thats how I was when I added all the figures together!
Asian weddings tend to be elaborate and there are so many rituals to follow which all cost money! and on top you have to invite everyone that remotely knows you!
I didn't feel too bad when I heard some long distant cousin of mine spent something along 35k just on food on over 500 guests!!!

8K and my dad, about 18 months ago.
80 Guests for day do, 140 for the evening.
I think this includes the honeymoon.
Alot of money for 1 day, I would never do it again.

Never .... ever ... ever.
You could get a nice kitchen for the money you maniacs spend.
Get her a nice ring & tell her one ... maybe one day you'll marry her & when your team win the league take her to some registry office & get it over & done with

£15k about 8 years ago - decided to get married on a monday, got married on the friday and was in NY on honeymoon by the sat. Had about 10 "guests" at the registry office then back to mine for sandwhiches
Cash went on rings and the holiday.....worth every penny and far better than feeding a bunch of mates!

Tiggs,
I bet you <craig david voice on> "Chilled on Sunday" <craig david voice off>
Our Wedding in 2004 cost approx. £20k for civil ceremony, hire of venue and suites for VIP guests + honeymoon in Barcelona and 2 weeks in Maldives!
Great day though and fantastic honeymoon which we are re-visiting next year for our 5th anniversary.

Jesus, looking through this post is depressing....IVe been with the missus for 7 yrs now and although we'd like to get married at some point (I talked her into a long engagement) its just silly prices.
Being a bit selfish here, but rather than save for how ever long it takes to cover the costs and be skint in the process, Id rather be using that money to takle her on a couple of holidays a year with the daughter etc.....oh yeah, and run the scoob!

The main costs are the hiring of the reception venue and the food (multiplied by number of guests).
You can make many savings on all the other aspects.
