Not one person where I live, has made any mention about the noise my car used to make, decat down pipe and magnex, and the considerably more noise, now with the Nur Spec R.

Admittedly my car doesn't get used very often early in the day, but on the rare occasion that I have to use it to go to work, I leave between 6.30-6.45am.

I've never used the bung for road use though.

Maybe we've just got tolerant neighbours.

On a more helpful note.

I had a UK 01MY WRX PPP with full 2.5'' decat and Prodrive rear box.

My partner leaves for work at 7am. When she takes my car, her morning alarm goes off, and she gets up and ready without waking me. She woke me when she started old my car!

I live in a cul-de-sac of 13 houses, had the 01MY for nearly 7 years and no complaints.

Never had a problem where I live.
Thankfully my old Astra was louder, but I have courier who live over the road who drives a diesel escort. Takes about half an hour to start and when it does it sounds like spanners in a tumble dryer.
There are four motorbikes, one ac cobra, several BM V8's and large number of 4x4's. Never had a problem.

HOWEVER.....how dare you let your dog bark at 3.30pm!!!!!!

That makes front page news!!!

If there complaining about it waking them up its probaby not the old duffers.

I live in an area where me and the wife are the youngest in the street, our closest neighbour is 62, and nearly all my neighbours are already up and awake at 6am!

Been told today that complaints about excessive noise between 7.30am and 11pm can be upheld by the council and fines etc dished out accordingly !

Anyone know if that's true ?

If it is,I will just leave for work at 7.30am and make as much noise as possible

Unfortunately noise abatement orders are a favorite of a lot of councils (easier to investigate a home/car owner that the tossers of no fixed abode, doing the real damage in society, as usual.. ).

However, night time noise (which has tighter regulations) is between 11pm-7am.

Take a look hear, you might want to re-think some of the suggestions mentioned in this thread..!

Respect - Members - Noise abatement notices

Send a letter to all you neighbours, as NS04 suggested. Just hope it doesn't act as a catalyst for more of them to complain..!

If you have alternative transport, use it for a few weeks until it, hopefully dies down, or fit a bung..

These days this could turn into a right can of worms if your not careful..

Now why antagonise the situation?Someone has tried to imply that(without confrontation)your car is too loud and causing them some personal misery.

I haven't read every post post, but care to tell us exactly which exhaust you have?

You know as well as I do that some are outrageously loud.

That's just how the moaning tw*ts have made me feel !

I have GT Spec Gen II headers with Hayward&Scott system.

By the way,a guy up the road has a little Saxo and it's had no rear box on it for about 9 months,it's far louder than my car

Then quite probably you have an excessively loud exhaust fitted.

If it were me I'd fit a quieter system and diffuse the situation, nothing worse than neighbour disputes

..born and bred in Cheltenham myself,so know the area you refer to...not the best eh?

If you know the area then you'll know what I mean when I say the following.

Why should I spend a fortune fitting a quiter exhaust which may also effect the performance when I have to put up with cars constantly parking infront of my garage blocking access, cars boxing in my ST24 so I cannot move it,cars parking on corners/junctions so I cannot even get into the road, untaxed and very possibly un-insured cars everywhere, drug dealers operating from nearby houses which the council/police seem to ignore etc ??

There's more I have to put up with but that just gives you an idea !

Unfortunately not,can't afford it

I'm really pi**ed off about it actually, with all the problems we have round here it'll probably be me that gets in trouble with the council !

Maybe I should just do what everyone else does, drive an untaxed, uninsured, unregistered car and give up work. That way if I did ever get in trouble, they wouldn't bother with me as i'd have no money to pay a fine

Or just buy a bung and use it when you leave, then when you get to the next road, pull it out. I always use my bung if I'm leaving early. Takes 2 secs to screw in, even less to pull it out

Hayward and scott will provide you with one for about £30, it's hardly a price to keep the peace?

But I don't want to be doing that every morning, five days a week.

If I was only leaving early once or twice then I would do it.

The only reason i'm pi**ed off about it is for the reasons I posted above.

It's not exactly a nice quiet area

Fair enough, but I use mine most nights when dropping the missus home.. I really don't find it a hassle or an inconvenience. Maybe consider it, or buy one, and see how easy it is to use. I love the noise of my scoob, full 3" decat, ported headers, and blitz nur spec R. My neighbours have NEVER complained, or even hinted at it, but out of respect I wouldn't want to wake someone up. However during the day... forget it lol.

I know someone with a Blitz Nur spec R and it's way louder than my car. I've wanted one for a while so maybe i'll get one fitted now just to give them reason to complain !

I bought a H&S jap style 5" specifically to upset my neighbours.

In the end it was me that gave in first as it drove me bonkers on long runs.

340 bhp-wrx

I'm with you on this one. I live in a canny area in a row of terraced houses. For years me and the mrs have been putting up with the kids next door banging endlessly with their football against the wall in the evenings or banging their basketball against the backboard for hours on end - forever knocking on the door - can a ha me ball back mister? (you get the picture). They park in front of my house, not illegal i know but also not very neighbourly.

So now i have an afterburner middle section and back box, am i concerned that i finish nightshift at 0645hrs and leave for dayshift at 0600hrs no, not at all. Because all the years that we've had to put up with their un-neighbourliness and never complained its now our/my turn!

Its live and let live. You bought that car for a reason and you love driving it and the sound of it so dont change a thing.

The only way that i would change me zorst is if it was illegally loud, anything else, police, council, neighbours tell em to **** off.

if u do need a quick fix mate all u need is the end of a coke bottle three pegs woods best, u can play around with how much and wich bottles suit your exhaust best end were to cut. when u have sorted that out insert in to your exhaust lid end first apply pegs. DIY bung.

Then u should have a pritty good reduction in noise u can take it off really easy as soon as u get out off your street...

All this talk of Bungs can anyone suggest where i might purchase one.
Im doing a track day at croft on the 25th May and there is a 98 db noise limit. I have a full de-cat 3"revolution system with a 4" exit.
I have looked on here and the internet but without much joy, failing that can anyone suggest an exhaust system that is reasonably quite for track days yet not two restrictive....A bung would be better tho!

People these days are all f*ckin soft. Whats wrong with, instead of sneakin about posting stupid notes, you go up to do the door and nicely say "Hi mate, you car is looking good these days, sounds great, but Its just a little bit on the noisy side for me first thing in the morning...is there anythin you can do to make it quieter sometimes?"
