Is that clear enough for you ?

Crap tyres (v cheapo ones that I had no say in fitting as it was a works van) and slightly damp road) speed was not excessive for that road.
Its amazing though, rolled said van, all 3 crappy tyres burst, the spare dunlop fitted to the rear was in one piece and not even deflated!
Shows you that budget tyres aint that good

One prior to that was due to a numpty blocking the motorway on a blind brow, motorway was 2 lanes at that time (M60 near pc world stockport) I had seen said young toyota driver prior to this as i passed him in the astra i was using at the time, (it was about 2am and id just finished a job up in leigh) passed him at 65mph, wet conditions, drizzle, said young driver then floored it passed me and slowed down again (muppet) and i kept going at 65mph, got to the M56 junction and an audi quattro comes on, kid then goes flying (100+ mph) after said car, 5 or so miles later i meet him on the bridge by PC world, he's spun out in the right hand lane and some guy in a vectra is parked in the left hand lane, none of them out of their cars cos its raining and slowing traffic.
I hit the vectra up the **** at about 50mph, (car had no abs) didnt deploy the airbag, couldnt have gone into the outside lane as idiot would have died if I hit im side on, I then got out (they were STILL sitting in their cars, and stopped (by about 3ft) the next car (volvo estate) from hitting the back of the astra i had been driving.
I (again) called the police who turned up in an unmarked police car, even the copper said this wasnt my fault and put the blame on the other 2 drivers, 1. for stopping in the road, effectively blocking the motorway, 2. for not slowing traffic or reporting the accident to the police.
Outcome was said 18 year old kid with his girlfriend.... no ill add this bit first
Police man was on his last night of 5, in the first 4 he had a quiet week, this night he had a drunk driver and now the kid who was uninsured, guess where they spent the night? yup you got it, the cells
I suffered badly bruised ribs but recovery guy puts car on back of truck and asks where its going, I point to the vauxhall dealer just over the road and said "there because its their courtesy car", he said "not a problem, we are just behind there anyway"
Company settled on a 50/50 claim and I was not happy because it wasnt my fault that the motorway was blocked and no one was out stopping traffic, though I did give the cops my side of the story including how I saw the lad go chasing after the audi.
Hope he copped it big style for not having insurance, though highways agency tried pinning the crash barrier on me, took several attempts at explaining that I hit the car in the left hand lane and stayed in that lane and that the uninsured driver hit the barrier, no way was I going to fork out 1k per meter of barrier that I didnt hit!!!

Tony

PS, van was in for brake recall but it was the same one that crashed in the first paragraph

Doesn't prove anything of the sort I'm afraid.

My insurance premiums and PROVEN track record suggest otherwise. Never mind, some people just cannot be persuaded with actual facts. Are you related to Al Gore?

Proven what? You haven't said whether the shunts were your fault or not.

And I've only claimed on my insurance twice - since the others were at fault, I dealt with them directly where required.

But you set me thinking about what is proof of good value for insurance [apart from a company that gets the documentation right, takes the correct amount of money on the agreed day each month and has a reputation for paying out promptly and fairly if and when required!].

Is it on the basis of £x per £1,000 of the perceived or agreed value of the vehicles or, for enthusiasts/petrolheads should it be £y per BHP? For others it might be £z per 1,000 miles which certainly might have been the case for me in the days when I used to cover 50K annually.

Anybody with any thoughts on this?

Human error (the other driver's of course) - but excessive speed made the resulting accident much worse.
