My ears maybe sensitive enough to detect types of engine misfire, but they are not very good at memorising torque wrench settings.

And is that piccy supposed to be broken? :

Look, there isn't much that I have done that is both stupid and car related.

Well, maybe except the time I threw up in one. Less said of the matter the better

Not something I did but hey ho. Way back in my college days I did a bit of pizza delivery in my old vw beetle and so did a couple of mates. One of them who worked on deliveries fancied himself as a bit handy with motors and had this clapped out escort that he'd done the brakes on and serviced etc., he'd also decided he was going to fit a spoiler on the back.

I randomly found an escort spoiler lying in the middle of the street somewhere in Addlestone, so I chucked it in the back of the beetle (a tight fit) and crusied on back to the shop to find my mate standing there looking bemused as to the mystery of where his spoiler was. Turned out he hadn't even tightened up the bolts at the base of the spoiler, have no idea how it stayed on at all to be honest, the bloody plonker!

I'm waiting for Swiss to see this thread

Years ago a mate of mine was fitting 6x9s to the rear shelf of his fiesta but he'd thrown the box away with the template for the hole. He thought this wouldn't be a problem because he could just draw around the speakers then cut the holes His face was a picture when he dropped the whole speaker through the hole in his parcel shelf

A couple of months ago I was helping v5 man fit an apexi AVCR to his old evo 6. We had real problems getting the wires & plugs through the bulkhead and I was worried about damaging the wiring like the evo owner mentioned earlier in this thread. We finished the job and he went to start the car to test it and it wouldn't turn over He then said that the battery was flat so I jumped in my car to jump start his, he then said why are my parking lights on? You don't have parking lights on an evo mate, it's the reflection from my headlights. He then connected the jump leads and every time there was a huge spark from the terminal, getting rather concerned now I went to investigate, he was trying to connect the jump leads the wrong way around Scary at the time but funny looking back at it.

Remembered another one

One weekend we decided to change the engine on an old sierra v6 I had, I was working nights at the time so I was organising getting the car transported to the garage, new engine delivered etc in the daytime when I was supposed to be sleeping. Saturday came and as soon as the workshop closed we wheeled my car in, it took us until about midnight to get the old engine out, we had a crate of beer & music so we were well away At about 3am I decided I'd take the high lift cam out of the old engine and fit it into the new engine, this is where it started going wrong

I turned the engine upside down to remove the pushrods but I'd forgotten that we hadn't drained the oil out of it I then fitted the cam into the new engine after much slithering around the workshop but I fitted it 180 degrees out We put the engine in and got it ready to fire up for 8pm on the Sunday evening having worked straight through but it wouldn't fire After 2 weeks of head scratching I realised that if I turned the distributor cap 180 degrees everything would be in-line again and it fired up

Bit of an update on my key fob loss. For the past 3 weeks I've been using the key to unlock and lock my doors with no alarm or immob working. Just happened to notice something black and square trapped under my boot and rear screen, yes it was the fob I had put on the roof 3 weeks ago! Couldn't believe it, still works too
