I actually did a similar thing Renny - my Evo has only 60 miles on the clock when I bought it. Saved about 6 grand off list too.
I doubt I'd get than kind of discount on an MY08 STi though!

I'd be happy with a dealer demo, most I've been to tend to respect the cars and warm them up properly. I'm sure the odd test pilot takes the biscuit and gives it a bit but nothing more than they are designed for. If the discount is right even better.

I think I have a pertinent question to throw in here:
Why hasn't anyone done a proper 15 page comparison of
the new Sti against the new Evo X???? Really only seen
blurbs here and there on autocrp. Isn't the evo X its
real competitor? Alas I'm glad that Performance Car
at least did the comparison what-so-ever.

I guess if you believe Subaru have toned down the STI then I suppose it naturally opens up the competition to other makes within the same price bracket, I still agree with you though and think the main alternative most people will think of is the Evo. If average joe punter goes to look at Audi's, VW's and other £25k-£30k sports saloons/hatches I suspect they will still be somewhat disappointed with the STI unless they've not been brainwashed into thinking soft touch plastics make the car drive faster and the rear lights of the new STI are a real show stopper
For me though the new Evo isn't pushing my buttons perhaps as the STI does yet has divided opinion on here, didn't want a saloon and I thought when I saw them at the Autosport show in January they looked just ok nothing to get my pulse racing, a bit Volvo-esq at the front. Plus my dream has been a WR Blue STI with gold wheels so unless they shove a boxer engine in the Evo, change the colour and wheels it was a non-starter anyhoo.

ballse,
"Evo did a JDM head to head"
I'm pretty sure is was more of a first drive thing. I'm talking about a proper test like performance car has just done, or evo actually did comparing the Sti to the
Lambo.

Hi all,
Someone asked how much the Bluetooth phone kit was, it was £187.
Pics of the install follow:
This is what i mean about being able to see the wires on top of the column.

230miles on the clock now and im luvin every extra mile i put on it!
The isofix kiddy seat base fits well on the back seat and actually has more room around it than in our new Civic.
At present im getting 23mpg as its running in, but i am expecting that figure to drop considerably once i have 600 - 800 miles on the clock.

I've just been from East Herts to North Yorkshire and back, a round trip of 500 miles. Ok it was mostly A1/M1/M6 cuising at 80-85mph, but nevertheless, I got 27mpg I'm shocked

Ahhh driving anywhere on the Isle of Man is like driving in heavy traffic on the main land... at best our main roads can be compared to your WORST B roads.
To put MPG into perspective for you the Suzuki swift sport (1.6) i have just got rid off was averaging 28mpg over 1000 miles of my normal spirited driving and my wifes new 2.2 diesel civic is getting 38mpg. But to shock you my e60 m5 was getting a whopping 10 -12mpg and would go 100 - 110miles before needing a new tank full... and that was driving fairly sensibly

Well i collected my beast at 3pm this afternoon and so far im really really impressed with it. This is my first Impreza, the new look won me over and tempted me away from a VW Golf Edition 30.
The ride is superb, quite firm but not solid like the Civic Type R and the engine is a peach when its on boost. My only slight moan would be that the steering is quite light but it does weight up well at speed.. speaking of speed so far i have only took her to 120 going up a hill as the brakes need bedding in (Oh and before you all kick off 120mph is legal here on the Isle of Man.) but i just had to see what the performance was going to be like. Hopefully ill be able to get out for another drive later as i really want to get some miles on it and get my confidence with it round the twisties.
I was impressed with the level of service that the main Subaru dealer gave me here on the Isle of Man - Rob at Barry Curran Motors went out of his way to insure a speedy delivery and most importantly managed to secure me a cancelled order which alledgedly was the last physical STi (within the main dealer network) in the uk... If i had wanted a different colour then i was looking at a 3 month wait at the very minimum.
Options fitted are the blue tooth phone kit and folding rear boot tray to stop my golden retriever destroying the carpet. The blue tooth is great apart from the wire for the microphone which is visable on top of the steering column.
I think ill have to get some Gold wheels but im going to wait for a bit and see how i get on as im not sure which ones will suit it best.

I have a golden retriever, 6 months old, and I didn't think the boot was big enough so I bought a GB270 wagon.

That bluetooth install is shocking!!!
I'm glad I went for a 3rd party sat-nav with built in bluetooth! No extra buttons and the mic has been mounted in the top corner of the windscreen with the wiring concealed behind the A-pillar trim - very neat install!
DG - I've also done a few cruising runs around 80mph on the motorway and the consumption is just staggering! Being used to 19/20mpg, I'm now averaging over 23mpg after 1400miles!

Getting around 24 MPG from mine but still in running in mode. Best so far on a run was 29MPG
As the others have said as it loosens up the MPG should improve.
Very happy with mine

My retriever George went in this morning as a test, he is 3 and a bit overweight at the moment as he only has 3 legs cause he got Osteosarcoma - cancer at xmas hopefully now his chemo is over we can start to loose someof the extra pounds he has added to his belly!
When he was sitting up his head was touching the tailgate glass and he manged to make him self look very stupid.. which isnt hard... But as he lies down in the boot and never stands up it will be fine for the small number of times he is going to be in there. Our civic is our main dog car as the boot on that is huge!
I would say if the impreza didnt have AWD there would be a much deeper boot and as a result it would be superb. But i bought with my eyes wide open and fully understood the boot wasnt huge. Main this is our pram fits.. other wise i couldnt have had the STi lol

Yeah i think your right, the civic has what they call a split level boot.. basically a false floor that you can easily remove which makes use of the fact that there is no get you home wheel.
Personally i was pleased to see a space saver wheel in the boot of the sti as i have been stuck twice with flats and just a crappy 12v pump and tyre weld cr@p. It really is a pain in the @rse having to take the wheel off and go to the garage with it.. we dont have mobile fitters here on the IOM!

Finally ordered mine today! After much debating, I finally went for WR Blue. (Which is the last colour I expected to go for!)
Pick it up next Saturday - can't wait!!!

Nice one you wont regret it.. Blue was my second choice but im glad i have it now. Having seen another board members blue with gold wheel combination im going to have to follow suit i think!!
So is the one you have ordered a Type UK car from a subaru main dealer? Its just i was told that mine was the last blue one within the main dealer network at the port? Even so mine took 10 days to reach me.
