Cheers buddy It's changed a little recently as we've decorated, moved the TV to another wall and added a new AV unit and some kit Just awaiting some new surround speakers to finish it off and I'll post some new shots

Bought a Viera TH42PX80B (it needs to be widescreen to get the model code on it.) from JLP, hopefully on a price match from Sound and Vision (thks !) and under budget......... until Mrs Dunk wanted an oak cabinet to go with it..........all installed with minutes to spare before the Grand National.

From a different perspective but equally important have you considered what a 42" TV would look like in place?
I measured the outer dimensions of a 37" LCD in a shop a couple of years back then did a cardboard cut-out of equal size and stood it on my base cabinet.
I was most surprised to find how it dominated my lounge. I ended up saving money and buying a 32".
Most will say big-is-best but from a designers point of view most 42" I have seen at friends houses look horrible and appear too close where ever you end up sitting due to skinny modern lounges.

If your room is big enough go for it!
My bedroom is 10ft x 8ft and i sometimes wish i'd gone for a 50" over my 42"

We moved from a 32" Sony CRT to this and my Dad took our old one. Now when I go to his house I can't get over how tiny the 32 looks, and we occasionally contemplate a 60" or 65" Thankfully we live in an old house with quite large rooms, so the size doesn't seem quite so vulgar. I've made a wooden surround to integrate it with the furnishings and added hidden lighting to make it a feature too. We also got the free 5yr Pana warranty, but thankfully I have no idea how good it is when used, and hope never to.
i have a pana 42" px7 plasma, very very good and hooked up to my onkyo sr605 it is superb

I'd have spent the extra and got the TH-42PZ85B personally. Full 1080p, much better contrast and colour gamut, more connectivity. Worth the extra IMHO, but hey, enjoy your new TV

I've been looking at the 42PZ85B, almost bought a 42PZ70B a couple of weeks back but they were out of stock awaiting the new arrivals. Just waiting to see what price the 42PZ80B comes in at and then I will make my mind up.

I'm going for the 37 or 42PX80 as its pointless getting Full 1080 HD on anything below 50" so you dont get much extra for your money when buying the PZ unless you prefer the looks of it.

John Lewis is the best place to buy a TV as the warranty is legendary and they will replace things without much hassle, even stuck pixels, much better than the "manufacturer" Panny waranty that people get.

They will also pricematch any UK shop, and I'm currently waiting for them to call me back with a PM with Sound & Vision in Bolton for £635 on the 37 and £719 on the 42.

I decided the PZ wasn't worth a 40% increase over the PX (£712 v's >£1k), I bought from JLP at £899 on Sat, letter rec'd today honouring the Sound and Vision price match at £719 and refund for the diff.
Thks for the advice and particulary the Sound and Vision info !

My cable company aren't going to be sending out Euro 08 in HD so I have no reason to upgrade my telly this year.

Don't really understand why full-HD is apparently 'only worthwhile' above a certain screen size? Don't all full HD screens have the same number of pixels? SO a 32" or a 42" would look equally sharp? TV cupboard is only 100cm wide, so this will matter when I finally get permission...
