Nothing he said was a surprise, I think everyone is aware that Subaru have softened the new STI (in some part due to input from Solberg so it can't be all bad?), they have always had a recent tendancy to understeer so nothing new there and you need a delicate touch to feel the dccd differences I presume, something Tiff appears to have lost judging by his antics in the STI and the Mini.

What's the obsession with front fog lights? Think I drove once this last year in fog and managed without them in my current car, last STI generation didn't have them either...

He wore a big grin in Sport Sharpe... and said it's less track focused - all good stuff for me so I won't be cancelling my order based on his review lol.

Tom Ford summed it up nicely, nothing touches it for under 25 grand, taking a family in it and getting to 60 in under 5 seconds, nice one.

As for prefering a Classic, well, I want a new car not something that was designed over 15 years or so ago and is hardly a piece of automotive art itself (not with standing it's performance credentials of course), even if that Escort Cossie did beat the new Focus.

He seemed to enjoy sliding it in the dry

Did I recognise some of the lines from the front end of the Impreza in the side view of the new Fiesta ?

I found the new STI very pleasant to drive, but not enough to want to borrow enough to buy one...

Oh well ! AST's should sort it....

Does anyone actually own a Subaru because it's an attractive car to look at... (with the odd exception) get real and buy an Alfa Brera if that's the case. I've ordered one because it's different, drives well, goes like stink, is practical and mainly because I want it. A 10 plus year old classic is of no use to me what so ever, sorry.

Yep Tiff is a 'bender', Vicky is a useless munter and so it seems is the new Impreza.

25K for a car that will be worth 17 max after it's first year on the road as well as looking like that and performing poorly. You'd have to be insane.........

Probably insane but again that's no different to the previous model or in fact most 'new' cars... buy a Mini if you want to lose little money in the first year or two of ownership. I've got the money thanks so frankly I don't care about the depreciation.

Can't wait for the new 300bhp fwd focus rs test on fifth gear. The dual will be against a 500+ lambo vs the focus. I think the focus will shade it, just.

Best part of the programme was the cossie v the RS. I'd like to see them have a head to head with the new Impreza and a classic typeR too.

Thought it was a bloody good programme, mostly AFFORDABLE performance car reviews, not some permed twerp mincing around an Autobahn in a £400,000 playboy plaything.

Next Monday at 8pm will be worse without it, I know they are not perfect reviewers but it is at least something, we are not exactly swamped with car review programmes on telly.

Can't be too limited otherwise I wouldn't earn the cash in the first place, oh and the company pays me 600 quid a month to buy and run a car of my choosing... I could drive an economical Audi diesel but got no interest in those either.

Sadly I'm beyond money saving... WRX, Evo VIII, Cayman S, RS Clio 197, Outback... not one has proved a sound investment in the last 4 years so not sure why I should make a solid financial decision this time, definately a heart purchase and not a head purchase.

Back to the original post! The new scoob did not get a good review on Fifth gear, Which puzzles me as it had a pretty good review in Jap Performance mag How could Tiff not tell he had 300bhp under his right foot????????? 10 years ago that would have been supercar figures!

Still don't like the shape so far but will leave it till i see one in the flesh before i will commit with a JDM Spec

This isn't the first review to comment to the lack of shove or feeling that it's a 300hp/ps car, I guess as you smooth out the delivery you loose the mighty shove in the seat of the earlier models? Plus if it's lost its characteristic burble you won't get the same sense of speed from the exhaust note either. I was only sedate on my test drives and never driven the previous model STI's for a comparison.

I’ve been looking at your threads over the last couple of months. You seem to have it in for the new Sti. But as Mr Shakespeare would put it, “methinks thou dost protest too much”. We’ve found you out – get out that closet and buy a MY08 Sti, you know you want to.

If it was designed to look like a Rover 25/Proton/Focus/Mazda 3/BMW 1 Series hybrid then surely they should have made it a million times better to drive in all areas, seems like they have fooked that bit up too.

Yes, I know this is entirely based on what Tiff says but to be fair he knows his stuff.

I'd say that the new STi is a great car for anyone who has never owned an Sti before this, Hawkeye, Blobeye, Classic etc. However, it seems its a huge let down for anyone that has previously owned or driven a Scooby.

Maybe simply the costs?

Either way, they missed a trick by not delivering something like it ..... IMO
probably one of your best posts

Yes, I know this is entirely based on what Tiff says but to be fair he knows his stuff.
No he doesn't, he has a complete lack of respect for any car he tests. Without fail every "test" he does is a showboating exercise to prove he's still man enough to sling a car sideways round a circuit.
Fair enough, it's entertaining but it's hardly what you'd call an unbiased road test is it. I'd much rather someone else carried out a road test than seeing Tiff sling it sideways yet again round a slippery race track.
How about a Tiff vs Plato challenge new Sti vs Hawkeye Sti?
Maybe the new Sti isn't great , maybe it is but i'm not relying on Needles for the definitive answer
