I signed this as well and the title was laid out as following:

------

We received a petition asking:

"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Reduce the rate of fuel duty."

Details of Petition:

"fuel duty now accounts for 50.35p in every litre. on top of this is the actual production and costs of the product and then on top is 14p of VAT. Public transport will never be adequate to provide for all journeys that need to be made. Please reduce the amount of this duty as it is penalising working Britian! it does not encourage industry and will not encourage people to use their vehicles less. Using a car is now considered essential for most people especially those who do not live in cities. This tax is purely a source of funding for the government and does not represent the true cost of transport. On top of this each car must have a road tax, yet again another source of government funding."

-------

I think this somes up our stance perfectly... without it becoming an uneducated bout of name calling that will win no favours with many people.

Maybe a bit of underhanded backdated tax needs to be mentioned.

Also if you check out their links to previous epetitions they are still not answering why we have a much higher fuel duty than most other countries!

How about "Two jags? I can't afford to run one!"

Just read that e-petition response:
Even after these changes duty rates in 2009 will still be 11% lower, in real terms (i.e. by making an appropriate adjustment to discount for inflation), than they were in 1999 - equivalent to a 7 pence per litre real reduction - and at the time of the Budget the real cost of motoring was still 13% lower than in 1999.

It remains the case that the retail price of fuel at the pump is ultimately a matter for retailers and their suppliers, and fuel duty is just one of a range of factors which determine the price paid by the motorist.
Really? 13% lower? Whoever they've got doing the sums was clearly schooled by New labour in one of their flagship schools because I've got no other idea on how they managed to work this one out. I'd love to see the Maths involved.

How's this for a slogan?
"Fuel prices will drive Labour out of government"

What a cheeky reply Are they doing anything to keep the price of fuel down? Nothing AFAIK.

Sounds daft, but have you spoken to the police? Its in our rights to protest, so they cant say no. We might even get a police subaru escort???
Just found this on Your Rights: The Liberty Guide to Human Rights........ this artical also looked interesting. http://www.foe.co.uk/resource/how_to...rotest_law.pdf

• Right to Peaceful Assembly – Article 11
• Right to Freedom of Expression - Article 10
• Right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion – Article 9
• Right to respect for private and family life – Article 8

It forbids any public body, such as the police and local government, from acting in ways that conflict with the principles set out in the Convention.

It enables demonstrators to use the courts, in principle, to challenge decisions that would restrict protest; and might enable them to mount defences to non-violent criminal offences connected with political protest.

It is important to remember that the Convention does not give a trump card to political protest – especially at a time when concerns over safety and security are a prime concern of Government. The rights of individuals to assemble together and express themselves freely are only two of a series of rights set out in the Convention that deserve to be considered and weighed against each other.

Why don't you just come to terms with the fact that fuel prices are very unlikely to come down. The proportion of duty paid to the price of a litre is unlikely to be reduced either.

Stop moaning, and stop trying to make futile gestures to a government that has no intention of making fuel prices cheaper. The price today is likely to be the lowest price you will pay in the rest of your lifetime.

So get used to it.

Just in case you missed it. Got Sunday Times and apparently Mr Tony Blair's expense claim forms have been shredded so we don't get to see exactly what he spent our money on.

They get into government only to serve them selves get a nice salary (for doing pretty much jack all day). They get some of their family and friends on the books to do jack all day. They then get expenses to pay for second homes, etc while they do next to nothing but attend a few meetings while the civil servants carry out their wishes. Luckily they lost the appeal so we can see what 'some' of them do.

Then worse they then make millions selling biographies, after dinner speeches, etc of their time doing nothing but helping to tax us more.

I guess I'm just jealous ....

What's happening with this protest ...

Dont get me wrong I'm fully supportive of this protest (one of the first to sign up) but the message we give out has to hold some weight. To say they do nothing is a load of bolx it's well known that PMs generally get only 4-5 hours a day rest and have virtually no private time. Don't get me wrong "some" do get into politics to serve themselves but they are on both sides of the house.

To see if Blair had much stress check out the pictures of his ten years in power ..... FK ME THAT MAN AGED BAAAAD.

MP's get paid a pretty shoddy wage to be honest, expenses are good and you can hire your wife to do the books. But as far as I can see most of them work very hard indeed.

Anyway, whats the date and place of this protest?

Its still on mate dont worry. just had a load to do over the last fortnight.

I'm hoping at least half the people signed turn up then it will be enough of an impact.

With regards to the protest i will be contacting the Met next week with regards to an official protest. The forms you have to fill in for a protest are different to the ones if you want to protest near the Houses Of Parliment.

What i do need is a bit of help with this.

if anyone has any sort of organizing skills of something of this magnitude then please feel free to come forward it will be very much appreciated.

Im not going get into a big debate about this (note when I say 'nothing' is a figure of speech relating to the effectiveness of their work while in office) as I have actually worked in many civil service departments and directly with the consultants that advise the government on various policies. The Ministry of Justice, HMRC, Ministry of Defense, etc.

You can be under stress for doing nothing much too (except attending meetings and endless debates and I'm not talking about the house of clowns or rather commons). Do you believe the government actually come up with good ideas?...

Which average politicians regularly do not get more than 4-5 hours please name them, which average politicians does not have a private life name them. Whats their working week (actual work), holiday entitlement, pay including expenses and benefits.

Hint go look it up and you will be shocked at actually how well off, well sleeped, etc they are.

Yes I know Maggie didn't sleep well and oh yes what a lot of grey hairs Tony 'bend over for bush' Blair has got. The cabinet will get more pressure but read up on what I just said. Hence why I quote the amount of taxes we all pay but not always realise.....

It is amazing how corrupting politics can become you go in for good intentions then other things 'fame, money, influence take over' <-- We are all human doesn't mean we should accept it (or rather all the forms of taxing) though.

Oh dear - it's rant time!

My feeling on the matter is that they've screwed this country up so badly in general now that I'd vote in someone who had no policies over letting this bunch of useless *******s run another consecutive term in office.

Despite what the Maggie bashers keep saying they need to shut up and realise that Maggie was in power over 15 years ago and the world has moved on - many of the problems we're seeing now are a direct result of Labour policy.

We can't blame them for everything, but I certainly hold them responsible for failing to address (or completely screwing up what was actually fine) pensions, rising crime (I laugh at their stats), prisons, tying the hands of the police with red tape (thank you Cherie Blair for your influence there), the NHS and how it's become infested with pen-pushers and bureaucrats when it should be full of nurses and doctors, uncontrolled mass-immigration and failure to address benefit fraud, encouraging borrowing and getting us into trillions of pounds of debt, destroying respect and family values, taking us to a war we wanted no part in, and implementing a regime of political correctness where we constantly live in fear of being accused of being racist, sexist or upsetting some minority. Oh and being taxed out of our own country so they can buy new kitchens at £7k a pop!

I could go on but do I really need to? There's only so much they can lay at the feet of the conservatives.

Labour have had 10 years to put what they thought was wrong - right, and they've done nothing but screw Britain up IMO.

I remember when the people of this little island had real things to worry about rather than upsetting some waste of space for flying an "offensive" flag (like the jolly roger) or being told you couldn't wear a religious symbol.

What the hell have they done to our country! PLEASE DEAR GOD DON'T VOTE THEM IN EVER AGAIN...

What the hell have they done to our country! PLEASE DEAR GOD DON'T VOTE THEM IN EVER AGAIN...

Labour have very little control over the world oil price .....

You must ask yourself what another administration would do differently - certainly, the other options are not standing up and saying what needs to be done.

By all means, chuck them out, but please don't think their replacements will be any better ..... we will be shouting for them to be voted out in 10 years time - and so it goes on, throughout history.
