we were luckily enough to be in this position 2 times in last 7 years, both times 90% of it went straight into the house. The benefit is I can easily sleep at night with my repayments being relatively low for an expensive house. Or put another way, more disposable income to pay for all the bloody indirect taxes!

this is kind of my field:

very commonplace people downsizing/selling up and wanting to take social rented properties....... and often buy them eventually.

means no stock left in the future for those who need it.

plenty of people pretend money vanishes when they get a tenancy- the reality is if you have more than £3000 in the bank, yr paying full rent and council tax.

and rightly so.

I think why people moan is that 75% to 80% of all social tnts in the UK do not pay any rent- its all benefit (people just can't be arsed working IMO) so those that do have to pay rent begrudge it.

anyway- they can pull what scams they want- benefits will catch up and you do have to evidence where that cash went. the legal housing publications are full of people going to prison etc for benefit fraud.

It'd have to be movd to somewhere allowing them to stay in it. The site it's on now doesn't, it's for holidays.

So technically it could be classed as an income too?

How can an empty caravan waiting for them to visit be classed as an income?

The have to sell up because theses sites charge an annual site fee whether or not you use the caravan or not.

because whether you choose to rent it out or not, its seen as income...... it yr choice not to rent it out.

ditto you keep yr owner occupied house and take a tenancy.

do nothing with it

don't rent it

You COULD have. Its academic, if you don't get yr **** together after 12 mths finanically- yr just billed full.

I deal with dozens of people who sell hse, buy a static, think they'll retire- realise they are crap, expensive, poor facilities and have to be off site for one month out of 12 for c.tax rules.

then they all plead poor tale and want a rented property.

because at 70/80 yrs of age living in a static makes sense

we're also missing the point here that caravan owners are a weird breed indeed.

If there's no income coming from it how on earth can that make a difference!!

Certain sites don't allow you to rent your static anyway from what I understand and so the possibility to earn rental income could possibly be zero.

If you can't do that due to site rules then what?

Of course if people do then it's income, if they don't it's not.

Normal people don't buy caravans, Dave.

These people have probably never had to work for a living so have no concept of the value of a £100k. I see £100k as 4 years of solid graft so would treat it with much more respect.

bob on k.o.t.

£100k is well over 4 years wages for me, and i would be very careful with the whole lot of it.

100K tax free so realistically 125-150k if you had to earn and pay tax on it!

Funny the arrogance of some who belittle this amount of money, with the average wage at 25k p.a it is still a reasonable sum to most - used wisely of course.

Life changing again depends on your life and how you use it.

paul, to quote wacko jacko... thats just ignorance

in somewhere like scunny or indeed rural lincs, £25k is over the average. for the job i do im on 30-40% more than most other warehouses/men round here. comes at a price, but £25k is a natioanl average, taking into account the obscene wages from inner city businessmen etc. or at least that my understanding. you go hapouring £25k to "mr average round here" and youll get stoned to death

It's morally wrong. Which makes it wrong.

Agreed but whre do you start

I supppose some might scoff at what you earn, does that make you a bad person for earning that amount, no! - i think it says a lot more about the person looking down their nose TBH.

for example 100k would pay off the remainder of our mortgage and leave us 10-13k and our mock tudor jelly mould of a house that is a shrine to all things Ikea would be ours!

Life changing, well i suppose on what 'is' life changing to you and yours , for us it is likely Jenny would work part time or give up work to look after the kids instead of us both working full time to pay the bills incl 700.00 nursery fees per month and and anther 100.00 for after school club for the elder child so just 800.00 in childcare alone each month.

It would be better quality of life we would both much rather Jen looked after the kids instead of having to put this out, not just financially but as a parent it would make her a lot happier as she would see so much more of the kids.

It would be easy for her to just give up work and live off of the state but that is just not how we where brought up and it is just not right - not for us.

Just an example.

Paul, you need to keep it in context with the original post. It's not what 100K is worth to anybody else but the stupid pair that won it and spent it.

Their life on benefits sadly was far better and the win threw their comfort zone in to disarray after the initial spending euphoria.

The problem nowadays is all about expectations - people on normal pay (20-30k lets say) seem to want the luxuries associated with a higher income.....ripple effect and those on £50k want what the Beckhams have!

You only have to walk round Currys and look at the number of folks buying £2k TV's.......assuming the national average who on earth blows 10% of their pay on a telly! Same with cars, holidays, etc, etc.

People just seem to want a whole lot more and almost feel hard done by if they dont have a flat screen and 14 days in the Maldives every year.

In theory a low income family would see £100k as many years of improved lifestyle....unfortunately, nowadays, it just gives them 12 months of what they THINK they should have and then its all gone.

We need to give kids in school some sort of table of values when they leave so they can work out what they can afford (like the X months pay on a ring thing).....something like, don't spend more than 35% of your gross pay on a car, 3% on a TV, 1% on a watch...the list goes on.

A couple of freeloading, spongers, who are now probably getting paid by the media for their story

Personally I hope they starve

This country is falling apart because of these parasites that we all pay for from our hard earned cash

Working the old disability scam like thousands of others, these people have no pride and no right to complain They have just had some great luck winning a nice sum of money, have wasted it and are now doing what they do best.... asking for handouts

They got the money and thought, great it's all ours and went for it, well I say they should have had to pay it to the government as a contibution to the amount they have sucked out in their worthless, feeble lives
Let's be honest the money they used to enter what ever it was, wasn't their money, it was "our" money!! So it was not theirs to keep.

Pathetic, feeble, self-pitying, selfish, bottom feeders who should be sent to a Siberian labour camp until they shrivell up and die, allowing us to look after those people in our society who genuinely need help to survive

Oh and to all you "do-gooders" who say they are entitled... p**s off... because it is you who are perpetuating this parasitic phenomenon by fighting their corner

FWIW when Incapacity Benefit is replaced later this year, it's people like this who should feel the bite. Having dodgy hip doesn't stop you using a keyboard, thereofre earning a living, and the new system works on the basis of what some is acapable of, not what they can't do. Whether or not they're willing is another matter, but loosing their main income may give them a shove.

Just wait for the sob stories hitting the nest come Autumn - Man looses benefits and made to get a job, despite slightly sore finger
