Dsmith, alex has hit the nail on the head, you could apply your argument to cd and dvd, but if that was the case all cd players and dvd players would simply read what i on the disk but they dont.

Funnily enough, I have worked on some optical amplifiers for use in amplifying optical signals for optic fibres run across the atlantic, the point being they can amplify an optical signal without converting them back to electronic signals amplifying them then converting back again. It is all very far off, but will revolutionise the electronics industry some day.

Cant emphasize cables enough too. My hifi cabling alone must be in the region of £1000 but at £50 a time you dont notice it so much and each one makes such a difference.

Diminishing returns applies.

Have to agree with gavin on the T2 collectors edition.

I will also say Go with B&W over the missions. I ahve heard them back to back and although I dont use either (Miller and Kreisel for my cinema) the B & Ws came off as superior.

please also treat everything that hifi mags say with exreme scepticism. Having spoken with several journalists in car and home audio, it is becoming apparent to me that their loyalties lie with who pays them the most in advertising revenue. Richer sounds staff also tend to be young kids in need of jobs pushing the products that they carry the most stock of, as a result I wont shop there.

Jerry, gald you are on board too.

I am in the process of modifying my loft into a cinema. Because of its shape, this is the only thing i can use it for. A lot of the wiring has already been done. I think the only choices i have are rear & front projectors, which is the best one?

Tal,

The DVD player just sends the audio signal down the single
co-axial (or dodgy optical ) cable.

The amp decodes the signal and separates the signal into 6.1.

Thanks

Gavin

Skip the plasma, you need a projector mate.

Would take the total just over £1000, but I would go for the KEF speaker kit above the Mission. Fraction of the size, look far better and blow the missions away (when I heard them anyway).
