I know that must of hurt BuRR, but what happened to the 3 yobs. And a lamp post is definately better than a tree, lucky you ?£4**"!
I've seen a few lamp posts folded and every one is far better off than when its a tree, the damn things dont want to move.
BTW keep up the good work, and "speedy" recovery.

Bloody Hell have I moved into the Muppet Forum? Went off to edit a post and now we're a page further on.
BuRR u don't need an invite, nor approval from me! Turn up if you have time, names on the window so even a DC could find me

I know I'll probably get shouted down for this, but I reckon a "Traffic Law" forum moderated by one of our traffic police members would be v. useful. Not as in "I did 45 in a 30 zone, how can I get off" but "what are you supposed to do when you encounter this situation?"
You know, stuff like is it legal to undertake someone if they are hogging the outside lane at 60mph on the motorway. That kind of stuff.
It's something we all ask from time to time and it would be great to have access to the real facts instead of our own opinions that are sometimes not quite right. The amount of times people ask stuff like that at work and no-one seems to know the proper answer and you can't find it in the highway code.
Anyone reckon it is a good idea?

I think that is a good idea, but as pointed out by logiclee, the Police guys are on here in to relax and enjoy themselves, just like the rest of us.
Unfortunately, we all know that there's an element that will give them a real slagging off at every opportunity.
Would recommend anyone to get on a demonstration drive with the Police - I went out with a Class I Driving Instructor in Herts, courtesy of RoSPA - it is an experience! Made me realise how crap and slow my driving was(not that he broke any limits, just planned ahead)!
Cheers
Tim

Simon and Stuart were discussing such a forum last year.
I think legal issue's for scoobynet and the implications for Stuarts job made it a non-starter.

I certainly dont mind helping out with queries occasionally! It's nice to be able to help out. But you are right in saying that the usual questions of "how do I get off speeding?" etc are a bit pointless but any sensible questions I for one have no problems with, and will do my best to answer. I am 'not' a limitless font of traffic law knowledge (only just got on to traffic and am waiting to be posted) but anything I cant answer immediately I can usually get an answer on quite quickly!

Well kind of......
But if you were speeding and we can prove it, then it dont matter if you admit it or not!! Apologising is a sensible move though if you know you have been caught red handed, because we still hold the power of discretion, and are much more likely to use it if someone holds their hands up rather than deny it and say that they were not doing anything wrong!! (will still depend on the individual circumstances of each case though.)

On a slightly different tangent, Belgium is now considering throwing fines up to £ 60.000 at motorists doing more than 30 MPH over the limit ... ![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
Of course, the whole discussion is about speed, and not appropriate speed, paying attention, driving according to conditions, proper driver education, thinking a few seconds ahead of time, etc .. surprise heh ?![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
PS welcome to the BBS Danbo BTW

The trouble with you guys coming out of the closet on line is that everyone is now gonna keep asking you law related questions like:
"If someone opens their door and dents your car in Tescos car park and then just walks off, what are your rights? At the end of the day it is your word against theirs and if they don't care then there doesn't seem much you can do? Some people might be tempted to resort to violence (unless it is a woman of course) or even the key down the side of the car, but then you are incriminating yourself?"
Or....."If I find someone breaking into my car and I catch him across the back of the head with a roundhouse where do I stand legally?......and what if I've got steel toe caps on at the time?"

True pierre, but I dont have to answer the stupid questions! I dont mind helping out with sensible ones though. And i get asked questions like that whereever i go as most of my mates are not in the job so it wont make much difference to me!

I've recently become acquainted with a local Traffic Officer. In fact, he is an Accident Investigator.
No only a very nice policeman, but a very nice man full stop.
He appears to be one of the older brigade in that he knows that speeding per se is not dangerous, only if the conditions are inappropriate.
I've not got a problem with people speeding as long as it is safe. BUT people who speed AND are unsafe should have the book thrown at them and that includes people who flash a warrant card to a Traffic Officer (seen this done but not the guy above).
By all means use discretion but it has to be fair and not only fair but seen to be fair.
Just my 2p.

So? whats the point of nicking someone for doing 37mph in a 30mph limit then??
Hiding in a lay-by, on a hill (pointing your gun UP the hill!!), at 12 noon on a dry sunny day - getting points for nabbing mums and dads going about there business??????
THEN, when the chips are down, and the going gets tough - when that same hill is used as a racetrack on Friday evenings - you are there nabbing the real scum arent you??? ARE YOU BOLLOX!!! you are in the safe warm station sorting through how Mrs. brown and her toddler were doing 37mph down a very steep hil ..... and how good you will look as you make her day with a speeding ticket!!!
The police, via actions like this, have alienated the very people whose support they NEED!!
Rant over - when will they learn???
Sorry for hi-jacking thread - Pete

I got pulled over in my old car, the copper asked if there was any reason for doing 160kmh in a 80 kmh zone.
I said 'Not really'
He said 'The only way you Idiots will get out of a huge fine, is if one of you have a pilot's licence'
I said 'Why ?'
He said 'Cause you'z were flying'
So my mate said 'Here you go, I work for Atalia Airlines. Have done for 6 years.
He was dumb founded, he told us he used that line for 15 years as a Police Officer and never lost.
We got off the ticket![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
