I'd be more concerned about someone smoking weed than doing a few lines of ching or a couple of pills.
From my experience, the people I've known that smoked weed have all descended into a miserable existence, losing all ambition to do anything and being more concerned with just going home and chilling with a joint. I've seen it lead to pretty harsh depression and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I know there are plenty of people out there who do it and are OK, it just seems to make people a bit too laid back in my opinion.
On the other side though, I know and socialise with lots of people who do pills, coke and MDMA powder. They are far from the scummy, dropouts that the papers would have you believe all people who use drugs are. All this lot party hard, but work respectable/dream jobs and have no ill effects or addictions whatsoever. I can quite happily go out with this lot around town and they won't touch anything and then on other weekends, they will start on a Friday and not stop till Sunday evening fuelled by a mixture of coke and pills. There is no reliance on the drugs and there is certainly no motivation to become crack heads or try genuinely addictive drugs like heroin.

Sorry Les but I think you are wrong, more people get addicted to **** than drugs. People who start smoking are hooked after just a few. Yes a few people will get hooked on drugs but 99% of people will just take them at weekends and have fun. As for artificially boosting your character at a party??? I think you will find that is the last thing on peoples minds.
Scare mongering via the papers/news/old wives tales springs to mind when I read your comments.

I've yet to see any kind of drugs change any of my friends personalities at any party.

Couldn't agree more with that sentiment. Just saying that through the social group I have of about 30-40 regular acquaintances and friends, more than half of them do something and that in that particular group there have been no ill-effects.

I used to use coke and pills recreationly with friends a while ago, this very quickly turned into quite a bit more than at the weekends
With some of the circles I mixed in it was around all the time in quite large quantities so the temptation was worse. Really started messing me up.
Gave it up completley now though and really could not even think of doing it again.
I must say though it was MUCH MUCH harder to give up smoking

It's not "perfectly OK" as you only have to pick up a newspaper to read of some poor kid taken out by an E or a dodgy supply of Heroin.
It may be fair to comment that the risks are small, even very small, especially for the odd smoke.
My own experience is very limited. Years ago I lived in the States and had a lot of cannabis but that was pretty mild stuff. A flatmate took pity on some 18 year old girl and she stayed in the flat (sorry apartment!). She mainlined on heroin, spent her day shoplifting and nights partying or crashed out. She's dead, of course. I had a female soulmate in the US and her daughter shot herself in a drugs related incident.
Fortunately I am a natural coward and was frightened of taking anything more than a smoke.
My advice would be to tell your pal it's not worth the small risk. But he/she probably won't take any notice. dl

All drugs are bad - alcohol, dope, ****, whatever.
What gets me is the assumption that a single splif turns you immediatedly you into a terminal herioin adict.
This is perhaps a datft analogy, but David Beckham started playing football at school. Does that make all his school mates potentail England captains?
Of course not. It's your state of mind/talent, not the drug.
Richard.
PS Playing for England must be quite addictive![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
PPS Geroge Best is dead. Was he a herioin addict? No. His head was fcuked.

Show everyone the proof then. You make this sound like an everyday occurrence. Where are the stats to back this up, especially for (real) ecstasy? I pick up a newspaper every morning, and I read SWA about kids being taken out. It's rare, lets face it.

Most deaths are because of drinking to much water, Leah Betts died after drinking 14 pints of water in 90 mins. The drug did not kill her directly the water did.

Thats why I said it did not kill her directly. Like you say catch 22. But if she had just taken the drug and not the water she would still be alive.

It effects different people in different ways.
A few years ago some friends of mine started smoking cannabis. Completely changed them. They began getting serious mood swings, and it pretty much took over their lives. Eventually i didn't see them for about 6 months, as all they ever did was go to one guys house every evening and spend the night smoking.
When i did see them again, 3 of them had 'seen the light' and stopped. They said looking back it'd had been the most depressing few months of their life, but hadn't realised it at the time.
The other 2 friends who had started by having 'a quick joint' are now junkies. They moved on from cannabis to pills, then onto coke, and the last i heard they'd started doing heroin.
I once had a conversation with a guy who used to deal coke. He asked if i fancied some, and i declined his offer (I'm a very boring non-drinker, non-smoker, non-drug taker). He replied ''Don't blame ya mate. I don't touch it either, have seen too many people f**k their lives up because of it''.

I have taken Ecstasy, acid, speed cocaine and mushrooms in my past but don't really bother much now. Most of my friends still take cocaine alot now even when they are in the local pub on a monday night!! I think its a waste as its only fun when you are out for a good night and clubbing
Cocaine is more socially accepted now and its not that expensive plus it does not give the tiredness etc of wshat speed gives you the next day

My experience, not big, not clever, don't try this at home.
Used to drink when I was at school, well not literally, but once or twice a week, usually Tuesday night and Saturday night.
When I left school, I was a VERY occasional drinker. I had maybe 20 cans/pints in 2 years. Although I did get absoultey wasted on Southern Comfort a couple of times. *Spirits are bad*
I smoke, but have never been a fan of canabis, just don't like it, it doesn't like me. I've had the occasional joint though. Rather leave it than take it though.
When I was 17, had my first acid(LSD), enjoyed it. As with all things though, the more I took, the more a tolerance(?) I built up, to the point that I was taking 7 to just get a buzz.
Mushrooms, had a money bag full at a small rave once, freebie, wasn't overly impressed, different sort of buzz to acid, but both haloucegenics.
Also took speed a few times. Tried coke once, my god is that shyte over-rated, good job I did'nt pay for it.
Ecstacy - Took fooken **** loads of them, most likely excessively at times. Used to think nothing of having a pill, when out for a drink.
I took E regularly for about 4 years or so, worst experience, either of two.
1 - Had a few pints before a rave, dopped an acid, the dropped a pill in the queue. Couldn't stand up. Acid and E don't mix.
2- Getting back from a rave, and then projectile watery red vomit. Was worried until I realised the last thing I'd had was a cola ice-pop.
Haven't had anything for about 3 year now.
I don't think it's done me any harm. LONG term effects maybe. I think I'm a well rounded person, know how to string a sentence together![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
As has already been said, it really does depend on the person. People react differently to everything.

I think as you older you just grow out of it, plus it takes a week to recover were as when I was 20 I could go out all night and then go straight to work Saturday morning. Last time I did pills (2 years ago) it took me a week to recover and the midweek come down -you know the one
was V bad. I just can't do it anymore.

think i must be the only person on here thats never...
tried a cigarette/cigar/tobacco of any sort
tried any illegal drug of any sort
didnt try booze until i was gone 16 at college
but i was raised in a very militant/fearful household with a soft mum but a stern (and abusive) step father.
i have a few friends that occasionally smoke weed etc, and have been present when two have taken pills on a night out. admittedly i was once tempted to try 1/2 a pill but i bottled it and theoretically respect myself more so for resisting.

Does anyone have any mates who take illegal drugs here? Like Ectasy, Cocaine, MDMA.
I don't mean all the time but at parties.
There is a reason I ask this as I have a mate who does and they are saying its perfectly ok every now and then but I'm worried.
Whats peoples views on the above?
I'm not talking drug addicts here as they hold down a very respectable job.
Views?

Hi, every now and again is ok (my own opinion, before anyone slates it!) been there and done it all, but it can "very easily" turn from "every now" and then to a daily "fix". Haven't done anything for around 18 months and finally the craving for drug fueled sex, traffic cone theiving and weeing through letter boxes has left me, finally. ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I'm not sure i can stop the traffic cone thieving
