Where this all wrong;
Say you owned or were to buy a "high CO2" vehicle, say 400mg, polished it washed it and only drove it at weekends say 80 miles ?
Is this worse than a "low CO2" vehicle say 200mg that does 500 miles per week ?????
We are taxed via the pump for miles driven, why not hit us with the 2p but back right off on the tax, this punishes those who do lots of miles not those who have big engines..
I do not want the 2p, but it is inevitable !

I just don't get it what has March 2001 got to do with anything .
Example 1: Beautiful Impreza P1, registered pre March 2001 = £200 per year in 2010.
Example 2: Beautiful Impreza P1, registered post March 2001 = £455 per year in 2010.
How about a nice R34 Skyline registered before March 2001 = £200 tax.
I can see this devaluing many cars but on the other side increasing the value of others.
Like I've said I just don't get it.

Still £185 to tax my planet destroying decat 1999 Legacy B4 even though it wasn't registered until 2002. Got to love the no CO2 data for imports thing. I suspect Pajeros will become more popular.

Perhaps he's referring to the Golf R32....
R32 shouldn't be up there, they stopped making them way before 2001 and in any case they are imports with no equivalent EU model, so the CO2 data isn't available.

I'll tell you what they are at.
The theory is, if you drive a car older than 2001, you clearly can't afford to pay any more than you do. If you drive a car newer than 2001, you must be loaded, so you can pay up. If you're even thinking about buying a new car, you must be mega rich, and can afford whatever they want you to pay.
It's no good them asking people who drive really old bangers to pay any more tax, as they don't tend to bother taxing the damn things anyway, unless they are so old as to be tax exempt. Tax exempt cars can do what they like, so our old '57 350 Chevrolet is going back on the road!

the best laugh is that an old bently with a 6 litre v12 pays nothing. you're telling me that this does not kick out more co2 than an sti. saying that a 2003 wrx tuned to 350hp will only pay 300 a year. as always this government takes from the people who make something of themselves and want to drive nice cars. wonder who payes for the tax on planes co2s? oh we do

FWIW, there's a LOT of very unhappy people on RS246.com.... The S4, RS4 & RS6 post march 2001 are going up an awful lot
Mine's pre-2001 and will "only" go up to £200. The bigger issue isn't the running cost incurred with VED. It's the £kkkk removed wiped off the value of your car due to this legislation
There is however, (as some have probably started to twig) a plus side. The used market for cars from Mar 01 onwards is going to bomb. I have no doubt in my mind about that (although I'll be gladly proven wrong!).
For cars PRE March 01, the future's looking a little bit better, as the performance models will (hopefully) become a little bit more desirable over their newer versions........
One other point of interest was on that Parkers thing...... I obviously had a look at my Audi, Wifey's 306 GTi6 (both go up to £200). Porsches.....not very good news. Big-engined BMWs, not good news....
Even a Ford Focus Rs - no good.
But, look at the Ferrari 355 F1.....
So, a regular family hatch is more expensive to tax than an Italian supercar

Politicians (and the public at large for not thinking) are retarded. The only reason this has been put into place is that it guarantees the government money - surely they are worried that with the price of petrol on the forecourts rising so fast, people will have to curb their petrol spend, so tax from forecourts will not increase in line with the increase in petrol prices, and thus missing their taxation targets, so they have to find another way to guarantee extra money (at least in the short term).
I've been saying for years that road tax is completely wrong and should be scrapped and tax should go up on petrol instead so that people who use a lot are the ones that pay.
This stupid new budget will cripple some.
Imagine the 75 year old who's had their car since the 70's and just uses it once a week to go shopping and pick up their pension - they will be screwed. What might they have to consider? Buy a tiny new car! But buying a new car is the green equivalent of an oil tanker spill - the amount of natural resources involved is vast. The planet is much better off if the person keeps their old car. All these people that think they are being green by selling their 16 month old Jeep that does 20mg and buying a brand new Lexus 4x4 petrol/electric that does 35mpg are actually raping the planet. By buying our old Classics and stuff we are being green OMG I'm ranting. Sorry.
While I'm at it, can I mention how retarded stamp duty is? Instead of being like income tax where the higher 40% only gets applied to the income above the limit, the higher rate stamp duty gets applied to the whole lot, so selling a house at 1p more than the limit could cost you £1000s. Moving the limit didn't fool anyone Mr Brown. Stop me. Please. heheh.
So I hear you ask... Why aren't I in charge? Because unlike the majority of politicians, I'm not crooked and don't have the aspirations of power that you need to succeed in politics. Sweeping statements FTW!!!

I think its time you guys consider buying uk FQ evos 8 and 9. The vast majority of these have been registered as plg, even though they are all post 2001. Nice cheap £185 this year and only £200 next.

agree whole heartly with antera....theres a big incentive these days for kids to get pregnant as youngsters themselves...they get money on a plate and provided a house and a lot of bills paid for them while the rest of us poor soda have to work our nads off to pay for them.
ive heard a rite few say they wont work as it costs them money so why should they...wish i could say that!!!
mayb if the road tax all went on the roads, as it was supposed to, instead of approx only 25% of revenue bein reinvested in the road infrastructure then we would have less congestion as we could have better roads.....less congestion = lower pollution!!!! bet it wouldnt result in lower tax tho!!!
Another query....when super unleaded is cleaner and less polluting why does it not have an added incentive to buy it such as reducing the price of it....again a further "green" method that wouldnt charge the poor motorist more!!!
but sure its the motorist that stumps up for everythin....fines...taxes....etc etc
more and more of a joke!
