MY08 STI accident.

I seriously hope Subaru ignore most of the comments on here as most of it is crap!
If people genuinely dislike the new car, then they should write some constructive criticism in a well informed manner and then maybe their comments might be addressed.
Childish, spiteful, remarks say far more about you than they do about the car!
Personally, I think the new STI looks great and drives even better. Definitely a step in the right direction for Subaru!

I saw one last week, equally I thought it looked OK too.
Very nice inside, and a good step forward.
I don't have one, nor have I ordered one either.
Just happened to be at the garage getting a fault fixed and there it was gleaming in the showroom.

Yes, I do own one
Perhaps you would like to tell us what you think the new Scooby should have been? (I'm not having a go here, I would really like to know!)
IMO, the new Scooby should be a rally winning legend - whatever shape that takes - that's what the Impreza has always been about! To win in the WRC these days, you really need a short wheelbase, wide track, hatch or coupé. It seems that a hatch fits in with Subaru's model line-up plans best, so that's what the new car is - now it just needs to go out and win some WRC crowns!

I saw the new STi while mine was in for its service the other day, and to be fair it looks much much nicer in the flesh. Its actually a really nice car, and the only real thing that lets the whole thing down are those rear lights.
The older shape looked awful with them, however it was already an accepted shape so it didnt have such an effect. Releasing a completely new shape, with them was a bad move because its wrecked the good work they have put in with the rest of the car. If only they could have them like this:
It makes the car soo much more acceptable, and im sure it would open the market up even wider for all models (not just the niche STi market)

As Americe has the Saloon (i believe???) then that's a starting point. If it does exist then why can't we have one? The rear lights are wrong - Lexus style light should stay on Lexus's and the millions of Saxo's that have seemed to have aquired them (The one's on the white one seem ok). I'm just picking at details here.....
The whole car just looks too mainstream - a little understated if you like. Yes the STi looks quite hard - but not hard enough. Think what Mitsubishi have done with the Evo over the years - it is a completly different kettle of fish from the Lancer it spawned from to the point many people wouldn't believe they were essentially thew same car!!! Subaru maybe should of made the STi more special. On the other hand, look at the new Lancer - quite tasty looking even not when it's Evo'd. If the Std impreza was more special/individual to start with then i guess we wouldn't be having this conversation . Maybe the WRX should be what the STi is now and the STi should be Bonkers

Unbelievable Someone comes on to give information regarding a thread and receives an infraction & a load of abuse.
You would have thought members of the forum would be grateful for the information, not the best way to build relationships with Subaru UK

If you think any previous Impreza's are any better looking then you are sadly misguided! I've owned every shape of Impreza and IMO this is the best looking one yet - I'm not saying its in any way pretty, just the best of a bad bunch! But we don't buy Impreza's for how they look, but how they drive and the new STI really moves the game on!
I agree the Evo X looks great, although not as good as the original concept did, but its really not a practical car and the running costs are just silly! Its also not been designed to take part in the WRC.
At the end of the day, you also have to consider that Subaru aren't out there to make niche cars to satisfy a hand full of enthusiasts, if they want to grow as a company then they have to go more mainstream! Mitsubishi are already mainstream and already have a hatch in the line-up, so they are in a much stronger position to make a niche car!

I agree with pretty much everything your are saying, I actually like the new Impreza ('cept the rear lights) but personally I think such a quantum shift in design should come with a new name.. it's essentially a totally different concept for a car. Usually when cars evolve (with the same name) they keep their basic conceptual format.
They could have then buried the Impreza name and gone forward with this new car without it's current disapproving 'baggage'. Alternatively they could have left the 4 door saloon with the Impreza moniker, and just added the hatch to the lineup (albeit with a new name).
Or even less dramatic.. even with the current strategy, why not release the saloon to European markets too, and give it the STI treatment as well!?

Ford did exactly the same with the transition from MkII to MkIII Escort at the same time as changing from a saloon to a hatch and the Escort name remained in rallying well into the 90's. Sure, some people will always say the Escort died after the MkII, but can you really say that the Escort Cosworth wasn't an Escort because it wasn't a saloon?

Gonna get slated for this probably and kinda just thinking via text but imho it's like Ford going from Escort to Focus, it was so different they changed the name even though it was basically a replacement for the Escort. Couldn't they have done the same with the Impreza, although it would have meant the death of the Impreza I suppose. Then again I don't know HOW different the Focus was to the Escort (new chassis etc.) or how different the new Subaru is apart from shape, as I guess that has had a major part in these name changes.
But what's in a name anyway...

As posted in another thread ... I think most folks on here would have been happier if the Impreza looked like this. Seeing as this thread has the attention of "Subaru UK Ltd" it's worth a repost.
