You mean like the damp track on 5th gear? Seemed to be plenty of wet/damp bends there.
Also I'm willing to bet that a DSG equipped Golf would kick the *** of many Subaru drivers in the traffic light GP, simply because many people are cr@p drivers.
There are also plenty of FWD hot hatches you can tune to around 330bhp with similar modifications. I'd imagine though you'd be better doing map/induction and upgrading braking if you wanted to embarrass Impreza drivers properly.

Sorry I also substitute 4WD for delicate throttle control....
I keep it floored everywhere even in the wet
My pal James chopped his WRX in for a TDI Seat Ibiza.. re-mapped to 350 lb.ft. and it's really quick, but only in bone dry conditions.
After six years I still look for an excuse to go and drive mine, love the grip, love the sound, hate the econo-box wannabies....
IMHO

Not been on for ages and cant believe that people are still arguing this. People are buying the modern hatches as they are better cars than the wrx and some of them better than the STI. I dont have the VXR anymore, sold it at stage 3, 300bhp last november as needed money for upcoming wedding, miss it loads. Was not bothered when i sold either of my scoobs. Dont get me wrong they are not bad cars, and i can understand that this is a subaru forum so things will be biased. However when it comes down to it the major argument here seems to be over the weather. Its winter now and its a bad week and its only rained in my area once, so imo the wet thing is a turd argument. 6 out of the 7 seven days the subauru would get mullered.

Personally I drive a car with 4 driven wheels but I'm aware there is likely more fun to be had with the cheaper RWD variant.

I had to sell my 02 sti prodrive uk300 because at the time i just bought a house and hady baby on the way.The car was kicking out about 350bhp and only getting 17mpg so had to go.I ended up getting an focus st2 coz at the time i worked for ford and got a good trade in. The focus was good for a while but with big wheelspin in low gears and no loud burble and for some reason felt uneasy with just fwd putting 225bhp through front wheels only compared to the awd of the impreza. So after only 3.5k on the clock of my ford i spotted an 06 wrx hawkeye only 4.5k on the clock, not as quick as my previous scoob but something about these cars i love.I think it comes from the handling, grip, power and sound also the love of rallying.

As much as it guts me the wife has the car all week and i drive an 07 new tranny van. This has some magic ford traction contrrrrol which i think used to be called esp. It kills power to stop understerr etc etc. I turned it off the other day in the wet as you do. W T F!!!! That van is like a shiny turn on a brand new porcelain bowl in the wet. Here's to the AWD prowess

Didn't they restrict the amount of torque on the focus rs in 1st and 2nd gears. Wonder why a muti billion dollar car company would do this. The guys on here with there advance throttle control know best though.

the rs is an old car now the games moved on, more power, more intelligent electronics etc. You havent driven one have you.

All my cars and i'll list em which is a sad order to be fair were fwd before my first sub! MK3 then MK4 escort, saxo ha ah ah ah ha then 206. I do really want shooting but they all suffered the same pain, front tyre wear and understeer. Now i know the sub is renowned for understeer in the wet but if you're brave ......

I doubt that the focus st 3 has moved on in term of traction control, diffs from the focus rs. I have driven a focus rs and it's a great car with plenty of grip. Correct me if I'm wrong it's a better drivers car than the newer st.

Ok mate i've been driving them 4 whole years now and that still hasn't happened touch wood, but before you tap away on your keyboard i'm obviously driving slow. always to the speed limit me son. Back in my van on tuesday. And i'll keep it switched firmly on!

For me the reason I love scoobs is that no matter what I've done to them or how I drive them they DON'T BREAK.
Regardless of mods or driving style you can rely on them, they sound good (although the 06STi I have is a little quiet as std) and go well.
I struggled to think of a car that could do everything that the scoob could do, have the same winter weather ability, etc.

Amusing read... there must be a lot of hot hatch drivers on here...
We always seem to compare the modern hot hatches with the classic scoob too... why? I'm a ****e driver yet have easily out paced a new Golf GTi and an Astra VXR in my STi before I had it remapped. I prefer to race cars with half a chance now...
I've never owned a hatch but coming from and Astra Coupe Turbo and then a 350z into the scoob, I have to say the scoob is simply the quickest real road car in all weathers... the 350z was arguably the most fun mind you.

why come here then, just to spread the unhappiness, is it their/your duty to tell scoob owners how bad their car apparantly is. THIS IS A SCOOB FORUM! TELL SOMEONE WHO GIVES A ***

The tide has turned against scoobs on here, just as at work the ex owners have suddenly gone cold. The ex owners at work had remortgaged themselves to the hilt to buy the latest sti's and now have had to sell them because they are in debt to ****. Now they all of a sudden hate anything subaru
hmmmmm let's do a cross reference of scooby haters and recently for sale subarus at cut prices in the for sale section

If you 'don't give a ***' then why bother commenting?
Turd King: did it ever occur to you ex Subaru owners have moved onto other things? I think it probably has.

I hate a lot of things people are doing to their so called 'Scoobys'these days, particularly so the manner in which some of these halfwit owners tend to drive them on the public roads
and fyi,I have an 07 STi for sale(and not on finance)and my mortgage was paid off several years ago

I have a 04 Sti and a 06 Focus ST3 in the driveway, for the day to day driving I would prefer the ST. While the Sti is incredible fast the turbo lag is unbelivable, resulting in the constant changing of gears. If I wanted to overtake a car in the ST I could leave it in 6th and the car would pick up, if I done that in the Sti it feels like I am driving a 1.4 unless I drop a gear to 5th or even 4th. The Sti has a higher limit when it comes to cornering but it wallows the same as the ST. The modding costs for extra BHP as also very similar and I know both the cars could achieve 350 BHP very easily.
Each car has it's merits. For speed and comfort it would be the ST every time. For a weekend spin on the welsh A & B roads I'd be picking up the Sti's keys.
