Gas guzzlers set to face £950 tax
#62
I was quite pleased when I found an MY00 Classic with low mileage on a 51 plate 4 years back. This means it is classified as 239g on the V5 and road tax is based on this rather than engine size. As I emigrate to France next year, whether I keep the car or not I'm unlikely to suffer. The move is a quality of life one rather than a career one, and each day I spend here now with this oppressive regime in power is one more day happily crossed off the calendar.
I'm starting to think that literally everything New Labour does/says winds me up. And I remember my Mum telling me we mellow with age.

Need I say I told you so to all the b*stards who weren't in Band G yesterday & now have a problem the net is closing in on all of you/us
TX.
Edit - how about we (Scoob owners) all take the Govt to court for effecting the residuals of our cars. Fairly easy to work out the damage/loss as it's the drop in value of our cars overnight & there must be 000's of owners on here so if we split the bill it should not cost too much either?

Have just quickly scanned through this document................FFS is it meant to be a budget statement or an Al Gore funded green propaganda booklet??
Several things made me chuckle though:
........................'efficiency, value for money and delivery' - sorry but I just cannot associate these terms with the arseholes in govt.
......................'Low-carbon life' - WTF is that supposed to mean, do they not realise that carbon is life??
.......................... on air passenger duty........'ensure air travel pays external costs that its activities impose on society' - err not very specific there, Darling.
.................................The King review makes a recommendation 'that colour coded tax dics are introduced' - well whoopy fcukin doo. How much did mr taxpayer pay for that gem?
I am sure there are dozens more. Come on SN let's make sure these idiots get voted out at the earliest opportunity.
For all the people with Classics that are currently not included in the revised VEDs...........................your turn will come. How the **** can they be allowed to keep making these rises apply to ever earlier registered cars!!!
The extra cost does not really give me a problem but as ethanrob, among others say, what about the OAP who cannot afford to change his 'gas guzzler' that does 1000 miles per year?? These pr**ks in Downing Street make my blood boil.
Broon, Darling.............

Am I right in saying then, a WRX registered 01/09/2005 @ 219 g/km will be £210 this year rising to £300 in 2009 and then £310 in 2010?

judging by that it looks like cars registered after march 01 with more than 225g/kg will have £100 rise on top of their yearly price now so will be £310 in 2009/2010 and cars after march 06 will be £400

Yes, that is what I was saying for the 2008/09 year. But for the 2009/10 year there are bands A-M (Right?!?).
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be right...But I can't work it out any other way that next year it will be £300?

According to this web site
CO2 Emissions Data
My car which is a 2003 STI type UK has a co2 level of 265g/km
So that means I will probably be paying £430 ++++

Just looked at the table again, at the moment my car 05 WRX is band F £210, next year it becomes band K £300.
Surely this is illegal , how can you just up tax by as much as that without any consultation. How would this stand in European courts?

cars between 185 and 225 any year band f
cars over 225 and reg'd after 23/3/06 band g
does this make any sense
the way i see it band g cars are getting bummed
