South Mimms is bang on the M25/A1(M) junction and has a v.large carpark would prob be a spot on place!

At the weekend you're just going to hold up people on their way to their summer holidays and lose public support, on an Monday morning you'll hold up people going to work and cost the country a fortune.

If I'd spent all year looking forward to my holiday and a bunch of petrolheads held me up for hours, I'd be pretty p*ssed off, and I support the cause.

Then what do you suggest we do to make people notice?

Thing is a lot of people just roll over and let it happen, as much good as it will do me i've wrote to 2 councillors and my local MP, nothing may come of it but at least i've had a go.

I'll stick my neck out here and say this, If nothing is done and we just roll over and die, we will be a nation of supermini drivers within 5 years - and you can quote me on that.

Like I said chief - I'll attend whenever the protest is.

Whilst this is more about making a point, I do see what Paul3446 is saying though - this government is only motivated by money, and businesses will lose more money if we do this on a business day than a weekend. Businesses will b*tch at the government if they lose money.

Ultimately I'm assuming it's going to be decided by who can turn up, and when as it's numbers we need! Whatever happens I'm in - down with Gordon!

Its gonna be a Saturday mate, as there is mor echance of people turning up as its not a work day (for many)

South Mimms services is looking a good prospect at the moment.
I'll see what a few others think but it is looking like we'll be ending up there.

Thanks for your support

The way I see it, you can make a point by filling in petitions, writing letters, holding a protest, whatever.

But unless you cause real chaos and start hitting the government in their pocket, nothing will change.

Don't get me wrong, I think The Chief is doing a great job here, but we need to ask what we are trying to achieve, if it is a reduction in these prices then we need to cause chaos like the truckers did a few years ago. If we just want our voice to be heard and then things carry on as normal, then a weekend protest will get a bit of air time on the news and bring attention to the cause, but nothing will change.

As a bit of a reference point, prices were 84p a litre when the last fuel protest took place, afterwards they dropped to 68p a litre. Prices are now between 107 - 120p a litre!

I think this should be a first of many protests. Get the ball rolling as it were with the 1st one being on a Saturday.

I agree with your points, i'm not sure causing chaos is the way forward. The last thing i want is for the public to turn against us but even if nothing comes of it a bit of airtime can only be a good thing and for me voicing our dissaproval its worth doing.

Would love hauliers, taxi's, couriers to get on board as well.

1) Firstly I have already voted to come along.
2) It's a ripple effect there are most likely hundreds of thousands thinking the same but won't move until they see others.
3) It will make the government think before they raise more taxes, fuel and road tax as they will see people not putting up with it.
4) We must have a suggestion as to "what" we want changed and why (If cameras come there and ask we could look silly if we just say we just want to protest") SO maybe the slogan of 1p on fuel but reduce road tax....
5) Do not ever underestimate the power of one person making a protest or standing up for what they believe. To quote a few Jesus, Nelson Mandela, gandy, Martin Luther King, Mary Whitehouse (Not all her stuff I thought was right), etc, etc. If 200 do it and they raise road tax again (and we get it on TV) I guarantee you it will be thousands next time.

I thought I should balance this out with those "nothing will happen" yes it will at the worse they will think next time before rising it anymore ....

If you don't support things like this please do not complain when more taxes are raised, etc just sit back and say "...give it to me big time...".

Like I keep saying like a broken record. The average man pays at least 50% of what he/she earns to the government man!!!! Have a think about that.....

I agree that the 1st one needs to be on a Saturday when there is a chance of more turning up.We need as many as possible to turn up on this occasion, not only will it make more people aware but if they see people are prepared to do something about it then they may well attend the next time - which could then be held during the week.

Totally agree with the principle of the above point but I disagree with the message. Tax is a single hit penalising you for your choice of vehicle (we choose to run powerfull fuel drinking cars so that is the penalty we pay-you'll get fk all sympathy from the general public). Fuel is a tax on useage regardless of vehicle so lorries / my missus' 1.25ltr fiesta doesn't matter what we are all paying more and more and more tax whilst at the same time not being given a choice in alternative transport (unless you live in a major city and even then not always a viable option).

I think the message should be cut fuel tax by 10p hopefully you'll get a drop of 2-3p at most but even that would be something and hopefully stem the current rate of increase. This could be wrapped up in the message of credit crunch and the affect the fuel rises are having on the general working population etc etc etc - The other part of this is the disguise of "green" policies. By changing the tax brackets to include older cars what are they asking for ... that these cars will come out of circulation ?? as we all know the manufacture of new cars creates far more co2 than the difference in running a green or non green vehicle.

Sorry to go on but I do think all the "anti brown" it is a bit of a waste of time as everyone seems to have similar policies towards drivers or even worse. What you really need is for another party to take up the cause of supporting the driver ...and lets be fair there is a fking few of us so you'd have thought it would be a vote worth canvassing.

I'll add the names today guys.

Ok appreciate i'd just like to say i really, really appreciated all the support that we are getting.

I take it most of you are up for a run down the M1 towards London.

What i need is ideas of where we can actually end the protest - something of motoring significance, i originally thought the Ace Cafe in London but apparently it only holds 50 cars or so.

So come on chuck some ideas at me. and i'll go with the best one.

Thanks again.

How about outside red ken offices????

Have you put this on pistonheads, i feel it needs a wider polluting audience of cars

1. No - as we'd have to pay a congestion charge and the thieving git will be laughing all the way to the bank

2. I put it in the news section but tbh the response was not that positive.
Might be an idea to put it in general

Stick it in the section where everyone is discussing the RACs latest news, I'm sure there will be backers in there !!!

And if there is no charge I think we should clog up the streets of london !!!

So, a lot of people will be buying petrol to protest about the price of petrol. Am I the only one to think that is a shot in the foot for the protesters?

That's like killing people to protest about the gun laws, or setting your beagles on foxes to express your opposition to the hunting ban.

People, you need to get used to the fact that
1 - the earth's resources are finite;
2 - taxes are an inevitable source of income for the government;
3 - car ownership and use are becoming unsustainable; and
4 - if you really want to hurt the government, do something illegal.

Driving around London in a haphazard, disorderly bunch will achieve nothing or, at best, very little.
