Does the car new get recorded as stolen/recovered? If so surely the value will be effected? Does the insurance take this into consideration?
Good news on the find though!!!!

Do you think it'll end up being recorded. What are the categories?

If there is no claim, then the car should not be recorded?

If there is no claim then there will be no notifications to the DVLA surely? Threfore, it shouldn't have to be re-registered or nothing like that

If the car has been reported to the insurance company as stolen then I think it will already be registered as stolen and now it's been found I think it will be recorded as stolen/recovered.

Just PM'd him. If it does go on the register it'll be a shame cos they only took it a short distance

It is classed as a stolen & recovered, but wouldn't be a Cat D.
The only thing i might suggest is seeing how much the repairs would be to do yourself, then see if you can withdraw the claim it it isn't too much.
(If the repairs will be £500, and you've gotta pay a £400xs anyway, it might be worth paying yourself and withdrawing the claim.... assuming they'll make sure it won't go on the register)
