civilian contractors turned up to do some work, they would show a piece of paper and be allowed on immediately without supervision!.

If however you arrived with an ID in civvies then you had to park the car-go to the RAF police window and go through all the business of where you were going and what for. If you were in uniform with your ID you would be let through the main gate without any further bother. And even on a flying suit too. When you are on an early start in particular, all that palaver is a pain, especially trying to get into the Op's Block since they don't like civvies in there at all! I hope that is sufficient explanation for you, I do have a bit of experience over the years!

Personally, as I said before, I would not be prepared to let these lefty loonies chase me off the streets if i am in uniform-who the hell do they think they are?

Les

Yes I have to agree with you there, but I don't think I would bother about wearing the flying suit on the streets of London, but have had to walk around in uniform there in the past.

She did well to get that DFC, respect!

Total non-story. So where are these victims of abuse then?

Just another opportunity for all the racist ***** to come out and complain.

Does anyone believe that people in the armed forces are going to take abuse on the street? Total codswallop.

Would you like me to bring them to your house for you to interview them?? maybe ascertain the level of abuse they have suffered

We have to take the abuse, as if we live in a civilized society that doesn't allow for vigilante justice to prevail, and if we were to retaliate we would be castigated for infringing on someones human rights.
