I'm not letting this thread die Its too funny
Would explain why whiteline do sell well with their range of products for the Impreza.
Joking aside, if it was good from factory, why is there a need to change it?
Handling is all about how(as you've stated) well balanced the car is, and the way it changes direction and tackles cambers through corners. thats a good handling car. Its hilarious when people buy a sh*te handling car and then spend loads of money on suspension to make it handle better when at the end of the day it will probs end up still not as quick through the twisty's as a car that handles great standard

Last time I checked companies made handling mods for almost any car regardless of how well it handles as standard, most of them are sold to either make the owner feel he has a bigger *****, sorry I meant a better car or to make the car behave the way the owner wants it to, not always for the better but they prefer it. Ever wondered why alloy companies sell so many wheels when the standard ones are fine?....

at the end of the day "road going rally car" is just a phrase people use, sorry if your getting your wee knickers in a twist, cant think of many people that would enjoy driving a fully prep'd rally car to work every day.

They are commercial enterprises.
Good handling cars are those that are adjustable in terms of the introduction of oversteer, understeer and 4 wheel drifts, yet are benign in their responses up to, on, and beyond the limits of adhesion. That makes them great fun to drive at or over those limits, yet unlikely to bite you in the ****. The MX5 is a good RWD example, the Honda Integra Type R (DC2 in particular) is a good front wheel drive example.
There are many cars which are able to generate more lateral grip when cornering, but which are not as adjustable and benign in their responses at or beyond the limit of adhesion.
I suspect a current 911 on big tyres generates more lateral grip (and hence can corner faster) than a standard Cayman, but I believe that the Cayman will have the better handling.
Handling and lateral grip in steady state cornering are not, imo, related. I had a Mk2 escort on remoulds that was extremely adjustable and very safe with it - but had sod all grip.
You can have great handling cars with terrific grip, but you can have cars that have fantastic grip, but are lethal once you exceed those grip levels - its just that the levels are so high that they are hard to find on the public road, and hence the preception is that the cars handle well.

I can't think of many people who'd want to drive a fully prepped everyday either. Yet some seem to "think" they do drive such vehicles.
Although I'm sure some would appreciate a fully seam-welded and caged chassis over a bunch of spot welds holding the shell together, but thats another matter.
